very nice and informative video! i was a little worried doin the timing belt on my sc400, but i've seen 4cylinder engines that were more difficult to do
I have a 1uz Fe in a triumph TR7. I put the engine in around 9 years ago but its only done around 50,000. My engine has no power steering , air conditioning, fan only an alternator.Very different look. This is confirmation I need to change the timing belt. Very helpful good commentary.
Great video. I wish you had a camera person or body mount for some of the video. I would have loved to see you turn the crankshaft to get to TDC, just to see how much force it requires and how the whole system moves when you manually turn the crank.
Important step is missed on this timing job. This is from the workshop manual. I have done 100s of timing belts and i know from personal experience that after taking the belt off, sometimes camshaft pulley can move and if the clearance of piston to valve are tight you might get screwed right there. I was lucky couple times when it moved and learnt since then either to lock camshaft pulleys with grip clamps or follow instructions like on this vehicle and move the crank pulley. FROM MANUAL Turn the crankshaft pulley approx. 50° clockwise, and put the timing mark of the crankshaft pulley in line with the centers of the crankshaft pulley bolt and the idler pulley bolt. NOTICE: If the timing belt is disengaged, having the crankshaft pulley at the wrong angle can cause the piston head and valve head to come into contact with each other when you remove the camshaft timing pulley (step 19), causing damage. So always set the crankshaft pulley at the correct angle
Hi. Thanks for your video. I follow your steps to change my 2000 LS400 which is slightly different. But Even after I removed spark plugs the crankshaft pulley is not rotating freely. I haven’t loosen the screw thought. Will it rotate freely after removing the crankshaft screw? Because now It’s tight and couldn’t be able to set TDC. Do I need to put the car in neutral or something? Please help advise !!
Have one in our shop for a bearing noise. Luckily it was the Fan Clutch bracket assembly in front of the water pump and not the actual water pump.. Still crazy how much you have to take off just to get to it.
bought a new '95 LS400 and I think it's still on its original belt 😬 gonna attempt this soon. I've done it twice before on a 1MZ, but not this guy. I'm hoping I can fit my Milwaukee Mid-torque impact wrench in there to get the harmonic balancer bolt off, cause I don't have access to air tools.
You know those 2 little rubber caps on the distributor caps?? Yea one of em fell into the timing chamber from the driver side while I was trying to replace a cap & rotor(turns out they were already replaced T_T)..should I be worried? I kinda am cause I reeeaally don't wanna have to do this..
ehhhhh maybe........the mileage is not why I would change it.....it would be due to the age ......lexus recomends a timing belt change around 80,000 miles or every 6 years.
@@MattShaughnessy6 - Thanks for the reply about the timing belt! Another question: Is there any chance to be taken if I do not bother changing the water pump at 70k miles or right away? I understand that some materials will change functionality and break apart due to age. (I just got this 1995 LS400 with only 68K)
So i gotta ls400 97, my fan clutch went bad i replace but now it doesnt turn on an stay on it starts but dies off quick, would it have to do anything with timing or does the timing need to be adj if i just replace the fan bracket an serpentine belt? Any info can really help

Thanks so much for posting this, I'm about to dive into it.
Great clear and concise video man!
Great Video like how well you went over everything . Keep up the good work !!
Thanks
Good tips, you explained the reason for 2 rotations. 👌
great video, looking forward to the other parts!!!

Fucking love brother...wow nice simple and just fucking awesome now I could do this to mine 1994 sc400 thank you thank you
Good job , hope to see part 2 soon!
For those LOOOOONG bolts that go into the water pump, do you recommend putting anti seize paste on them when you re-install?

Would you recommend to change the timing belt and water pump on a 1995 LS400 with 70,000 miles (seventy thousand)? By the way, great video!

@@jackboltsvolts8986 it would be way more cost effective in the long run to go ahead and change it rather than wait.

Hello! Do you know if this car has a regular key or the key it uses needs to be programmed in order to start the engine. Thank you in advance
My 1995 LS400 does not have a transponder in the key.
Did you replace the power steering pulley?
How much you charge for all these things?
