The time to sell is soon, because if Nintendo is smart next year they'll end 3DS in favor of Switch, because having multiple portable devices to compete with each other and mobile isn't going to work, and Nintendo is going to sink some serious development into Switch over 3DS (you can already see that now with games coming out next month for both). The two together likely will give you more than enough if you chose to convert totally to Switch, which as the year goes on will have the better high def games ON THE GO!!

If you want the blue new 3ds xl and live in America, you are out of luck and can't import because none of your games will work. If you live in Europe and want the red new 3ds xl, your out of luck. If a game comes out in japan like Bravely Default: Flying Fairy or previously exclusive to japan Dragon quest vii which came out in japan early 2013 but in NA late 2016, you couldn't play it. Region locking is a very big problem that applies to a lot of people.

Just get a switch, 100x better graphics, amazing new titles, dedicated online play, the console is just starting it's life time in 2017, that means it will be getting even better as time passes, 3ds is starting to die tbh 6 years later, the hardware can barely handle a 200p screen. With the switch you can play it on your tv or on the go. The list goes on.
3DS has dedicated online, the 3DS already has amazing titles. Everything else you said is based on the assumption that games that come to the Switch will be great, they very well might be. But one is a fact and one if a hope. Just because 3DS games are older doesn't mean they aren't worth getting anymore, they're new to the people that have yet to play them.

Now in 2019 I think both are a good choice but you should buy a Switch. That being said if you already own a 3Ds or 2Ds plus another console such as PlayStation or Xbox it's just not worth buying the switch. I'm not buying the switch because I own an xBox One S and a 2Ds. Plus I have a slightly older version of every game I'd buy on the switch, except I already own the games. Such as Mario Kart 7, Super Mario maker, Pokemon gen 4-7, Zelda Phantom hourglass. As you see I already own the slightly older version of the games. Just one thing that I thought I'd mention (if you think this is important, maybe pin?) The nintendo home consoles (from now, at least) will always have better hacking capabilities. The Wii was the last home console from nintendo with amazing hacking abilities. The New 3ds (2ds, and old 3ds too) are able to play emulators, stream to PC, stream FROM pc (to play pc games on your ds), there are so many things you can do with the homebrew community. No doubt, the community will find a way to stream from Switch to 3ds, that's how devoted these people are. The switch, though it is a hybrid, won't get this many hacks. How do I know? The Wii U. The only hacks on the Wii U were technically ORIGINAL WII hacks. The WII U homebrew came much later. Not to mention, you needed a game to get these types of hacks. =D
I got pretty pissed at Nintendo for the 3DS. I got a 3DS xl limited edition pokemon X&Y blue version and then months later, the new one comes out. I bought that and now the switch is coming out. I'm gonna sell all i have.

you should sell your 3DS after converting, it'll probably drop in value next year. I plan to sell mine, because I doubt they'll be able to keep riding that Pokemon wave next year, especially since I can play Switch in all the same places I play my 3DS, AND can put it on a large television while at home, so I have no need for a 3DS now.
I don't have a 3DS because my Lite did well until I lost it. Now I'm striving to get the best DS because if I'm going to spend that much money, might as well get the best handheld.
two of those are already confirmed for Switch though, so going forward, it's going to be a hard sell for staying with the dated lower resolution 3DS, I think Pokemon would seal the deal too for many

You should get the NEW Nintendo 3DS XL because it has improved 3D compared to the unfinished 3d on the original 3ds and original 3ds xl. And plus, I know for sure that you meant to say 2011, because that was when the very first 3ds ever made (the one you have) started to exist
I'm thinking of selling my 3ds xl (new model) for the switch.. what are your thoughts? The only game I have is animal crossing so I won't be losing much in regards to games I've bought.. +CourtB Considering Youn only have animal crossing I say go for it. Unless you planned on getting more 3DS exclusive games, the Switch is great although there's only about three games worth getting at the moment (Zelda, Snipperclips and Fast RMX, in terms of exclusives although Zelda is on Wii u).
I would definitely recommend 3DS. It has a bunch of great games such as Smash bros, Pokémon, 3D land, and more, along with backwards compatibility for the DS games and a free online service. I would hold off on the Switch at least until holiday 2017 just because it seems that it won't have a ton of games until then, and we will see if enough games use online services and if they're good enough for them to make us pay for then.

I have a 3ds 2. the 3ds gives me headaches because the low resolution and the tiny screen 3.i think the 3ds has some flops like Mario maker and the new Yoshi "port" and others, with are good but not more than good 4. splatoon Mario, Zelda, xc2, fe warriors, arms, Mario Kart 8 dlx and others
yeah, tiny is right, the XL was needed just to be able to read that ungodly small text! Remember, the XL version is the highest selling for a reason, and when put side-by-side, many choose the larger XL, and Switch is only 2 or 3 inches longer than a folded XL with the Joy Cons attached, so it's not like it's this massively large device people think it is.
Basically if you bought a N3DS xl now u could also purchase like 4 games to go with that right off the bat and still be cheaper than the NS whereas buying the NS on launch you have to buy a game on top costing you a further £50. It basically all comes down to what you can afford in the long run. I ain't made of money and I would be happy with either console but the sceptical in me is saying can I afford forking out £50 per game "nope" therefore the option for me getting myself the N3DS xl purely for the fact that for me it's more cost effective in the long term
I've had three 3DSes at this point: the one I got at launch, an XL, and a New 3DS that I got about a year ago with the swappable faceplates. I have over 70 cart games and 90 download games. I'm good with the 3DS at this point. I want the new hotness. I know buying a system at launch is not always wise but I really do have faith in it and it's promising a lot of experiences in just the first six months that sound appealing to me. I think it's definitely worth it by Holiday 2017 anyway. I would jump on board then if I were a more casual Nintendo fan.
Switch will no doubt have some cool experiences but yeah 3DS is a solid platform too so you can't really go wrong with either one, especially if you're in it for Nintendo specific games.
I bought the 3ds to play animal crossing, Mario kart, Pokémon and some other games. I lost my 3ds in 2014 and I got one in 2017. It's still a good hand held device.
as my birthday approached april 8th i was debating this same thing, ended up going with the 3ds xl since it has more games and i got a good deal for one. i still intend to get a switch but i love the 3ds xl and am happy with my decision
3DS because of the fact you can play DS games on it. And also Virtual Console. And also you can hack the 3DS and play GameCube, GameBoy Advance and N64 games on it. I'm keeping my Wii U and 3DS.

And gotta day I’m in love with it:) I’m collecting some really cool games like Stella Glow, Rune Factory 4, Animal Crossing New Leaf, Harvest Moon A New Beginning, and next I’m getting Pokémon Moon and I’m so excited to play that one🤗 I love the games for the Pokémon series on the 3ds and ds so I’m hoping to collect them soon.

If you want to play games that came out nearly a decade ago (3DS turns 7 in March), then go with the 3DS, if you want to play new games that are only a year old come March, and can possibly connect with mobile in the future, go with Switch. Nintendo's future is the Switch and mobile, they don't even mention their plans beyond 2018 for the 3DS, because they know next year should that next Pokemon installment actually come out, the 3DS will be dead, *dead* dead.
I think getting a Switch on launch isn't worth it since it lacks good launch titles (I personally don't care about Zelda) and the only game I'm interested in is ARMS and MK8 Deluxe, as for the 3DS I already have it but I don't use as much as I did when I first got it but it still has a great library of games like FE Fates,Smash, and Pokemon Moon.
I agree, get the 3ds instead of the Switch. 3ds already has a good library of games to keep you occupied for a while. Best to wait until the Switch builds a library of games and drops in price.
I would like to get a Switch(mostly for Mario Odyssey) but I'll most likely get a New Nintendo 2DS. Owned a 3DS since before so I'll have Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 since before, and it will be cheaper since I'm short on cash atm. Mario Maker is also a must have for me. I will miss Mario Odyssey though but hopefully I can pick up a Switch before they stop selling them. :)
I would be so close to having enough money for a Switch. If my old 3DS didn't stop reading the physical game carts. Prompting me to buy a New 3DS for $199. I want a Switch so bad. I might have to wait a year or two until its stop selling like crazy. Just like how the 3DS went from being on shelves almost everywhere, to a few weeks before xmas and after xmas (stores having none)
We know come Christmas period nitendo will most definitely be trying to push sales for the NS so makes sense to wait till then cause I'm pretty sure the consoles will be bundled with games for the exact same price. It's all a waiting game for me. I mean I probably would have pre ordered the NS if it was bundled with the Zelda game.
Not a fan of 2DS because of the small screens. They are just too small for my old eyes. A great system still, though. Had one before, but now I am very happy with my New 3DS LL.
I should have got the 2DS or New 2DS instead of the N3DS XL. The only games I REALLY enjoyed on my 3DS were Animal Crossing and Monster Hunter: Generations.
I absolutely love my New Nintendo 3DS XL I have tons of Games on it it's actually portable lol and it has pretty decent Battery Life and it's here I don't have to wait which means if you decide SWITCH you and I may have to wait a very long time and check every store to see stock. I will buy a Switch yes but I need to be patient and enjoy my 3DS which has a lot of Games. Oh and I recommend the New 3DS because of the way it plays and has Stable Head tracking 3D as well as a C stick (another joystick) and a faster processor definitely worth the extra 100-120$
I don't know... the way Nintendo kept the emphasis on the switch being a HOME console multiple times in their live stream event. I doubt it they would want to kill the 3ds anytime soon, unless they make a new handheld.
I don't know if the Switch will kill the 3DS specifically, but more or less that the system is already on the way out with how old it is. Surprisingly Nintendo has stated they're interested in a 3DS successor that isn't the Switch. That should be interesting.
The 3ds is cheaper,has many games, is lighter,its battery lasts longer,its games are cheap, has 3d vision, and will live for at least more 5 years. Even now in 2019 we still have games being launched for 3ds(kirby epic yarn last month)

And about the Switch.... well, depends if they relase some game that interest you. nickwick35 hey i have the same issue. Dead pixel on bottom screen and its really annoying. I've heard some say that The warranty covers stuff like that and others say it doesn't. Mines is only like 2 weeks old :|.
Yeah got mine last year and it just randomly decided to kill a pixel. It's hardly noticeable but I can't take my eyes off of it. Hopefully the video works and if not, I'm going to take it back and get a new one. I didn't spend $250 for it to have issues.
I'm likely gonna sell my 3DS for a switch actually. I had a lot of fun with it but the switch appeals to me a lot more and I have a lot of games to play on ps4 already so a lack of game library at first isn't gonna bother me so much.

I got pretty pissed at Nintendo for the 3DS. I got a 3DS xl limited edition pokemon X&Y blue version and then months later, the new one comes out. I bought that and now the switch is coming out. I'm gonna sell all i have.

you should sell your 3DS after converting, it'll probably drop in value next year. I plan to sell mine, because I doubt they'll be able to keep riding that Pokemon wave next year, especially since I can play Switch in all the same places I play my 3DS, AND can put it on a large television while at home, so I have no need for a 3DS now.
I'm gonna wait for the Mario Odyssey switch bundle next year, but I got my 3ds meanwhile
I don't have a 3DS because my Lite did well until I lost it. Now I'm striving to get the best DS because if I'm going to spend that much money, might as well get the best handheld.

two of those are already confirmed for Switch though, so going forward, it's going to be a hard sell for staying with the dated lower resolution 3DS, I think Pokemon would seal the deal too for many

You should get the NEW Nintendo 3DS XL because it has improved 3D compared to the unfinished 3d on the original 3ds and original 3ds xl. And plus, I know for sure that you meant to say 2011, because that was when the very first 3ds ever made (the one you have) started to exist

I'm thinking of selling my 3ds xl (new model) for the switch.. what are your thoughts? The only game I have is animal crossing so I won't be losing much in regards to games I've bought.. +CourtB Considering Youn only have animal crossing I say go for it. Unless you planned on getting more 3DS exclusive games, the Switch is great although there's only about three games worth getting at the moment (Zelda, Snipperclips and Fast RMX, in terms of exclusives although Zelda is on Wii u).
I would definitely recommend 3DS. It has a bunch of great games such as Smash bros, Pokémon, 3D land, and more, along with backwards compatibility for the DS games and a free online service. I would hold off on the Switch at least until holiday 2017 just because it seems that it won't have a ton of games until then, and we will see if enough games use online services and if they're good enough for them to make us pay for then.
Agreed, games really do matter here so it surprises me people comment on this video saying Switch because it's new and more powerful.
I am going to get the Nintendo switch because 1. I have a 3ds 2. the 3ds gives me headaches because the low resolution and the tiny screen 3.i think the 3ds has some flops like Mario maker and the new Yoshi "port" and others, with are good but not more than good 4. splatoon Mario, Zelda, xc2, fe warriors, arms, Mario Kart 8 dlx and others

yeah, tiny is right, the XL was needed just to be able to read that ungodly small text! Remember, the XL version is the highest selling for a reason, and when put side-by-side, many choose the larger XL, and Switch is only 2 or 3 inches longer than a folded XL with the Joy Cons attached, so it's not like it's this massively large device people think it is.
6.2 inches on switch vs.4.88 inches on 3ds xl is actualy a big difference in my opinion

Basically if you bought a N3DS xl now u could also purchase like 4 games to go with that right off the bat and still be cheaper than the NS whereas buying the NS on launch you have to buy a game on top costing you a further £50. It basically all comes down to what you can afford in the long run. I ain't made of money and I would be happy with either console but the sceptical in me is saying can I afford forking out £50 per game "nope" therefore the option for me getting myself the N3DS xl purely for the fact that for me it's more cost effective in the long term

I've had three 3DSes at this point: the one I got at launch, an XL, and a New 3DS that I got about a year ago with the swappable faceplates. I have over 70 cart games and 90 download games. I'm good with the 3DS at this point. I want the new hotness. I know buying a system at launch is not always wise but I really do have faith in it and it's promising a lot of experiences in just the first six months that sound appealing to me. I think it's definitely worth it by Holiday 2017 anyway. I would jump on board then if I were a more casual Nintendo fan.
Switch will no doubt have some cool experiences but yeah 3DS is a solid platform too so you can't really go wrong with either one, especially if you're in it for Nintendo specific games.
I bought the 3ds to play animal crossing, Mario kart, Pokémon and some other games. I lost my 3ds in 2014 and I got one in 2017. It's still a good hand held device.

as my birthday approached april 8th i was debating this same thing, ended up going with the 3ds xl since it has more games and i got a good deal for one. i still intend to get a switch but i love the 3ds xl and am happy with my decision

And gotta day I’m in love with it:) I’m collecting some really cool games like Stella Glow, Rune Factory 4, Animal Crossing New Leaf, Harvest Moon A New Beginning, and next I’m getting Pokémon Moon and I’m so excited to play that one🤗 I love the games for the Pokémon series on the 3ds and ds so I’m hoping to collect them soon.

Having the Switch in my hands now (this video was before I had it in my hands) I think the Switch is a much better machine but definitely lacking in games compared to something like the 3DS, it's also because the Switch has only been out a few weeks, 3DS has been out for years.

Are you talking about HD graphics? Because thats impossible as the 3DS is only slightly less powerful than the Wii.
If you want to play games that came out nearly a decade ago (3DS turns 7 in March), then go with the 3DS, if you want to play new games that are only a year old come March, and can possibly connect with mobile in the future, go with Switch. Nintendo's future is the Switch and mobile, they don't even mention their plans beyond 2018 for the 3DS, because they know next year should that next Pokemon installment actually come out, the 3DS will be dead, *dead* dead.

I think getting a Switch on launch isn't worth it since it lacks good launch titles (I personally don't care about Zelda) and the only game I'm interested in is ARMS and MK8 Deluxe, as for the 3DS I already have it but I don't use as much as I did when I first got it but it still has a great library of games like FE Fates,Smash, and Pokemon Moon.

I agree, get the 3ds instead of the Switch. 3ds already has a good library of games to keep you occupied for a while. Best to wait until the Switch builds a library of games and drops in price.

I would like to get a Switch(mostly for Mario Odyssey) but I'll most likely get a New Nintendo 2DS. Owned a 3DS since before so I'll have Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 since before, and it will be cheaper since I'm short on cash atm. Mario Maker is also a must have for me. I will miss Mario Odyssey though but hopefully I can pick up a Switch before they stop selling them. :)

I would be so close to having enough money for a Switch. If my old 3DS didn't stop reading the physical game carts. Prompting me to buy a New 3DS for $199.
I want a Switch so bad. I might have to wait a year or two until its stop selling like crazy. Just like how the 3DS went from being on shelves almost everywhere, to a few weeks before xmas and after xmas (stores having none)
We know come Christmas period nitendo will most definitely be trying to push sales for the NS so makes sense to wait till then cause I'm pretty sure the consoles will be bundled with games for the exact same price. It's all a waiting game for me. I mean I probably would have pre ordered the NS if it was bundled with the Zelda game.
Not a fan of 2DS because of the small screens. They are just too small for my old eyes. A great system still, though. Had one before, but now I am very happy with my New 3DS LL.

The only games I REALLY enjoyed on my 3DS were Animal Crossing and Monster Hunter: Generations.

I absolutely love my New Nintendo 3DS XL I have tons of Games on it it's actually portable lol and it has pretty decent Battery Life and it's here I don't have to wait which means if you decide SWITCH you and I may have to wait a very long time and check every store to see stock. I will buy a Switch yes but I need to be patient and enjoy my 3DS which has a lot of Games. Oh and I recommend the New 3DS because of the way it plays and has Stable Head tracking 3D as well as a C stick (another joystick) and a faster processor definitely worth the extra 100-120$

I don't know... the way Nintendo kept the emphasis on the switch being a HOME console multiple times in their live stream event. I doubt it they would want to kill the 3ds anytime soon, unless they make a new handheld.
I don't know if the Switch will kill the 3DS specifically, but more or less that the system is already on the way out with how old it is. Surprisingly Nintendo has stated they're interested in a 3DS successor that isn't the Switch. That should be interesting.
The 3ds is cheaper,has many games, is lighter,its battery lasts longer,its games are cheap, has 3d vision, and will live for at least more 5 years. Even now in 2019 we still have games being launched for 3ds(kirby epic yarn last month)

nickwick35 hey i have the same issue. Dead pixel on bottom screen and its really annoying. I've heard some say that The warranty covers stuff like that and others say it doesn't. Mines is only like 2 weeks old :|.
Yeah got mine last year and it just randomly decided to kill a pixel. It's hardly noticeable but I can't take my eyes off of it. Hopefully the video works and if not, I'm going to take it back and get a new one. I didn't spend $250 for it to have issues.

I'm likely gonna sell my 3DS for a switch actually. I had a lot of fun with it but the switch appeals to me a lot more and I have a lot of games to play on ps4 already so a lack of game library at first isn't gonna bother me so much.

3ds is crackable so it's a ton of value there, just a console and a micro sd card and you have the best portable gaming experience!
