Rivian R1S Review: • THE TRUTH! Rivian R1S ...
I've been behind the wheel of my Launch Edition Rivian R1T for over a year now, and after driving it for 20,000+ miles, some things have changed since my initial review. So today, let's talk about what it's like owning and driving a Rivian R1T!

Excellent review - transparent, authentic, very well done. I’m 4 weeks and 800 miles into my R1T journey. Thanks for doing this.
Thank you!
TWENTY THOUSAND MILES?!?!?!?!?!?!?! IN ONE YEAR?!?!
I have as well, and mine is up to 25.2k! I drive my Rivvy everywhere! 😂
I have no idea how. That water in the door thing you have though…not great!
I have done 40,000 in one year. I own a 2017 mercedes benz c300
I'm at 8k in 3 months. So far no issues
@@jon4lakersFeel like the garden growing underneath his spare tire is worse
I like these reviews. Every Rivian R1T review I have looked at has been overall very positive. We are going to be test driving an R1T this weekend, and if we like it, we are going to order one shortly after.
Thanks for your time!
Good video that's why a lot of people nowadays by trucks a full-size pickup truck has room for at least five people on the inside and you never know when you're going to need a truck bed sometimes the SUV is not big enough
The reliability is more impressive than most of the AAA games releasing these days smh. I think trucks and SUV's are absolute units for active families.
Good one year review. My R1T is nothing short of AMAZING!
I feel like there’s a lot to like about this truck. My only design change would’ve been to make the frunk lid design more akin to the Ford Lightning as the load level more comfortable if you wish to slide things in.
We’re at over 10k miles in 6 months. Overall pretty great, but Rivian has replaced the A/C compressor & condenser which were bad from day 1. Next service appointment in 2 months to fix the clicky front 1/2 shafts.
I really hope Rivian keeps going and improves off these first cars. I love the brand and identify - My next car will be a SUV or a Truck which will be around the time the R2/3.
Model Y is great. An R2 will be interesting... cant wait.
Rivian is great and doing very well where I live which is a medium sized city in Michigan, there are at least 12 of them around here and I would say three of them are the R1S. People seem to love them, I might even get one. Once again, I live in Michigan and Ford Lightnings are rarer than Bugattis out here and I am dead serious. LOL
I've seen a few in Howell and Chelsea
Tnx for review. I'm in process of buying the Rivian SUV. This is really helpful Keep it up.
What spec are you going for?
Good for you! I'm still waiting for mine more than two years after. I got the sudden notification from the companya few months ago that they would not deliver to Louisiana.
Getting my R1S next month. Can't wait. Great to see the positive reviews for this company. Also loved that you mentioned the tesla partnership!
How is your R1S going?
@@darrylpage3404 It's been great. Had some panel gaps at delivery which they've fixed now. Still some wind noise, but we have another appointment in December to address that.
2022 R1T…phone charger works fine. When in motion whatever is charging tends to move around so just like at home if it’s not perfect on there it doesn’t charge. I think the idea was meant for being parked or at least keep a hand on it and it does work fine.
Just my observation over the last 3k miles or so.
Can you keep the rear view & side cameras ON while driving? like you can with Teslas, thanks!
Great job on the video, kudos! I'm about to trade-in my 2018 Tesla Model 3 & lease a R1T.
Cornelius Would Be Proud.🙌🏼
Hi Jon, great video as usual...thoughts on the R2?
How are the tires wearing? How has your DC fast charger experience been overall?
That's a great power performance. I'd love to have it. So Cool!
How’s the back seat for adults? How come you got the rivian over the lightning?
Great review, thank you
20k in a year damn! you have been driving!
Lots of love about this truck, for the life of me I don’t understand why they won’t support Apple CarPlay and android auto.
Oh man, I didn’t realize there is no Apple Car Play… I currently use that every time I get in my vehicle… I don’t know if I’m ready to not have it. I can’t decide if this is a deal breaker for me.. thoughts?
Was very interested to hear about the Driver+ system and whether it’s improved since you got the car. Disappointed it wasn’t even mentioned once in the video!
About time for me to replace my work Dodge Ram. Between the Cybertruck, Ford and Rivian, the Rivian would be my choice. I’d line to see some of the frills dropped in a lower price work truck.
Is this a Rivian review or a pool cleaning service?
Love the videos!
🙏
Jon your kids are so adorable!
Watching this on the Pixel Fold 🔥🔥🔥
Jealous.
Nice video Jon. What brand is your aftermarket phone charger? Are you happy with it? Does it look like it belongs? I thought I might be able to live with the stock in my R1S, but it’s time for a change. Thanks!
Got it from twraps
I thought these were super nice when they first came out but the price is out of my range. Then the new tacomas came out and are getting as high as 70k and I’m thinking this is the future of pricing. Maybe one day I’ll win one of these or get one as a gift lol😂
So if I lease a 2024 Rivian now it won’t work with Tesla chargers? Tx!
Nice video Jon!
Roughly £120k in my portfolio are in tech/TSLA stocks, can I get an advice on any other stocks that I can acquire to diversify my reserve across multiple markets while creating a comprehensive portfolio allocation that balances my concerns of risk aversion and returns that meet yearly inflation.
You need to hire a financial advisor to help you diversify your portfolio by including Mutual Funds, Etf's, the 11 GICS groups, inflation-indexed bonds, and stocks of companies with reliable cash flows rather than growth stocks, where prices were based on future prospective earnings.
@@leedavis3639 That's correct. At first, I wasn't too pleased with my gains compared to my previous performances, I was doing so poorly, I thought I needed to diversify into better assets, so I got in touch with an investment-advisor. That same year, I pulled a net gain of £550k, which is about 10 times more than I average on.
@@farehtinyilmaz851 My portfolio has been in the gutter for the entire year, so I started researching new ways to profit in the market, but everything I tried just seemed to miss the mark. Please let us know the name of your financial advisor
@@darrenphilip247 Having a counselor is essential for portfolio diversification. My advisor is "Trade with Ethan Grayson" who is easily searchable and has extensive knowledge of the financial markets.
@@farehtinyilmaz851 Thanks for this tip. His handle & website popped up on the first page immediately I searched Ethan’s name, I read through his resume and it seems pretty tight. So, I dropped a message & hopefully he replies soon.
Your seats look shiny. Is that wear or just leather conditioner?
Maybe just the camera. Seats look brand new.
Did you know the frunk cover snaps to the side automatically if you want deeper storage
Will it last 25yrs +like the old toyota shogun ice etc that's the test not whether it last a few thousand miles or a couple of yrs
I believe a average life of an EV will be similar to an ICE.
A lot of trepidation ordering my R1S based on internet reports of service experience but going to pull the trigger
I see you can fit the forward facing seats in there well, but what about rear facing seats?
I wood assume no issue.
I mean yeah they should fit fine, but how far do you need to scoot the front seats up to get them to fit? As a tall male, we can't put any rear facing car seats behind me.
I could buy one now (I ordered one two years ago) but I am still hesitant. No service center near my area. Rivian does not guarantee that a tech will come and deal with any issues. I am fearful that I will need to eat the cost to a service center far away even if under warranty.
I have had the same concern, since the nearest SC to me is 300 miles away. But, when I had an issue with rotating tires, they are sending a mobile unit to me to do it for only $60ish. I did pay for the NACS-CCS adapter, since I didn't buy the R1T from Rivian.
@michaelvaughan3929 I ultimately cancelled my order. So many uncertainties. I will try Scout pickup truck
I'd love one. But currently they're far out of my price market. Low income prob
I really want one but it's just too expensive. Heard they were coming out with a smaller cheaper truck.
While I appreciate the review, obviously this guy has a much, much larger budget than me to spend on this truck.
Looking out for UK release
you don't like the usb-C headlights? that's the only negative i ever hear from anybody talking about the rivian vehicles. the front end looks like an early 2000s apple product.
I totally agree. I got 20k on mine too
Lest see if the battery has to be replaced once it hits 100,000 for $20,000 or whatever the ridiculous price will be. Unless they have a lifetime battery warranty wich I doubt. It will be a throw away when the battery fails if there is no warranty left!
my Ford F-150 gas truck has a 600+ mile range, fill the tank in 7 minutes, hauls 14,000lbs and 3,000 lbs load in the bed. I use all those capacity. no electric can touch it. If you need a real truck to do real work, Rivian won't cut it.
people with blackberry said similar things when iPhones first came out
I reserved an R1T and a Cybertruck and the Rivian was built 1st. I love my R1T truck buy may sell it to purchase the Cybertruck when it goes into production later this year. It will all depend on revised MSRP’s and specifications.
My bolt has 63k miles and I’ve had it for 6 years. You don’t see me whoring myself out to UA-cam for clicks.
Dolla make ya halla
that big money johnnie!!!!
❤ my Rivian
No carplay/android auto is the only reason i will never get a rivian.
The kids are dolls man... wow.. don't know what to say later now. Treasure them!
“The phone as a key works great 80% of the time. 50% of the time, it doesn’t work well. “. 😂😂😂
He said 85% of the time and 15% of the time it doesn't work well. Are your ears okay?
See InsideEVs story from 12/26: "Rivian R1T Owner Says His Truck Has Been Out For Repairs For Eight Months for a damaged side camera"
I would love to get one, but not having Apple CarPlay is a non-starter.
Granted I have no idea about apple products, however to nix a vehicle as advanced as this b/c it lacks whatever carplay is seems silly. But ok!
@@ettorenamias Georgia is a 100% hands-free state when driving, so anything that doesn't provide a seamless phone experience is a negative.
Doesn’t like the front light design but buys it anyway
Here’s Why That Rivian R1T Repair Cost $42,000 After Just A Minor Fender-Bender
how is enhanced autopilot compared to the tesla? Tesla's enhanced autopilot is very good.
@0:54, yeah cool dude, we know you’re chilling, but how about taking off your shades so we can see your face.
No camera features mentioned once? Nice lol.
Seems a great car. But with no Android auto support, that kills it for me.
Two Rivians….thats gotta be expensive as can be.
I want one
I almost got mine in white just so I could name it GLaDOS
Not that I'm buying one but I'm at a point where if your car don't have apple car play or android auto then the car can cost 10k or 150k, I'm not buying it without both or one of those.
The main barriers between TSLA and all other EV makers were NAC and FSD.
RIVN has adopted NAC.
RIVN needs to license FSD from TSLA to overcome that last barrier.
RIVN has the desirable products just not FSD.
Well, as the owner of 2 Teslas, their autopilot leaves much to be desired. They will phantom brake on you for no reason. I did not trust using even basic adaptive cruise control in my Model Y when I had cars behind me on a road trip last week. The car changes lanes for no good reason and camps out in the left lane. Basic things Tesla just can’t get right. The phantom braking has only gotten worse in my nearly 5 years of owning this brand. Don’t be fooled.
I own 3 Teslas and use Autopilot everytime I drive them. I love it. I hardly need to touch the steering wheel all the way to work. I drove from Houston to LA recently, and Autopilot made the drive so much easier. Autopilot is clearly shown to be safer than human drivers and is getting better with every update. I would not buy an EV without that option and the Tesla charging network. I am considering a Rivian but will not buy one without Autopilot/FSD.
@@tonyp3693 What is your experience with phantom braking? Driving from Dallas to Denver, I had at least 7-8 episodes of sudden braking with nothing in front of me during my first day using FSD. I’ve done many road-trips in my Teslas, including from TX to Maine and to Idaho and back. I’ve always had at least one PB a day. But this latest road-trip was just awful using FSD. Plus, there is now no way to disable auto lane changes in FSD like there used to be. The car is stupid and just hates being in the right lane. It will move to the left and camp there. They’ve clearly made changes in the tech that are for the worse compared to a year or two ago.
I had PB's on occasions in past but not with the latest versions. I have 2023.7.20 right now.
The closest I have to PBs are rapid slow downs when the cars in the next lane drift too close to the lane makers next to me but, still, not that often.
Try pushing the right steering wheel button to the right then choose "minimal lane change" after activating Autopilot.
I use Apple CarPlay so much. From texting while I drive to Waze to music. Literally would not buy because of irritation about this. So stupid to not interface with everyone’s phone
You must be rich, 80k plus
One doesn't have to be rich to buy a truck.
He got that 800
Jons life is classic example of what is wrong with American car dependant Suburbia lifestyle
Unnecessarily large car, pool in backyard, waste of space and resources, using car for getting a loaf of bread etc
🤷♂️
Can’t blame the lifestyle until American zoning changes or alternatives come
Don't blame Jon for doing life right by earning his lifestyle. Sounds like you are pissed because you have not earned the same lifestyle.
Lol, so true. My sister used to drive to the gas station to get something. The gas station was four doors down!
The front lights and grill is absolutely atrocious looking
STOP CALLING PICKUP TRUCKS CARS!!!!!
Is either a car or a truck. Stop calling it a car. It’s kind of annoying.
Teslas are over rated and over priced
For a model X maybe, but $35,000 for a model 3 with incentives for what you get is a bargain
@@JohnPaulChoate this is compared to a model x. Price wise the interior in the rivan is miles better.
The model 3 is worth maybe 35k before any tax incentives. The interior reminds me of a cheap kia.

Third
Off topic, your kids are too stinkin' cute! My boys are 16 and 23.....not as cute now haha. Enjoy it while you can!
🙏🙏
EV’s suck! Gas and diesel trucks are the future. Can’t have everyone in the truck sitting at charging stations over and over on road trips. Nice video though!
I have a feeling it’s going to be a mix of all three.
