- A Friend was fixing a 1.7 ton Kubota excavator slew motor, he couldn't find the parts he needed and a new slew motor was $7500 new..
So I asked Fridayparts, they had the parts on the shelf - www.fridaypart...
My other channel (Angry Ram) - • What Happens when you ...
Yes Marty, definitely film the restoration please!
A series on the restoration would be great 👍
Great idea, I concur with comments to filming the restoration 👍
It'll take several video's - assuming it's actually salvageable.
Absolutely yes
Absolutely! Love old iron being brought back to life
After the war, the U.S. Forest Service used those little crawlers for fighting forest fires. They would parachute them in along with the smoke jumpers to cut fire trails. I have a friend who has a similar version named Agritrac. Sure would like to see video of the restoration!
Don’t think Marty does restorations, his thing Is to get it going and use it for every day work.
I always enjoy Marty's repair videos. No problem ever seems insummountable.
The man is unstoppable.
Kiwi mate.. tough smart resourceful bastards. Apart from the aversion to under arm bowling and the funky accent they are bloody fine people that just love to move to Australia ..I’m just taking the Piss !!
Sorry Marty had to go there lol
Rollies in the top pocket, drenched in brake cleaner. What a classic - you don't see as many blokes like this around as you used to.
Can punch more down when the papers are laced with brake cleaner haha
That's what cigarettes and break cleaner will do...
Unfortunately 😕
I was gonna say something similar, if not smoking, then rolling the next one with hands like ox hide.
Reminded me of all the old "cockys" aka farmers when I was growing up in the 80s her in OZ.
I found myself looking to see if he was wearing one of those wristwatches with the leather cover. It would have completed the picture :)
Could have my Kiwi dairy former grand dad..rolly still hanging on his lip, while rolling the next with 24-D or god only knows what else on his hands..
Marty you are the ultimate " I know a bloke " thanks great video as are they all .
Love your style bro. Keeping old school practical alive and kicking. A video on the dozer is essential in my opinion. Look forward to seeing it.
You know the old man is a bad ass when he is smoking a J while listening to hard rock and working with a multi-ton press!!!! Baller baby baller!!!!
YES to the restoration Mr T.
I think I see a pressure relief valve on the hydraulic motor. I would adjust it so that the unit can barely swing. Saves on the coupler shaft.
Interesting video. Although I vote for more videos where you drag home a broken piece of equipment and make it useful. Your unique talent of making practical repairs is never tiring to watch and learn from.
Best part of the video: Browny appears to be smoking a joint throughout the repair.
I love watching people restoring
old Stuff , you must feel something
when you see it working & running
fills you with pride 😳
Your m8 is one hell of a good mechanic, I can not wait to see them working on that crawler from WWII
I would have enjoyed an introduction to your friend, even a voice-over. He's handy and I appreciated how he actually held his breath when doing the fine work. This is good stuff.
It might have something to do with him having cigarette all the time in his mouth
Yep, real old school here..... durrie in the mouth, gentle as she goes
Gentle like when he hammered that motor into the machine :D
Yes definitely film the restoration of the Clarke dozer. I helped restore two of these for the Imperial War Museum in England. They are both static exhibits, one in London and one in the American Air Museum at Duxford. They were too far gone to make them into runners within the available budget. We were able to get a new copy of the mechanical handbook for the dozers, which was very useful for refabricating the thin metal work, such as the ballast boxes. Good luck with the project.😀🇬🇧
Did you catch up to the vid marty made re the Clarke dozer?
A couple of stills of it working might give the exhibit some "life" experience?
Dead dart in the mouth.
Pouch in top pocket.
Nicknamed Browny.
This man is my idol
Mike Edridge. Best boss I’ve ever had, the amount of knowledge Mike has about machinery and earthworks and a lot of other things is unreal! Gave me my start in Earthmoving. I owe a lot to Malcolm & Mike. Good to see him still ticking away with his projects.
I knew it! This tough old bastard is always in the thick of it, every time Marty films a heavy equipment segment. Crazy how much he knows about each piece of equipment spanning over the years. Last of a dying breed...
God bless old bloke's in sheds fixing things 😇
Now that will defintely be a series worth watching. I'll be keeping my eye out
Great video as always, Marty. Browny is the classic kiwi looking mechanic with the cig while working, lol. I believe that even during gale force winds that ciggie would stay on his lip unmoved, lol.
Wow great way to save $7500. Glad to see Marty back, hope it's been work that's kept you busy and not sickness or bad-news
Say the sand blaster will plenty of money on this project!!!! Rust is the new paint!!!!! Yes if there is a team effort!!!!
Yes definitely would enjoy watching the restoration of that equipment it truly would be amazing I've never even seen or heard of one of those I'm a lover of all things in mechanical and those things check all the boxes it's amazing because you could see everything and how it works pretty straightforward period
Just fixing mine the same way and saved thousands thanks to your video and link
Yes,please record their efforts to rebuild this old piece of war machinery, it would definitely be as interesting as your videos are!! There is one of those for sale in my neck of the woods here in Pennsylvania, I believe the owner wanted $3000 for it,don't know it's condition, and it's not for me to be bringing home, already have a '57 John Deere 420C crawler to play with!!😎😎😎
Thanks for the vid. As for recording the old blokes .. Yes Please! This old knowledge will pass away unless recorded! Jim Bell (Australia)
Yes to the restoration, and thanks for this interesting rebuild. Cheers from Germany.
I'd certainly enjoy seeing the restoration. I am biased though, since I have the same airdrop dozer in the garage, maybe slightly better shape but similar. Did get it to run, but that's where I stopped.
I get a lot of stuff from Friday parts. They have a good selection.
Great video, yes please film the restoration!
Slew motors and hoses are always fun.
Try it on a big CAT.
Nasty.
Every manufacturer wants proprietary parts because they make more money selling parts than selling the machine. We had a machine with Parker joysticks in it that the dealer wanted $2,000 for. I contacted Parker directly. I was told they couldn't sell that part number because it was proprietary but he told me they could spec out one exactly the same and give it a different part number. It worked out well because we wanted a joystick with finer control in the center and more normal when moved farther from the center. They built them for us and we purchased them for $250 each instead of $2000 each.
It's 5 AM in Minnesota USA and you've already got close to 40,000 views. Can you imagine how much enjoyment you've brought the world since you started putting videos op on UA-cam? Thanks for everything Marty, and yes, if you have time I think there are a LOT of people that would love to see that dozer get worked on. Best wishes to you and yours from all around the world.
Behold: The Old Joker, in his natural habitat.
Film it Marty, it really is amazing. How things from all different countries can find homes in other places. Really amazing to think about.
There is nothing I enjoy more than working besides a mentor or someone who knows way more than me. And that’s many! He could have done that blindfolded! The hands of a craftsman say it all. Thanks Marty. Was that text that came in the Mrs. asking for you to get milk and bread when you are done playing? 😂
It's always a good day when a Marty T video drops
By all means Marty, film the restoration of the U.S. Army tractor/crawler! I would love to see that little dozer come back to life.
"Shall we film the restoration" Definitely
I'd LOVE to see the restoration of that little Dozer!
Hi Marty, great video on the pump and a video on getting the mini dozer going TWO WORDS YES PLEASE. Looking forward to that.
Absolutely film the restoration please Marty. Even if you can’t be there all the time, maybe set up a camera or 2 covering the area where the dozer will be. Loved watching Brownie work on the swing motor. Nothing better than watching knowledgeable & experienced people do their work. I have no doubt the brothers will be fascinating to watch & listen to them work. Don’t take this the wrong way Brownie & mike, but Marty may have to show you how to use the cameras when he’s not around 🫢🫢🫢😂
He sounds like Barry Crump, I kept expecting him to call you Scotty.
The Affirmative , to see the LeTourneau Run....
Yes please film the restoration.😃
I'm surprised its stripped that part in the slew motor, I see alot of servicing and particularly beat up U17's and have never seen one do that, They must've been hammering that thing pretty hard!
Works just fine for me. Whatever you film, I'll be there watching wishing I could see more vids from you.
Definitely YES for restoration. Looking forward to it.
I think you need to whack it a few times with a rusty chain. It doesn't have the Mr. T patina. (The Kubota of course, the dozer takes center shelf)
Man, there's just something magical about watching an old-timer wrench on something. Makes me miss my grandpa's.
Hope all is well with you and your family Marty. I look forward to each video. I would love for more frequent and longer videos if you found it to be possible. I could watch your videos for hours!
liked for proper bearing installation technique
We have to see the restoration!
I'm in. I love it when old machines are made to run again. Great video thumbs up.
Yes to the restoration video on the dozier 👍
I'm always up for a good restoration!
yes definitely film it, it will be a very unique restoration🙂
It’s so refreshing to watch more local kiwi stuff. Love hearing the classic banter. Keep up the good work!
There is near zero likelihood I’ll ever need apply the knowledge I glean watching your videos, but I am always captivated nonetheless. Special shout-out to Brownie for his guest appearance. Yes, documentation of the restoration please. 🚜………..💨
Sure would enjoy seeing that restoration, I'm a Kiwi from the Waikato and thoroughly enjoy your adventures down there in the Sounds. Keep up the great content, though I find the shorts a little too short I have to say, not a criticism, just an observation.
Nice! Glad you were able to help your buddy save so much money! As for the little dozer, the LeTourneau company made mini-scrapers for the same job. The had to be carried in 2 planes / gliders, though. Tractor half in one and the scraper in the other. Matt, at Diesel Creek visited a construction machine show and has some video of a restored LeTourneau scraper running. ua-cam.com/video/md3lOVPR3Yw/v-deo.html
Will watch any videos you do - even flies crawling up a wall. You probably have them trained to work in tight spaces
Fantastic repair om that pump guys. Definitely would like to see that restoration 👌
In a world where kids are battling to decide what pronoun to go by, I bloody loved watching this old timer fix a digger with a durry hanging off his lip the whole time. Men like him make the world go round.
Old model kiwi..
Would be great to see the restoration.
Awesome video Marty. I love that your mates can count on one hand to help hold something. & another with a camera in their face!! 👏👏👏
Yep love a rebuild of the dozer, nothing like a flat head rebuild
Shall we film the restauration,, YES.
Cheers from Sweden,, 🍻😎👍👍
Yes Your channel is one of my regulars
Would not want to be in a glider with that! Wonder how big the wingspan was to carry it.
Yes, please film the restoration .
What a silly Question, Marty.!!
Kubota thinks their parts are made of gold.
Yes,most definitely film the restoration
Big respec to the old boy at work. Love watching old masters at it.
Bearing NOTHING...heck, they sent you a complimentary air freshner.
Yes a great idea I would love to see the restoration 👍
Cor Blimey guv'nor the old man was very methodical and you were suuuuper helpful. I like him testing it before bolting it in place. Nicely played gentlemen!
Hell yes Marty would be awesume , thought it was brownie lols I no his son great to see him ,cheers , shaneo, nelson, 👍
Yeah would love seeing it brought back to life
Man that is a nice press!!
Its a beauty, makes my 20 ton press look like a toy
Really enjoyed this video bro and yes be neat to see progress of the wee dozers restoration. The breeze here smells of penguin poo so most be from the south pole. Safe travels
That restoration would be interesting.
Yes video the restoration!!
Old mates done that before nice work
That is why you should never sweep your load withe the bucket it is a digger not a sweeper!
Yes please, your show is my favorite! Watching from Cheyenne, Wyoming USA.
Absolutely film the restoration. Please
Gloves? Never heard of 'em!
Thanks for the upload Marty
Please do the restoration
Congrats - Swing Motor Fixed ! Soooo Great to get the Right Parts ! Well done indeed and we enjoyed the Video ! Many Cheers from us in Australia !!!!
What did they use before aerosol cleaners and lubricants , hee hee. thanks for sharing.
Chip brush and an open bucket of gasoline (or acetone if it had to be _Really_ clean!!)
Blow parts out with the air compressor if need be.
Those hands have seen a lot of work in their time!
I wondered where you had gone Marty! Been looking out for your latest video :)
Super interesting. Looking forward to the WW2 dozer. Seabees!
Absolutely re filming the resto
I found myself strangely fascinated by seeing what's in the motor.
Nice job 👍. I thought old mate Brownie there was Barry Crump there for a minute.
Always amazes me how people use strong cleaning fluid and never wear gloves and rely upon the skin...isn't it amazing how tough God made our bodies.....
Just heard from Wellington Daily News, that your buddy has not removed that tailor made cigarette in 3 years. Some say it is stapled on there. Your a good friend MartyT !!
