    I detail my car and one basic thing is when you just use wipes to ‘remove’ stuff, you are just dragging small bits of dirt and stones across your paintwork. Now mountain bikes get thrashed si doesn’t matter that much IMO but you could minimise it. Use multiple wipes to avoid transferring the dirty picked up crap against the top, shiny bits, that you want to keep looking good. Cheers for your uploads though man. Like your channel a lot.

      First thing I thought of is if you don't hose the dirt off first, the grit in it WILL scratch your if you rub it paint!

    Dude, the biggest question I had was, “Will it kill me to ride long distances on asphalt/concrete”? Great video. In the beginning I thought, ‘ok, I’m getting a gravel bike’, I think I can get a good mountain bike now and be happy. Getting a good saddle sounds like a wise investment.

      @Jerry Rawlings A flat bar Roadbike (like Specialized Diverge Evo) is best for commuting. MTBs are heavy (due to suspensions) and the gear ratio is tuned for climbing, so you can't really pedal very fast. For instance, my road bike Ultergra drive chain has 52 teeth on the biggest chainring, 11 tooth on the cassette. And my MTB only has 30T-11T and twice the weight.

Since i got my back last month I have only been able to do paved rides till snow melts, the resistance is no joke over time, i ride 20+ miles each ride and its a great workout pushing at full resistance

    I love taking my Roscoe 8 down on the pavement through downtown and what not down here in Davenport. The one thing I can suggest for Comfort reasons is go to list it's a whole different ball game it rolls better your chance of a flat is half as much but otherwise I mean as far as a Roscoe goes yeah I like you said either lock it out or go to the highest compression setting and it pedals wonderfully. Like you man I love jumping on the bike and riding downtown and grabbing a bride or a beer you know who thinker and around then go hit the trails you know it's all good man this bike can do everything

    Been riding a mongoose malus with fat tires on trails and pavement.
    Tire pressure about 20-25psi
    Swapped the seat to a larger, fat butt, gel seat.
    I ride a lot of the trails sitting down.
    Swapped the factory cranks and 36t sprocket for a 2 speed 24t/38t crank and sprockets.
    I didn’t add a front derailleur.
    I usually keep ii on the 24t as I’ve found that I prefer the lower range.
    3rd gear is about equivalent to the factory first.
    It’s not a perfect bike or the best quality, but with the 2 easy modifications, I’ve found it to be a really fun and enjoyable bike for off-road and pavement.
    There are some off-road features and jumps that I avoid with this bike.
    But the majority of those I would probably avoid on any bike.
    I’m not surprised this Roscoe performs well on pavement.
    It’s been my experience that most off-road bikes cross over to pavement well with a tire pressure and perhaps a tire change if you have aggressive knobby tires.
    I rarely have any slide with the factory malus tires.

    Thanks for sharing your commute with this bike. I actually have it in my shortlist of what mountain bike to get, so I guess I just need to decide if I want to spend more on a Roscoe or go with a Marlin. I'm pretty much looking into casual/recreational riding but want something that can last me and can tackle trails in case I want to go exploring once in a while.

    Hey Matty nice job! Wow what a clean city you have. I don't ride my full suspension to work/commuting/shopping because it's too expensive to lock up and the gearing and knobs on the tires are too slow, especially on pavement. You covered some of the points for a good commuting/shopping/pavement bike: lock out the forks, pump up your tires, make sure the saddle is high so that the legs are almost fully extended, that will take some pressure off your butt so you aren't deep in the saddle. I would add a rack is important, i think the roscoe has mounts, and to use the bike in that mode often i would change the tires to an XC tire, like 2.1" wide with low knobs. Your air volume on your 2.8 should make for a very comfy ride, if you have an XC low knob on them they should also roll well, my 2.5" minions are too knobby. I have narrower, larger tires on my road bike with higher gearing to take time off every day down hills, it is significant. I do ride my old hardtail 2.25" tires to work sometimes. The 26" tires don't spin fast but the 3 chainrings give me much higher gears than the trail bike, and i get a choice to ride some diversion on non-road bike trails on the way to work, which is real fun!

    Thank You, I’ve been wondering about how the Roscoe Series would be able to handle commuter style use. Your video and opinions are very helpful. I have the Trek 3500 and now I’m ready for a new mtb. I do enjoy riding the 3500 to an extent, I just don’t like the spring coil forks & the entire gear shifting system. I like the marlin series but what I want as far as a mtb in functionality, I’m leaning towards the Roscoe 7 it’s just i’m not sure yet on pulling the trigger. One of the key points I really like about the Roscoe is the drop saddle and the wider tires for better handling on the trails, unlike my 3500 which I’ve wiped out many times on the trail because the tires were to thin. I think the main thing I keep hearing bad about the Roscoe Series is that it’s not friendly on road conditions but I don’t care about speed really. I just want to be able to ride to the beach all the way to tackling some good trails to the extreme such as the Stagecoach 400 or the Impossible Route which both have some form of road travel included in the routes. Thanks Again 👍🏻😎

    • @BuggSmasher
      @BuggSmasher 3 роки тому

      @Portland Rob - I've just checked the "Trek 3500'"s specs and your wheel profile is the same as my current ride , 26"x2.0".
      Anyway, I've just slapped down a deposit on a Roscoe 8, 2022 model, comes with 29er wheels x 2.6" tyres. I'm basically expecting more rolling resistance accordingly, but the larger tyres should also absorb a few extra bumps over the rough terrain. But keeping my 26" just because it's always been a nice cruiser with the thinner tyres. The other option is find a lower profile tyre to use in the city, and change back for weekend shredding !

    Awesome video. I ride on street up hills a-lot with this bike. I think it rides great.

    Two things I changed on my Roscoe 8 were, the grips to a fatter diameter (32mm) and I swapped out the saddle to a Shimano Pro Turnix that I had previously on my road bike.
    My friends and I, back when they use to ride, would go ride downtown Tulsa on Sundays when everything was closed. We would play around in parking garages, go up and down stairs, and just use different obstacles like walls to ride. Nowadays they frown on it, since they've revitalized the downtown area.

      Yo buddy what's up. I did the 28 to 32t swap of the chainring as well. I chose 32 cause TREK said it's the maximum. But as I changed it I see tons of space left. My question: have you tried a 34t? THANKS a lot if u still answer

    • @johnnydoe66
      @johnnydoe66 Рік тому

      @Rob Sensei Matter of fact, I just swapped to a new DUB Truvativ Stylo crankset in 170mm length with a 32t chainring, mine originally had a 30t. I also swapped out my bar and stem to Race Face Affect 35R in 40mm length and 780mm wide just over a year ago.
      As far as chainrings go, I definitely think it would be possible to fit a 34t, but I am not as fit as I was 30+ years ago when I started mtn biking.
      My next upgrade will be a longer dropper, the current one is a 130mm and I hope a 170mm will fit if the insertion length is good.

    I use auto detailer spray after riding on the trail, but those look better. I’m gonna check those out. I have a SE OM Duro XL arriving tomorrow. Right now I have 2 SE fixed speed cruisers, but I’m missing the gears on hills. I have a Trek mt bike, but my son has it. Man, I’d like to live in CO. It looks awesome

    I put a set of Kovee 29s on my Roscoe 8 and it makes a world of difference. I still hve my stock set of 27.5 so I swap them out when hitting trails. I bought a cassette, rotors and all so it is a 2 min swap. I run 55lbs on the 29s

    Looks like your Marlin 6 was the best street bike you can tell by watching your videos it was a little faster I was thinking about a Roscoe 7 but think I like the wider gear range on the 6 Its a good all round bike for a old man like me but if I was younger but I'd like a 1 x 12 for off-road but if I was younger I wouldn't ride all that crazy double diamond rock stuff thats made for a 4x4 truck with a good stereo and a cooler full of beer

      I’m an old guy too. I have a 2 year old Marlin 7 which is a 3x9 which is best for cross country riding up to 30mph but sticking to the middle 32t cog in the crank is the best for trail riding. The 2021 Marlin 7 is now a 1x10 and the rear derailleur has a clutch to keep the chain taut in rough terrain. They bumped the price tag up to $850.

      I give 650 for my 6 buying accessories I already have 1250 in it and through buying yet I need a bike work stand a helmet and probley more tools like a torque wrench chain tools cleaning brushes the list and s never ending but it's worth it just for physical and mental health and it's very relaxing and fun I've had lots motorcycles but this is even better and a little cheaper

    It would seem that the width of the handlebars would be a hindrance in the city. Giving room to peds to get around and by them like on the bridges and railed walkways. As far as the tires go, do you think 2.25-2.30 inch wide would be better?

    • @MattyActive
      @MattyActive  4 роки тому

    IMHO: If that bike is good enough for trails. It is way good enough for city riding.

    I have a roscoe 6. I personally think they roll slooow. Any sort of flat on the trail if your winded is brutal. Buuuut uphill or downhill on the trail whether rooty or rocky its the bomb.

    Somebody in a Facebook group told me about the Trek Roscoe 8 that I picked up yesterday for 600 bucks my buddy who has 20 plus years in the bike business as a mechanic and a wheelbuilder he went with me and he said it's an amazing deal it was badass I wrote it all day yesterday and it's raining today but I needed to take a break from muscle recovery but he went through it in his garage after we purchased it and regressed a few things it had barely been ridden❤❤❤❤

    I have a Cannondale trail se 1 and i dont really like commuting on it the 2.5 tires have too much rolling resistence. Im gettin a cheap used 80/90 mtb and will put on some semi slicks and thinner tires for commuting.

    A lot depends on the type of tyre you use. Fast rolling work well but clinchers etc are not suitable for commuting and pavements
