Yeah think of Haki like being a Saiyan from Dragon Ball; the more you fight, and the tougher your opponent, the more you are able to achieve growth in strength quicker.
By "never confirms that Linlin ate everyone" they really mean we never got it spelled out in big bold letters with a bunch of characters reacting to that information like it's big news or something; She absolutely ate everyone 100%, Mother Carmel had the soul soul fruit (she used it to put the fire "out" by just making all that fire turn into a talking soul piece) then LinLin right after she definitely ate everyone was shown with the same power and able to make trees and flowers talk and come to life. 100% confirmed by context, not everything in One Piece needs Oda to hold our hand and bold block letter full panel drop info on us. (most things for sure need it lol; but in this case it's understood what happened by context, like learning of Boa Hancocks childhood with the celestial dragons we can assume some pretty bad things absolutely happened that the story isn't going to spell out because it's bad enough to imagine it, they don't need to drive the point home that dark)
also for what its worth what this part of the arc is saying is that haki develops immensely under duress and that as helpful as training for it is, real adversity is what brings out someone's full potential and depths to their power. when you remember ace and luffy pulling out their conqueror's haki under crazy circumstances or usopp's need to channel all his power to make that long distance shot in dressrossa, we see people who had the potential to do it fulfilling the requirements in crazy moments of desperation, and going off what we've seen so far it's quite possible that Luffy, having finally understood his opponent's power and how to counter it, may be able to develop his observation under that duress; even before understanding his haki, he came to understand the power of/pulled off a rapid power increase against lucci, who was seemingly insurmountable and beat his ass immediately when they first went head to head. (Note that he has no interest in trying to go head to head with Big Mom right now but he has confidence in himself to be able to get around this one fight he's faced with.)
The thing is, for all of Luffy's selfishness and impulsivity, it always pays off in unexpected ways, and while I don't think the narrative is trying to say that the solution to everything is to just do whatever, his actions always end up being weirdly necessary in some way because they're what the story needs to be One Piece. And with the sole exception of Marineford (where Luffy honestly did not fuck around at all and was completely desperate and serious and did more than anyone could expect of him) that impulsivity has always paid off, because Luffy is kind of the moral and emotional core of this story and his convictions/insane crackhead logic are founded in this unshakeable belief in himself and other to do the impossible and hold out for each other, which the villains he's beaten just. do not have and its a big part of their downfalls. If One Piece were about machinations and careful plans and making hard calls, it'd be like House of Cards or Galactic Heroes or Early TV Seasons of Game of Thrones. But it's very much not that. And as you'll see by the end of this arc (and as I've said in prior comments) Oda kinda proves that the best laid plans fall apart, but that sometimes a crazy combination of love, honor, willpower, dumb luck, and a really strong desire to punch someone in the face can push back the seemingly invincible.
Anyway, have faith in Luffy! There's a reason that a bunch of really smart, cynical, cautious people know in their hearts that he's going to be the Pirate King!
(also frankly even if you argue luffy should have tried to run during the donut song sequence instead of fighting katakuri, he'd have been instantly caught anyway because a) the chefs would have tipped katakuri off, and b) as established, katakuri can see into the future. he's not the kind of opponent luffy could easily escape.)

Kais listen I get that Capone Bege is a good dad and husband and we love him for it but like he does absolutely endanger his family recklessly??? like honestly arguably in a way that's just as if not more questionable than any of Luffy's Greatest Moments of Madness? Not to say Luffy isn't prone to doing crazy shit but if Bege actually wanted his wife and kid to be safe he would never have planned an assassination of Big Mom. He'd have just stuck with her as a son in law instead of planning an extraordinarily difficult and risky "we'll stun her and then shoot her in the one or two seconds she lets her guard down based on a brief moment I saw a while back". It's arguably the most dangerous possible situation he could have put chiffon and pez in, success would have been based on insane dumb luck with even fewer allies than he originally had, and he's lucky chiffon supported him in it because if she wasn't explicitly singled out by big mom for abuse to the point that she was willing to turn on her bio family, things would be really difficult when she found out he was going to try and kill her mom.(not to mention that his plan was even less likely to work before he teamed up with the straw hats and germa)
he's a great character, one of my top 4 supernovas, and I love that he loves his wife and son and that he'll protect them with his life, but the complication of his character and what makes him interesting is that he manages to both balance his family and his morally kinda evil sometimes insane murder urges (his backstory literally says that his whole gimmick was just taking down the biggest target he could find by whatever backstabbing or outright assaults or crazy tactics necessary, and his whole motivation for taking down Big Mom-who is much, much more powerful-is just for the sake of toppling an emperor). He's an incredible dad who's an example of what family is supposed to be (in contrast to parental figures like Big Mom and Vinsmoke Judge) but he willingly endangers his family's lives-with his wife's support and consent-for his own ambition because he's a crazy person with the insane belief that he can pull it off and keep them safe at the same time.
The crux of Bege's character is his efforts to pull off this balancing act because normally when you're in the mob and you want to kill the boss, you either choose your avarice/crazy political gambles or the safety of your family. But Bege wants to have his cake and eat it too and he'll make it happen his way or die trying. His responsibility and recklessness aren't mutually exclusive, they're two seemingly contradictory sides of himself that he's able to pull together.
also bege and chiffon's dynamic intrigues me because, besides being lovely and great and everything I could have asked for, the implication seems to be that he married into big mom's family to undermine her operation and had an arranged marriage with chiffon (although we can't say for certain, it seems likely based on what we know about the charlotte family). So he managed to bond with big mom's daughter and find real love with her despite those circumstances, and his entire gang/family embraced chiffon as their lady boss too
