Like you said “totally unplanned” but, as usual you mastered the art of repositioning the vardo. As I’m watching this video, I’m amazed at your calm demeanor while you flip the vardo.
Wow, turning the Vardo around on the trailer. I hope it goes well! I like the solar panels. Wow, make 4 standards 28 inches high. Nice way to use the vise grips to spin the nuts off the bottom of the trailer. Thanks for setting up the camera to show us how that worked. That was great getting it all jacked up and putting the post under it. Wow. you did that really well! The deck is plenty strong! I like your idea to turn it around. It won't get so many bugs on it on the door and deck end like it would have before. Someone following it will get a great view! Thanks for this video Ken!
Hi Ken ! I think that you should reline the exhaust pipe so it would exit over the roof. Right now you inhale the external air that you warm up from the same place that you pushing out the exhaust. The exhaust pipe should not be near the intake.
Your editing was hilariously great with the sped up blocking toss in reverse! Great job of making that whole trailer reversal look easy, too. 😁 Wishing you all a fantastic weekend!
Hi Ken, I'm really glad you turned it around, it's much better with the door at the back. I would just make a pair of drop-down legs for the corners of the deck, that should carry the weight.
Loving the look with the door at the back of the trailer. This opens up a lot of additional possibilities, such as a rack on the trailer tongue for an extra propane tank or to hold an e-bike perhaps. Of course now you need to paint/stain the underside of the porch to match the walls so it doesn't look weird going down the road LOL
Reversing it does seem more traditional, no need to walk behind the horses to get in ;) Job well done!!! Sure would have been good to have 10 minutes of a helper to get those bolts out and back in. Can you adjust tongue weight as the interior is finished so you have the required 10%-15%? Corner jacks would be useful for leveling if one was to take the Vardo to campgrounds. We ran into that summer 2023, those "level" sites are only so level, heck of a lot of back and forth, a bit this side or that side to get level enough since we had no way to level the rented motorhome.
I am amazed this wasn't built like those shed structures you made where they had 4x4 skids on the bottom for delivery and moving. Also, those 3 center lights need to be visible while on the road, along with a license plate light and mounting area. I will suggest a rubber mount so it doesn't bend if you back into something. A fancier version might be to mount the plate and another set of lights on the bottom of the deck, which will always be up while traveling.
Great flip around. Think it’s good you’re not permanently mounting the solar panels. This makes them flexible to shift them for each camp location . You lucked out with warm dry day for this job.
Just made raising & lowering a Vardo a ton more interesting. Thought I'd be disappointed there wouldn't be any building done in this video but I was mistaken. I sold my 9 x 7 shed years ago to someone who used little more than the equipment you used to move it. Very informative stuff there. Thanks.
Hi Ken, really a good idea to change the orientation of the Vardo on the trailer. Now, for your safety and not to damage what you have built so well, just install 2 scissor jacks at the back under the door area, which will prevent it from tipping over if too much weight at the back. And I saw in one of the previous videos that you followed my advice for the control panel of the diesel heater, it will help you save fuel.
Reminds me of loading and uploading a shipping container I bought and transported to my property. Hard to judge tipping points exactly and how much blocking is needed where. Amazing job. You also showed potential buyers just how portable it really is.
Hi Ken. I've been watching you for several years. Thank you for all you share. I feel like this is the kind of channel where I can vent. I lost the love of my life yesterday morning. She had been getting infusions for melanoma for about a year and a half. She had an unexpected heart attack here at home. Neither I nor the paramedics could save her. I am so lost and distraught. Thank you for all you share.
LOL;;;I could just see that thing rolling down the driveway with you hollering stop stop;;;lol;;;I see ya have a little painting and modifieing to do before rroad ready;;;;looking forward to the next one;;
@ 4:55 If you want the solar panels on the roof, not permanent and easy to deploy just throw a line across the roof and pull the portal/flexible panels to the roof Easy Peasy ! a line tied on both ends of the panels would make them easy to adjust and tying both ends down with the lines would prevent any wind blowing them off the roof with the added advantage that with a line at each end you could semi-adjust the panels for the most solar gain ( boy am I feeling really smart right now LOL )
Definitely more traditional that way around. And the tow hitch will not be in the way getting in from the drivers side when hitched to the truck.😎😁. Awesome project.
Good Friday morning Ken .... I hope those bolt holes lined up for you🔩🔩🔩🔧 Well, at least you know what it takes to remove the Mobile Vardo Villa from the trailer👍🏻 When is the maiden full-blown camping trip gonna be? You need to go to a lake, and do a catch and cook!, and just relax🎣🐠🐟⚗ Is there a Vardo Club, or a Vardo meet-up/caravan? That would be amazing. You could go to Burning Man in Nevada's Black Rock Desert🤣 Take care Ken, Sandy, Lauren & Chad + the incomparable Kaiya🐕and the chicklets🐔✌🏻👣
It is interesting to see your plan develop. Of course you had already thought the various details of turning the Vardo around. You know how to plan ahead. . . . you might have to move the tail lights instead of just making the cutouts for the lights.
use a sheet of cheap Lauan Plywood to roll the jack around. I bought a off-road jack now and it works great...... but for years I just put down the lauan I also used 2x2' of lauan for under jack stands so they don't sink
Hmm, interesting. Would it not have been better for you to have done that in the begging when I suggested that you should build it with the door in the back? You chose to go against my suggestion and brushed it off. Enjoy the extra work. 😉 You still the man tho!
Oh, and I so appreciate the speed up time lapse and the editing or repetition. Makes your videos very enjoyable. We get to see how it was done, but quickly. Or you’re really really fast. 😆😆😆
Camper companies suggest solar on the ground. On the roof you can damage roof asking for leaks and have to bring a ladder in case. Then you have to falling off the ladder and getting hurt. If an elderly person buys this they will definitely have issues with solar on the roof.
I would put two “foldaway” end legs on the platform if it would allow. Would take away the pressure off the chain links. Before laying on the trailer tongue was good, but now is it just relying on the chains?
Mission accomplished! Looks a lot cleaner positioned that way. Now that you don't have the rack, Harbor Freight makes a "bed extender" that goes in the trailer hitch to support 10, 12, and 16 foot stock. I purchased one for the occasional use and it works real well. A roll up tonneau cover can keep things dry, out of sight, and snow out too. Thank you Ken. Have a great weekend!
@@kenskarpentry I have a full drum set in the back of my truck right now, and usually chainsaw, blower, whacker, and tools. You'd never know it, out of sight, out of mind, and dry. I like the roll up ones with inside mount because they give you more "flexibility" than the tri folds.
The paper or whatever you had it sitting on between the bottom of the floor and the trailer when you took it off it came down and then when you rolled it back under if it didn't go under like it was when you filled it
You didn’t show rebooting the house onto the trailer. I assume you did that but there is always the possibility of bouncing off the trailer while in transit.
Hello from sunny California Great idea to turn it around. When you raised the steps and patio up, it looked like it was not painted? Also, have you sold it? Boy, we are so nosey ! Ha ha We love your videos

For a old guy with bad knees your getting around great!😊
Haha thanks
Don't forget to re-drill the floor attachment bolts to keep from sliding off
Thanks just finished it
That looks great! I think I like that better. Glad it worked out.
Thanks 👍

Some people have to be so rude and negotiate, mate you did a great job and keep us informed well done ,can they do it beter I don't think so 😂
Thanks
The lever for the side support should be under the forward support.
Awesome Ken!!!! and all by yourself. Makes a much better Vardo.
Thanks I agree
Good job!!! 👏👏👏
Thank you! 😃
It actually looks good switched around... good idea there!

Even if they don't, a drill will fix that. They would if they're completely symmetric
No I’ll have to drill new ones

Did the holes for the bolts line up or do you have to drill new holes to bolt the Vardo to the trailer?
