What you guys were talking about at 13:30 is referenced as the "Fermi's Paradox"
"The Fermi paradox is the discrepancy between the lack of conclusive evidence of advanced extraterrestrial life and the apparently high likelihood of its existence. As a 2015 article put it, "If life is so easy, someone from somewhere must have come calling by now." "

I'd say it's much more likely that Tardigrades are from another planet over octopuses ;)

yeah, my problem with panspermia is that, it presupposes that only life can beget life. Which is a problem, because that implies that life has been there even before the quarks decided to become atoms.
But, we have literally been able to create building blocks of life in simulated environments. The reason why we don't see new life spontaneously spawn being that, life consumes the stuff needed to create life. Basically, an apple tree can't create more apple trees if people keep taking all the apples.
But my bottom line is. Could an alien lifeform have created life here? Yeah, maybe. But probably not. We have another explanation that has been proven to work. While panspermia, we don't even truly know if aliens exist. (that one dude saying they do, doesn't count. He literally hasn't said anything about the existence of aliens, just vague gestures that he might have some info about it.)

13:25 I don't think you understand how big the universe is. They're literally could be life on 50 million planets in the universe but the universe is so big that we could literally go the next 10,000 years without finding them. 😂 I know it's hard to think about skitten but It's really not crazy that we haven't found life on another planet yet. Hell our solar system is so astronomically ridiculously large that it's just hard to wrap our heads around. Like if I remember right you can literally put every planet into the solar system either with Jupiter or minus Jupiter in between the Earth and the Moon if you put them right next to each other.

So there’s this great sci-fi series that features creatures from earth that have evolved to be as intelligent as humans. The first one, “Children of Time,” features jumping spiders, but the sequel, “Children of Ruin,” has Octopodes. I bring it up because its a great series, but also your conversation about how Octopodes must think with less feelings relates to the book. The Octopodes in the book have their main brain called their crown, which directs the overall creature but is only really good at thinking in abstract and coming up with ideas, and their tentacle brains called their reach, which think in very concrete concepts and automatically try to execute whatever ideas the crown comes up with. An Octopus’s crown will be imagine what it would be like to go into space and it’s reach will start trying to build a spaceship. There’s no direct order from one to the other or anything, and the way the author imagines their society is fascinating. When the humans and the spiders first intercept the Octopodes’ radio communication, it comes in two parts: a painting abstractly expressing the speakers mood (similar to an octopus changing its color) from the crown and a string of complex math equations from the reach.

I'll be the one to say that if aliens were actually here, we'd all be on a leash because any species with the tech to get here in the first place would basically be gods to us.

The arguing scientists tidbit reminded me of one historical event when at one point in international medical sciense assembly(?), convention(?) two scientists got so heated during the arguement that they straight up started throwing hands at each other.

Dude, that debate was wild!!! Unfortunately, it wasn't about Octopodes, but its 1hour and some minutes of two scientists shouting at each other while everyone else just watched and pretended we even had the slightest clue what they were talking about. It was like watching those Worldstar videos but with shouting, passive-aggressive insults, character assassinations, peppered with some crazy chemistry, references to tweets, and the audience taking strays. Unfortunately, I don't know whether it's suitable content for a reaction but It's worth a watch just for the spectacle. Just imagine two knowledgeable people calling each other stupid to their faces.

The issue is that we don't have the means to know whether or not there is life elsewhere. We're only able to travel to Mars, now.
Satellite-pictures are nice, but they can't enter the atmospheres of planets like the gas-giants without burning-up in the atmosphere.
The closest thing we have is possible life being underneath the surface of Europa, Jupiter's icy-moon. Life being underneath the ice, where liquid-water is possible.

There are other Earth-like planets in the universe discovered and ocean planets, but due to atmosphere and other factors (mostly our lack of tech I think) we can’t actually know what’s on the surface or if there is life on these planets.

On the origin of life point about non-living > living and why haven't we found it on other planets, it's not just the super rare chance of it happening, but also not every planet is habitable (like earth). You gotta think of the time too since stuff is light years away life (potentially) may have come and gone. The main point is...Octopodes is definitely a fun word, thanks for the video.

The whole idea that life arrived from somewhere else in the universe to earth is the definition of pseudoscience 😆
(i.e. doing science with no actual scientific data/using a lack of evidence to fit hypotheses)
It’s likely that the building blocks needed for life were extraterrestrial, but that’s the cake ingredients rather than the cake.

8:51 Today I learned that I am an octopus. Neat.
Fun fact: not everyone has an internal dialogue. I am one of them. For me, going through life is just "Vibes" and because of that it's hard for me to make plans or control impulses, because they just kind of happened. I'm very good and in tune with my feelings and understand why I feel a certain way and why are you act to certain things, and I am very intimate other people. But it's difficult for me to prioritize and to verbalize what I'm saying. That's why it takes a long time for me to respond to things are why I speak too much, because I have to verbally overcompensate for my language difficulties - so that's probably because I'm autistic and not so much that I lack an internal dialogue.
