Really looking forward to learning from your videos on this one, Joe! When I said in your “Alexander” video that GBoH was my 2nd favorite Pre-20th Century wargame series, it was the runner-up because this is my first. That said…I don’t think I’ll ever feel like I’ve “learned” this game. I’m always eager for a session with it, but I’ve never had a tougher time wrapping my head around a rules set. And that's on me, definitely not on the game or its designer (who's brilliant). Constantly yelling at myself to “unlearn” other wargame dynamics when I sit down with this series. It’s really an amazing wargame, but after half a day with it, I need to go for a walk to clear my head; I should have taken it up a decade ago, I think. But I always come back to it; I find it compelling as hell. Ben’s designs burn my brain, but once you get into them they’re hard to top for immersion and just plain fun.
Joe, this system has really matured over the past two decades. While it remains complex, it is quite evocative of the era and is a lot of fun to play! I hope you enjoy the play-through, and of course I will check out the follow-up video when posted.

Thanks Tom - I am hoping I can handle the learning curve in a reasonable amount of time. I'm really looking forward to playing this one.

Thanks - I was back and forth on picking this one up for a bit and finally got it during GMT's recent sale. Looking forward to trying it out.
