- Norris Packard vs Shiro. In my opinion, the best action scene from any of the series in the Gundam franchise. MS08th was one of the first Gundam anime I ever watched and it was this grittiness and realism that got me hooked!

Norris Packard is a true ace. He isn't piloting a ridiculously overpowered, fancy mobile suit. He takes advantage of the terrain and narrow FOV common in urban warfare, thinks outside of the box and effectively uses every tool and weapon of his mobile suit. Norris' use of the harpoon is a great display of his creative thinking. From stopping his fall down the building shaft over disabling Shiro's suit to retrieving his discarded heat saber... And finally: he prioritized his objective over everything, including his own life. Salutations to you, Norris Packard.

えぐすぎ
「怯えろ!竦め!!モビルスーツの性能を活かせぬまま死んでゆけ!」という台詞と共にシローを威圧するシーンが印象深いですね。

この場面の解説動画を視聴した上で拝見させて頂いたが・・・やはり終始ノリスのペースで戦闘が行われていた。
ガンタンクの狙撃を回避するために防音壁のある高速道路移動、相手に精神的なダメージを与えるための壁の押し返し+一喝、シロー機・カレン機・サンダース機の３機を相手に常に一対一に持ち込む地形を活かした戦術etc
最期はアイナの想い人であるシローを撃墜せず、自らを斬らせてケルゲレン脱出の障害となるガンタンクのみを排除するため行動・・・と、やっぱ強いよノリス大佐😢

everything from the dialogue, all the way down to the soundtrack in this scene were absolutely perfect.
The best part of the series is when Norris shows up in the gouf custom. A mobile suit is only as good as its pilot and he proved that.

This era of Gundam was amazing before the flight packs and Lazer spamming. Just a grind of machines in ground battle, and even having the Gundam itself didn't make you invincible, it also depended.on the pilot itself.

I think it's funny that you say this, because 08th MS Team is really the only series that fits this description. That's pretty much its identifying characteristic, and always has been. 0083 didn't really do this. 0080 didn't do this. MSG, Zeta, ZZ, none of them tackled ground combat particularly well. It IS something I wish they'd give us more of, but to make it sound like this was just the mainstay of their older work that eventually fell off is some serious revisionist history.
Maybe not the mainstay but IMO, one of the better original series and how they approached things

@@sei-un多分ですが、使い捨てなのに新しいヒートソードを補給してもらえなかったので仕方なく劣化してしまったヒートソードを鈍器として利用していた、ということなんでしょう。

For the first time I realized Norris had to sacrifice himself because now that he knows the enemy pilot is Aina's lover, and killing him would break Aina's heart. Yet the mission had to be done, sacrificing himself is the only option to complete the mission and leave a future for the lovers.
Its not because of that, he think shiro guy interesting. He try his best protecting the tank even tho he newbie. Norris already sent his signal way before he know shiro was aina lover
You just can't get this grit and rawness from CG models. Oh how I miss old school anime.

@@mechanomics2649 I’m currently watching unicorn for the first time. I’m going to episode 4 and so far the series sucks in every term. I hope it gets better but we’ll see. Having recently watched gundam 00 and being extremely annoyed by that character Saji crossroad and his equally annoying love interest, the first thing I noticed from unicorn is the same annoyance coming from Banagher Links, “I just want her to need me” or “people are gonna die because of war” crap. I wasn’t particularly big on Setsuna but at least he understood that he needed to fight and kill to get the world that he wanted. But these Saji crossroad and Banagher Links, all they do is whine and annoy and get people killed because they were trying to avoid fights.

The thing interesting about this fight is when people complain that gundam video games are too fast and "unrealistic" when you look at this ground combat it's not exactly slow or the machines look like they are hindered by gravity, it's more grounded but they still show great agility and much better mobility than in games like Gundam Battle Operation 2

Whether it´s the best depends on the metrics, the personal preferances ect., but i for my part think this one is definitely amonst the BEST mecha anime fights EVER.
Given how comparatively small scale it is, it´s extremely exciting, the back and forth in this fight is amazing, and the stakes deeply personal to the pilots.
グフは昭和のオジサンの乗り物
アムロやシャアの技能が異常なだけでシローが悪いわけでもない。ただ、ノリスは強かった。ランバ・ラルしかりグフ使いは凄いな
カスタムはまだガトリングシールド装備だから中距離もそこそこなんとかなるけど、それも残弾気にしながらだし、機動性とかはザクよりかなりいいものの、基本的に近接戦闘装備しかないグフ系乗る、または乗れる人って中遠距離を見切りとか操縦の腕でなんとかできる人だけだと思うから必然猛者だけになりそう

It's a close second to that opening battle out of Macross Plus, hard to top a macross missile massacre.
There's actually another scene I love in one of the Gundam series that is pretty awesome as well but for the love of me, I cant remember what series it is. I thought it was MS08th (which is where I came up with this alternative) but it wasnt!

Macross is superior.
That's like comparing Aerosmith to Slipknot; both are rock band but each delivers a completely different product.
Gundam has always been about the harsh depiction of war between entities with gray-area morals.
Macross is about love triangles and wearing your enemies down with the power of love and music.
What sells this fight isn't just the choreography, but also the camera angles, parallax, set, and even sound design. At one moment where the Gouf rushes the Ez8, you see the buildings in the foreground and background move *much* faster than you'd expect, showing just how much ground these two are covering in those few seconds. At the same time, they move *slow*, showing that they're huge, heavy machines. Then there's when Norris reels back in his sword with the electro chord and you hear the earth itself get shoveled into the sky. Like he just plowed a huge track of land just grabbing his sword. Then there's all the angles pointing up from street level and shots of building windows. These are huge, powerful machines and most of the mainline gundam animes forget this (SEED was a particularly bad offender from my memory)

His match was 3 mobile suits, a sonar expert, a few guntanks, and the fact that his main enemy pilot was the lover of his daughter-figure. Don't think I'd even call it a match because it seems like he sacrificed himself to save Aina the some heartache.

8th ms team is the best gundam series. The soundtracks are amazing as well. After watching all of gundam series starting in the 70s up until now, this series is the most realistic to obey the law of physics and the conservation of momentum and the conservation of mass.

You know it’s a badass scene when the Ez8 rips it’s arm off and uses it as a weapon even though it’s equipped with beam sabers.
