I can see why people wouldn't like Spirit of Speed 1937, but I can't help but wonder if those cars handled just as poorly in real life. Of the entire Dreamcast library, Fire Pro Wrestling and Sonic Shuffle were 1A and 1B for playtime on my system. Sonic Shuffle mostly because my kids always wanted to play "Sonic card game."
I’ve got to come clean and admit I didn’t really know any of these games existed. Including Sonic Shuffle! But I do know and played Ducati World Racing Challenge. John, I gotta 100% agree with you on that pick. I thought it was sloppy, and the presentation just disappointed me! I never turned off a racing game quicker than that title. Woof lol.
Sonic Shuffle is only fun if you have three other friends to actually sit down and play with. Otherwise prepare for a cheating AI that will not let you win, even on easy mode.
Yes. I kept getting my ass kicked around and guess who I picked in Sonic Shuffle? Knuckles! Knuckles was my pick as Amy just keeps winning by stealing my Precious Stone and winning every mini games. I screamed "FUCK THIS GAME I'M OUT!" and took the Sonic Shuffle disc out and played Sonic Adventure 2 instead which is the better Sonic game I stick with.
Acclaim was just pure evil. Despite having some good games published by that company, it was pure evil. They made the same mistakes Atari has done during the early 1980s and they were shut down more than 2 decades after the Video Game Crash of 1983.
Good stuff John! In your opinion, is it worth starting to collect for dreamcast? My son and I have been playing many ps1 games, and the dreamcast counterparts just blows the ps1 versions out of the water. I know a lot of games have become very expensive.
I appreciate these worst games lists that you do just for the simple fact that it saves me time and money on games that aren’t worth either. Plus you always see best games lists so it’s refreshing to see something different.
Bad Management, Talking Smack about Competition, Bernie Stolar the moron etc. The Dreamcast was their last hope until Sony stomped them hard and Sega went out of the console market and went third party.
I think had the license not been lost, or even without the motorcycle license, Sega's 1997 Harley-Davidson Model 3 game would have been perfect on the DC with the Race Controller, even though it sadly has gotten a bit of a bad rap in the past despite it being a Crazy Taxi predecessor. Gah that motorcycle game you showed looks UGLY. I also about vomited seeing the LJN logo on the cover for a DREAMCAST game of all things. Good God.
A few of these seem like decent ideas but just didn't pull off the execution. The Dreamcast seemed like it was in a weird middle ground A lot. The power of the system allowed some really awesome creative games but some really bad misses too.
can anyone who bought games brand new back in the day tell me if the LJN games were full priced games or budget priced games. did they even have budget games for the dreamcast?
The 3D effect and the way the screen tilts on that Ducati game is absolutely mediocre. I didn't think Sonic Shuffle was *bad*, just one or two of the mini-games were reliant on luck rather than skill. It is still aa long way from being as fun as Mario Party, or indeed Crash Bash.
"LJN" on an Acclaim game years after the acquisition. "The Carbuncle ate itself" indeed. I didn't have terrible problems with Sonic Shuffle, but that's easy for me to say as a copy was included with my Dreamcast. It really shouldn't have had Sonic's name attached to it as that automatically set the expectations high.
Sonic Shuffle is bad? I don't know man but after 20 years not playing this game and trying to play it a few weeks ago I've found out that gameplay is still addictive as hell. It doesn't matter that this game is about Sonic, it's extremely fun game to play with friends for 4 players. Yeah and mini games in Sonic Shuffle is the best part of this game.
John, how is Soul Fighter not on this list? Bad camera, Very bad wandering camera.....it just won't sit still behind the hero! The game has a button dedicated to readjusting the camera back to it's hero on the fly. (That is how bad the camera wanders) hard to play during combat and the game is also pretty broken as well. Otherwise excellent list 👍!
@@johnhancockretro Oh ok. Makes sense. Isnt that one of those Windows CE games? I did like your list though. I just remember I had bought Soul Fighter back when it came out. And being immensely disappointed. I think the game wouldnt be too bad for a cheap budget title if it wasn't for the dang floating camera issue. Keep up the good work!
I have Spirit of Speed on the PC (Bigbox release) it is pretty good on it. Have it on the Dreamcast as well, it is more or less meeeh. Nice to play on a rainy sunday.
i don't really remember playing any bad dreamcast games.. one second thought i think there was a game called metropolis street racing that i played that was bad
Test Drive 6 is one of the only DC games I was disappointed with and felt was a waste of money. It's one of the blandest racing games I had ever played.
I haven’t played it since the Dreamcast was in its prime but I remember liking test drive 6. I still haven’t been able to find that cover of the song “cars” anywhere else lol.
There was also Death Crimson OX. A sequel to Death Crimson on Saturn. The crosshair always locks on the center, the sounds are nnoying from the enemies to the sound of you getting hit, and it lacks light gun support.
Death Crimson OX was actually pretty good! There was also Death Crimson 2 on DC, which was a weird combination of a gun-game and a survival horror?! Also, not even close to the worst game on the system.
I find the controls very uncomfortable with the cursor always being locked at the center making it hard to aim. Games like House of the Dead 2 and Silent Scope don't do that.
Spirit of Speed: I love vintage racing but this was just terrible. Next: 24hrs of LeMans... the gameplay wasn’t memorable but the track wasn’t to scale as it was shrunk for some reason.
I think Spirit of Speed 1937 could have been an interesting game, the concept of vintage racing is not bad and quite unique to the system, but the execution is just awful.
The Ring: Terror's Realm has all of these games beat. Got to love that 10 second music loop that never changes for half the game.
The music makes the game too creepy to play at night.

And a total of 4 vmus. The "privacy screen" fully realizes the concept that they are playing cards.
It baffles me how Sega did Jet Set Radio and didnt think to make a proper Sonic game cell-shaded
Welcome to the world of LJN Games.
Great vídeo!
Yep, 5 craptacular DC games.
Genesis, Saturn then Dreamcast. 3 great consoles. How in the world did Sega fail?
The 32x
Bad Management, Talking Smack about Competition, Bernie Stolar the moron etc. The Dreamcast was their last hope until Sony stomped them hard and Sega went out of the console market and went third party.
Its funny that you mention Sonic Shuffle because that game inspired the Mario Party franchise .
But Mario Party came out first and Shuffle is considered an inferior clone.
Good God.
I love these worst Game vids, Have a Great Christmas john a everyone. 🎄
Same to you
A few of these seem like decent ideas but just didn't pull off the execution. The Dreamcast seemed like it was in a weird middle ground A lot. The power of the system allowed some really awesome creative games but some really bad misses too.
I don't know, that could be said about virtually every system.
I’m not making popcorn for a ten minute video.
can anyone who bought games brand new back in the day tell me if the LJN games were full priced games or budget priced games. did they even have budget games for the dreamcast?
E.O.S (exhibition of speed) ..Soul Fighter... Sega 90 minutes football...Jeremy Mcgrath supercross..Snow Surfers...Bad to name only a few.
John. Have you put this series in a playlist yet? If not... you should!
I have, search on my channel ;), link in description too.
@@johnhancockretro good man.
LMAO I am not surprised Sonic Shuffle made it. I actually sort of liked it, but what really kills it is... those damn long loading times.
As a young adult Dreamcast collector, this video will serve me well.
every console has bad games, so it makes sense to showcase them, people need to know NOT to spend any money on these parasitic paperweights.
I could be wrong but I think spirit of speed was LJNs last video game.
Correct
And they went out with a diarrhea bang yo lol!🤣
John, how is Soul Fighter not on this list? Bad camera, Very bad wandering camera.....it just won't sit still behind the hero! The game has a button dedicated to readjusting the camera back to it's hero on the fly. (That is how bad the camera wanders) hard to play during combat and the game is also pretty broken as well.
Otherwise excellent list 👍!
Im well aware of the game. It was going to be one of the 5 but was having issues with the way I capture footage.
@@johnhancockretro
Oh ok.
Sonic Shuffle would be on XBox or GC a ok game. Do to the strong libary of the DC it deserves to be on the list.
It's - Cars by Gary Numan.
That Spec Ops games looks so dated that it almost doesn’t look any better than Goldeneye N64
LJN was like you haven’t seen how bad a Dreamcast game can be! Let us show you with our last swan song.
There was also Death Crimson OX.
A sequel to Death Crimson on Saturn. The crosshair always locks on the center, the sounds are nnoying from the enemies to the sound of you getting hit, and it lacks light gun support.
Death Crimson OX supports the light gun. I own it, and still play it from time to time.
I bought Spirit of Speed back in the day because I thought the idea sounded really intriguing. I didn't hate the game, but I sure was disappointed.
I think Spirit of Speed 1937 could have been an interesting game, the concept of vintage racing is not bad and quite unique to the system, but the execution is just awful.
Ive poured at least 100 hours into ducati as a kid. I loved that game lol
