      Make videos that feature successful black owned businesses and interview the owners. Show culture, show talents, educate us while also entertaining us about how diverse the continent is. Majority of Africans don't want to watch LGTBQ or similar western content. They can watch plenty of those in western channels. Show us different African food cuisines and restaurants, nature, rural areas and urban areas. Show plenty of Nigerian weddings. Spice it up and make it interesting and people will start watching again.

      Keep in mind that these nations were arbitrarily created and named during the Berlin convention 150 years ago. So, essentially your Yoruba ancestors were living in their tribal areas, which overlapped, way before they were crudely lumped together as Nigerians. Same story with all colonized land.

      @@BrittneyCaldwellyou might very well have had a Yoruba person in your family tree. What African Ancestry does is they give you a possible answer as to what tribe a single ancestor could have been, based on your haplogroup. So what they did was they looked at your DNA and then they looked for samples in their database with the same haplogroup.

    • @mlungisiwright
      @mlungisiwright 5 місяців тому +2

      @@BrittneyCaldwellNow, the only issue is many people from different tribes can belong to a single haplogroup. Also people from the same tribe can belong to different haplogroups. Then there is culture. Some tribes go by what your father is others by what your mother is. So while a test can show you that you match some women who identified as Yoruba, that your maternal haplogroup is shared with Yoruba women. What made or makes them Yoruba is their father being so.

Suppose 15 of them are Yoruba, but your mom's mom's mom's mom just happens to be Fulani. In that case maternal line test would miss out on your 94% Yoruba ancestry and point to Fulani. Living DNA gives ethnic group (Tribe) results also for a less lower price. If you've taken Ancestry, all you have to do is upload the DNA data to Living DNA for free. What I like most is that it gives you autosomal results so you get all the tribes... I'm Yoruba, Esan, Mende, and Akan, whereas African Ancestry only gives you one tribe, which for my maternal side is Balanta in Guinea-Bissau and my paternal side is Bissa is Burkeno Faso.

      I hate to tell you this, but those results are bogus. Mende doesn't cluster with Yoruba. Mende live all the way over in Sierra Leone and truth be told, they too, were a collection of tribes in that area who hunted slaves for the Sherbro tribe. Many of these tests are based on genetic clusters and some tribes cluster more with others. You had one ancestor who probably lived in a line of successors for thousands of years, prior to capture. So the DNA will not change, although the autosomal will, so your ancestor was not a hodgepodge of different tribes all over the African continent. If African ancestry narrowed it down to Balanta, then you are Balanta. I find it hard to believe that you are a hodgepodge of slave traders such as the Esan, Mende, Akan, and Yoruba. That's unbelievable and you get what you pay for.

    • @jus1nita
      @jus1nita Рік тому +12

      @@mizzobjectiveone3819 You do realize they did not separate slaves on the plantation by ethnic group… right? I do recall saying it was autosomal and unlike African Ancestry, Living DNA identifies an admixture of ethnic groups. Being a descendant of slaves, many are mixed with several ethnic groups. Not once did I say I was born in Africa for you to come to the conclusion that a Balanta, Mende, or Yoruba did not mix. If they were on that plantation, you best believe a Yoruba man wasn’t only having children with a Yoruba woman from his tribe. No, he was having children with whatever woman was available regardless of what ethnic group she was from and on and on for many generations. This is what makes descendants of slaves different from indigenous ethnic groups because of our admixture of multiple ethnic groups.

    Yes Britney, Lagos is predominantly a Yoruba land dominated by the Awori people, the Ijebu's later etc. They all originated from Ile ife in Osun state. Under the old Oyo empire before the Europeans arrived. Badagry which houses the Trans Atlantic slave trade history, point of No return and other relics is on the West end of Lagos sharing borders with Benin republic. The Benin's from Edo also occupied parts of Lagos Island at some point where they used as a camp and had an Oba-ship until the British came to bombard Lagos island in 1851. Today Lagos houses almost every tribe in Nigeria.

      @@2LETLIVE Please don't speak of what you do not understand. For a starter, find out who Olofin Ogunfunminire was, and who prince Ado was. Also try to find out the timeline of their lifetimes.
      And here is a teaser for you;
      Are the Edo royals not Yorubas? The Omonoba crown-line in Edo is the bloodline of Oranmiyan, an ile-ife prince who took the title of Oba-ship to Igodomigodo land, and was also the father of Oba Eweka.
      Not to even take you too far into how Lagos was founded by an Ife prince, Olofin Ogunfunminire (a grand son of Oduduwa) who lead some people (who later became known as Awori) from Ile-Ife. Do you know who lead the Edos to Lagos? He is a great-grand son of Oduduwa called prince Ado of Ile Ibinu (Binin). So whichever way you slice or dice it, Lagos has always been and will forever remain a Yoruba land.

    Your West African ancestry is very diverse. It means you have significant ancestry from different time periods, including the earlier arrivals.
    In the first half of the transatlantic slave trade, the slaves were primarily brought from the western coastline of West Africa. In the second half, they were primarily from the southern coastline of West Africa or lower.
    Many 'African Americans' today have ancestry primarily from the southern coastline, but you have a far more diverse mix. You likely have ancestors from different walks of life and it's also likely you had literate ancestors from your Senegambian and Malian heritage.

    The East Africa region has one of the most diverse Black genetic pool in the continent ranging from Niger-Congo Bantu , Nilotic, Nilo-Saharan, Nilo-Cushitic and Cushitic . Some Banyarwanda completed their DNA analysis and determined predominant Niger-Congo Bantu DNA previously associated with Banyarwanda hutu and variations of Nilotic/Nilo-Saharan/Nilo-Cushitic DNA previously associated with the Banyarwanda tutsi and similar to Nilotic/Nilo-Saharan variations found among the Oromo of Ethiopia and the Maasai of Kenya, Tanzania . Present day Banyarwanda are admixture of Niger-Congo Bantu and Nilotic/Nilo-Saharan DNA .
    The height variation among some Banyarwanda derived from Nilotic extraction . Sudanic Nilotics like the Sudanic Nuer, Luo and Dinka the tallest groups in the planet while Congo Bantu Pygmie the shortest . The continent is the most diverse genetically and Black America represent this spectrum of diversity because of complete admixture of multiple groups . Starting next year Black America with Dual citizen US/Rwanda ,US/Kenya, US/South Sudan, US/Uganda, US/Burundi(Ethiopia, DRC Congo, Somalia, Tanzania does not allow Dual but residency) will have visa free access to East Africa community(Somalia, Ethiopia pending) . 400 million+ business market especially real estate, tech, agri-business .

    I can explain 2:15. Way before slavery, the Bantu (bantu means people) left Cameroon to try a new place to live. They split up going East, south, or west.
    The ppl who went west aka “west bantu, “found land that had gold and oil in the soil. They named the land kingdom of Ndongo & was extremely rich, so portugal wanted the resources of the land, so they kidnapped the residents , dropped them off in both north & South America and Mexico. Then they unalived the rest of the people on the land and renamed the side with oil to Angola. (Angola is still a rich Portuguese country to this day, rich in oil) the other side is congo and it’s rich in gold, the gold goes to the France.
    This is why many ppl in (north, south and east Africa, as well as USA, brazil, Columbia, has Cameroon dna and then will list primarily Angola or Congo
    The Angolans and congolease were originally the only ppl Enslaved in usa but they were very United & started unaliving slave owners, (Google stono rebellion and Gullah Jack for more details) so they stopped enslaving ppl from that area all together & some sick guy had the idea to get girls from Nigeria (they heard they are more fertile)
    And make them have babies with various ppl to create more babies born in the USA, they figure they won’t have as much resistance as with the Congo and Angolans. (Google Angola penitentiary and Congo square in lousiana)
    This is why we all have Nigerian dna (we descend from the Nigerian babies) but we have more congolease culture in usa. Vs the ppl in the islands where they have Nigerian culture and dna,
    The babies we were desedant from never got a chance to learn Nigerian culture, as they were born to be enslaved and some were given to be raised by the congolease women slaves .
    Visit the Gullah or Gullah geechee ppl for a blend of Congo, Sierra Leone and angola culture that was created.

I don't know if you're Gullah/Geechee or not, but besides Louisiana Creole, South Carolina still has a community of Gullah which is one of two unique Black American populations. Actually, a case can be made that in a sense South Carolina was a very important factor in the creation of Hip Hop music. While there is this back & forth diaspora debate between the Black American/West Indian/Puerto Rican influence on the early formation of Hip Hop, the birth of South Carolinian James Brown was especially important concerning his influence on early Hip Hop music, mostly due to the use of his "break beats" and "funk drumming". While Black American music styles go way back even before this time (the 60's-70's), James Brown's assimilation into this 70's music forum helped expedite it's advancement into a worldwide phenomena that other forms of music branched off from. Also, "Say It Loud, I'm Black And I'm Proud" provided energy and uplifting to those who needed a psychological boost against WS, and it's dreary effects of draining away a healthy sense of self-esteem. Anyway, thanks for sharing that information. The video came out good.

    You do realize that dna in Africa is widely spread over thousands of years. Your parents and so on may have 100 different tribes in them over CENTURIES.
    Dont act so disappointed. Mine is from many different regions of Europe.
    No specific groups of people because they spread out so much.

    I have been curious for a while now, how come i have never come across or heard of those who trace their ancestry from east Africa, there is lots of evidence that slaves also were taken from east Africa, or is it that they all died and never reached their destination? could it be also as a result of those firms conducting the ancestry only focus in west and central Africa alone or their test sample is not fully representative of the whole of Africa?

    • @BrittneyCaldwell
      @BrittneyCaldwell  Рік тому +1

      I really believe this is true. But I also believe that there was such a small amount of them that actually made it to the coast of west Africa and survived the trans Atlantic slave trade!

      @@BrittneyCaldwell Thanks for your response, and i really enjoy your insights. my thoughts (after relooking at the issue differently) is that i think they left via the Indian ocean being evident by the presence of fort Jesus at the Kenyan coast used for keeping slave, imprisoned awaiting shipment outside Africa. it would have been a long journey via the sea to west Africa via sea unless they crossed through dense forest to west Africa.
      The Arab slavery is something that is never highlighted. they sold slaves to the colonial masters. Male slaves would work as field workers or guards at the harems. To ensure that they never reproduced in case they got intimate with their fellow female slaves, the men and boys were castrated and made eunuchs in a brutal operation by which the majority would lose their lives in the process. This in my opinion supports your thought of majority not making it alive
