That's a genre in traditional maori called Kapa Haka. Still done daily by children in schools across New Zealand. I would highly recommend you search UA-cam for Kapa Haka there are so many you could spend a lifetime going through them.

I’ll put the Maori in every game specifically for this theme. It’s just so beautiful, it really reminds you what Civ is all about. You’re building an empire of people, and the real path to victory involves protecting and defending them and their home for all eternity.

Surely if these cultures developed a musical tradition that grew to include hundreds of individuals, they would be comprised of very different instruments. This is one of the most magical themes in the entire game. I almost always play as Kupe or put him in my games so I can hear it while I play. Something about this playing in the background while you build a flourishing empire that focuses on the arts and sciences, environmentalism, renewable energy, etc. is just so intensely satisfying. It feels like you're creating what humanity was meant to be.

I'm Brazilian and I heard this song for the first time when I bought the game and I fell in love with this song. I think without a doubt that this is the best OST in the game, because it shows the love of the musicians and without Doubts from Pokarekare Ana it's the best part. I think I'm now realizing I've never actually heard this version of the song in game, because every time the Maori have ended up in my games, they'll settle their capital city on a tiny island, most of the time literally a single tile, out in the middle of the largest ocean on the map. And that just cripples them for the entire game. They'll settle 2 or 3 other cities incredibly far away, every single one of which will almost immediately rebel. And then they end up barely reaching the industrial age by the end of the game, if they're lucky. I've only ever seen them settle their capital on a continent once, on which they were immediately boxed in and crowded out by two other civilizations. And it's a shame, because I actually really like this version of the song.

I am turkish have no idea what is maori culture but I really like this theme
I think I'm now realizing I've never actually heard this version of the song in game, because every time the Maori have ended up in my games, they'll settle their capital city on a tiny island, most of the time literally a single tile, out in the middle of the largest ocean on the map. And that just cripples them for the entire game. They'll settle 2 or 3 other cities incredibly far away, every single one of which will almost immediately rebel. And then they end up barely reaching the industrial age by the end of the game, if they're lucky. I've only ever seen them settle their capital on a continent once, on which they were immediately boxed in and crowded out by two other civilizations.
And it's a shame, because I actually really like this version of the song.
