I don't think people listen to and analyse every lyric, especially at a wedding. If it's an upbeat melody and chorus, that's what matters. My wedding song was the only one by the Black Keys. If you analyse it, it's about unrequited love but the setting adds context and so it was a happy song for us and (hopefully!) our guests
He absolutely "gets it". I don't know a single other Bernard song, but I found this song on a 90s Anthems CD and have always loved it. His lack of ego in this interview makes me want to explore his music now.
"The Sound Of...." is a desert island disc for me. It's amazing that it was the sum total of their recorded output before they went their separate ways. Every song is a classic.
Guys got it bang on....."Just a song "....? Its a brilliant tune and really hits the spot. Just gotta love his relaxed attitude and coupled with David's vocals , its just one of those great tunes that sticks in ur mind and no matter how many times u hear it, its just simple, soulful and f****g brilliant. Good job....
At the end of July 2019, waiting at Kelvin grove bandstand in Glasgow for Suede to come on and 'Yes' came over the PA System. I was surprised by how many Suede fans thought this was controversial with some voicing concern that members of Suede might not be ok with this. Was funny.
a few of things that really make it a magical memorable tune, are the extraordinary & personable distinctiveness of Mcalmont as a singer, the heavy use of strings creating the archetypical 90s britpop sound (which sends anyone right back to the period) and the unusual form of the song which is balanced with its simple goal of being joyous, uplifting and catchy.
Yes was written to create memories. It's just one of those songs you have a moment with. For me, it was with some new friends late in the night, singing and dancing around the living room. Great tune, fantastic vocals
"Yes" is no way his best. Don't get me wrong it's GREAT. But for me that entire album is golden. I am a house and garage, grime , dubstep producer and back then I was just starting out. I heard "yes" then purchased the album on vinyl. I still listen to it today and just 3/4 days ago played the entire album again. For me "what's the excuse" is one of the greatest tracks ever written and obviously "you do". I praise this man and Mc Almont for that album as it's very very special to me
Oh no you are so wrong, hear the song, suck in the hook & the melody, adore your uniqueness & the fact you are both just so disgustingly slick & we can't help but be fans, it must be so hard for you both to be so cool!.
...point to prove and carrying an axe around. The tap trees stare down on me with wry temptation and force of God. Here the dorm underfoot and the hope flower sunshine shoot bursting seeding rays, flutter band fall into the phase format, the daze discussion discourse.
'Yes' is a modern day motown classic, an amazing song and an amazing sound but really people play this at their wedding?! the lyrics are really quite (brilliantly) bitter "you can't help someone recover after what you did" er hello hahahahahaa but nevermind, I hear some people play 'Every Breath You Take' because people are fucking idiots at the end of the day.
Well, he ripped off Phil Spector, of course, that' s how! He's smart not to mention it, of course, name-dropping Scott Walker and Dusty Springfield instead, but 'Yes' OWES HEAVILY to The Righteous Brothers' You Lost That Lovin' Feeling (his father's favourite song), combined with John Barry's 'You Only Live Twice' strings. And Mcalmont & Butler's 'Falling' (2004) is even more spectoresque ( 'Unchained Melody').
Shut up lmao the music is nothing like You've Lost that Loving Feeling. If you are going to accuse every one who used strings and orchestral crescendos in their music of "ripping off" that piece of scum then you will be there a long time. There were artist, before, during and after Spectors time in the business who did that far better than him.
I had forgotten all about this song, then heard a bit of it on a bus, came home and found it online and played it 10 times, it is so brilliant.
Probably the coolest man ever to be called Bernard.
My step dad is called Bernard and he’s a dick and my ex boss is called Bernard and he’s a dick. This Bernard is amazing
It's taken a year but I'd say Bernard Sumner would definitely be in the final of the competition!
bernard mathews ,bernard gribbin
Bernard Summers
Bernard Manning 🤔
"So tell me, am I looking better? Have you forgot, whatever it was that you couldn't stand about me?" - Perfect for a wedding!

The more I see Bernard butler,,the more I really like the guy,! 👏👏👏👏🇬🇧

The strings on that song deserve a video of their own
Imagine having written that song...my god
Blimey 🥂😂 proper english
I could listen to him talk all day..very down to earth and easy going style about him

What a lovely man. YES is in my top 10 best ever songs!
Its my fave song of all time, just simply a classic
One of the BEST songs ever!
YES!!! 👍😊
David is a fantastic singer, full of emotion
This is one of the best songs out there. Nobody else could sing it and do it justice!! Btw....I have 'Yes' on vinyl!! Thankyou!! x
Yes was written to create memories. It's just one of those songs you have a moment with. For me, it was with some new friends late in the night, singing and dancing around the living room. Great tune, fantastic vocals
Bernard is an amazing musician
I'd marry you Bernie! By the look of his tuner, he talks in A Major
+marty slackjaw hahaah is that a tuner?
+Asif Khan Well, it definitely has a chromatic tuner built in, if it's an EQ booster or something, but you can get rack mountable tuners.
Greatest song of the 90s and you do pretty close too
100 percent
i hope the person who chose to play "yes" at the firework display gets to hear this interview

Amen to that brother! You Do is such a beast of a song. Cant believe B.Anderson turned it down...
Both of them to be fair, supercool talented guys.
The stars were aligned when he wrote this one.
Brilliant! Thanks for posting :)
MusicMaster Bernard👏👏👏
Great interview guys...
I only wrote one verse, so we repeated it twice. Amateurs! REM's The one I love repeats the same verse 3 times.
Epic.
Him and Rhys James are doppelgangers
he's spent a good hour lining up his gadgets
Always reminds me of Wah! Story of the Blues.........not that thats a bad thing
Oh no you are so wrong, hear the song, suck in the hook & the melody, adore your uniqueness & the fact you are both just so disgustingly slick & we can't help but be fans, it must be so hard for you both to be so cool!.
What would you put before and after this song on your playlist? I've got blur - to the end (french version) after
end of the century
The Wild Ones - Suede
Before - A Design For Life by Manic Street Preachers
After - Sunflower by Paul Weller
I new Dusty was in there. Im not mad.i really thought it was a Dusty tune for all these years. Just found out today how wrong was i.
Does he cut his own hair in the dark?
encourage youngsters !!
I feel Yes is half finished. It really needs a different second verse to complete it.
It's fine as it is! Sometimes a bit of repetition of a verse is a good thing when it comes to a great pop single.
Dudosos
semi skimmed :)
i seen that

Asif Khan Yep. Lots of them out there. A bride and groom wanted Candle In The Wind at a wedding I played once. Wtf?
