Cycling is the best way to see a city! You get so much freedom of movement while still feeling as immersed as you would on foot!

Cycling in Glasgow seems alright, though not as good as in London these days and a far cry still from Copenhagen, any Dutch city or even Oslo & Berlin, BUT that said, the new infrastructure I'm seeing is very promising indeed. Three quick questions:
    1. Does the council have any intention of greatly increasing the number of streets designed in the way of 9:00-14:00 and 28:00-34:00? That is to say with these wide luxurious uni-directional cycle lanes on each side of the street (like in the Netherlands and Copenhagen)?
    2. How new/old are these street redesigns?
    3. Was some of the route still in construction or are those new roadworks that forced you to abandon the lane at around 10:00?

There is plans for a full network in Glasgow but it seems to be happening very slowly. The route the I’m on is the only one like that in Glasgow and is still under construction just now. From 6:10 to 8:00 they are putting in a two way cycle lane on the right side of the road. It feels like it’s taking about 6 years to complete this route and for me that’s very frustrating even though I don’t live in that part of the city. I usually go this way because I think the infrastructure is really good although junctions can be a bit tricky.

The other route that springs to mind goes east along London road and it was set up as part of the spaces for people funding that was released by sustrans during covid. This uses armadillos to segregate cyclists from traffic but there is zero protection at junctions. This is being resolved at the moment as the route goes from the city centre to the velodrome that’s going to be used for the UCI world championships in august this year. Glasgow announced bold plans for a city network at COP26 to be completed by 2031. They haven’t started any of it as far as I can tell.

Had to abandon at roadworks that were ongoing at the power station at around 10:00. No alternative was in place for those roadworks that lasted months. Glasgow is going in the right direction with infrastructure but it’s got a very very long way to go in my opinion.

@@glasgowcycles Hmm, like with many things in the UK it seems like a lack of funding is to blame, which is of course sad to hear :( Still, things are better than they used to be so I guess every little counts. Thanks for the detailed response!
