    Thanks for this review! FYI, coats from the Curated are meant to come with a small piece of extra fabric so that you can have a tailor sew belt loops on for you at the proper height. Mine was tucked inside one of the pockets of the coat. I agree with you that it's an extra level of fuss I'd rather not deal with, so I never took mine to a tailor, but the option is there for anyone who really wants belt loops!

    • @mademoisellejaime
      @mademoisellejaime  2 роки тому +7

      Hi Caroline - you're absolutely right! Mine are in the spare room and I *completely* forgot to mention this in the video. I'm the same as you - extra fuss, and TBH while I've found decent tailors, I've never found one I'd trust to make something like that look perfect. Finding a great tailor is half the task!!

    • @carolinegleason535
      @carolinegleason535 2 роки тому +1

      @@mademoisellejaime I totally agree! And in addition to having to decide the placement (and trust the tailor to do a good job), you also have to decide if you want 3 or 2 loops, and how wide they should be, etc. It feels like a high stakes chance to ruin an expensive coat, haha. I'm with you 100%, I wish they had just put the belt loops on, and I say that as someone who is much taller than average and therefore would be the person whose waist doesn't align with the loops. At least I wouldn't leave the belt in a restaurant and have to go running back 3 hours later to find it ;)

      Just add thread belt loops yourself. It‘s really easy to do, I did this for both my Curated coats and it looks nice. Search for the tutorial on yt, there are brilliant ones. You just need colour-matching thread and a needle. Hth

    • @pinkapples33
      @pinkapples33 2 роки тому +4

      @@mademoisellejaime As an alternative to the traditional belt loop, which is more visible and therefore requires more skill to add on nicely, you can have your tailor add "thread belt loops" just on the 2 side seams of the coat. The thread belt loop is discreet and honestly it's so easy that you could do it yourself. I personally like when wool coats don't have the traditional belt loops because I like the versatility of wearing my coat open without messing up the clean silhouette with a hanging belt or empty loops.

      @@mademoisellejaime Hi, the two most recent coats (boyfriend in khaki and modern in khaki) I bought from them came with thread belt loops that are fairly sturdy. I don‘t know if this is now standard or if it‘s only a feature on the khaki colourway.

    They look amazing quality. Btw it says in your link for The Curated that it comes with extra fabric for customised loops - perhaps a tailor could add these in to suit body type. Great and thorough review!

    • @mademoisellejaime
      @mademoisellejaime  2 роки тому +1

      Yes it does! I totally forgot to mention that - although it does still come with that added hassle of finding a good tailor to put them on correctly etc. personally I’d just prefer a standardized spot for them (or two belt loops set one on top of the other!). And thank you! Hope you found it helpful x

    You could buy DMC embroidery thread (for colour matching) and add belt loops to the first jacket or get your seamstress to add them.

    • @mademoisellejaime
      @mademoisellejaime  2 роки тому

      Thanks Vanessa! I've mentioned this in a few other comments, but for me the point was that it's an extra step that many people might not actually bother to do. For example, I have a seamstress I'll use for alterations but I haven't found one I'd trust making alterations to a coat like this TBH. That can be really tricky to find. The other factor being, trousers/jeans/skirts, I think we just accept we may need to have these tailored, but something that is more of a splurge/more expensive like a coat, you generally want it to be ready to go from the moment you get it home.
      That's just my two cents though! I tend to wear a lot of my coats without the belt so it's not a deal breaker for me personally :D

    Such lovely coats. I do find the sizing on curated is a hit or miss. I recently ordered the London coat in size Sm and is huge on me (I am usually XS-Sm in US sizes).
    Currently waiting for the exchanged and hopefully the new size works because it foes feel super lovely 💕

    • @mademoisellejaime
      @mademoisellejaime  2 роки тому +1

      They're beautiful aren't they? And the quality is just lovely. The London coat is definitely next on my list - I love the plaid. What colour did you go with?
      I think part of it may also be intended fit vs. desired fit as the London to me looks like quite a "relaxed" style? For instance I often will size up - especially with knitwear - as I prefer a slouchier fit, which is totally achieved with my regular size in the Boyfriend, but to get a similar look in the Classic I'd probably want the medium, if that makes sense. I did see that they have the actual garment measurements on their site though which helps with that process - I always end up pulling out the measuring tape to check items against ones I already own (and love the fit of) :D

    Hi Jamie. Great review. I appreciated the side by side a lot. I have a question regarding the wool/cashmere coats. How cold degreewise weather would they be appropriate for? Also would the boyfriend coat be too long on someone who is 165.1 cm tall? Thank you.

    • @mademoisellejaime
      @mademoisellejaime  2 роки тому +2

      Hi Linda, so glad you found that helpful! So I have worn mine in Canberra during the winter where it gets below zero (-5 C I would say), and it's fine with a chunky knit and a trouser/jeans and boots. Also a scarf. If it were any colder I'd definitely be wearing some thermals or something underneath. So I suppose, you could make it work even in a really cold climate with some layering. And I'm about 7cm taller than you, so I think it would probably hit you about mid calf? I don't think that's too long - just depends on what you're after xx

    I would like to have the one with the buttons but in camel. Maybe some day, when I save up.
    The puffer coat has a weird shape in my opinion, especially in the front when you close it. And that the fabric picking up fluff would be a no, especially when wearing it with a wool scarf/sweaters.

      It's a beautiful style, the Graduate coat. I think the camel is a lovely choice - it's just the right shade.

    It seems like most people tend to size up in this coat from reviews I have seen. Looking at the sizing chart from the Curated, you would be an XS but you went with the S. I’m confused if I should get my true size or size up. 😢

    • @mademoisellejaime
      @mademoisellejaime  Рік тому

      Hi Vanessa! Thanks for your comment. Not sure if you've made your decision, but I'm a true size S/AU8/US4 in other brands. I'm also 172cm tall if that helps. I also have had the classic coat in the medium and it made me feel like a potato (I was advised to size up because of my height), so the small is perfect for me. I would go with your usual size.

    I love The Curated, but sadly, they don’t offer any petites. I could live with a too-long coat or blazer, but as a petite, I know those huge shoulders (5” shoulder seam) just won’t fit me. It pushes the arm to far from my body, then I don’t have free arm movement. I keep checking back, hoping someday they will offer some petite styles someday. I contacted them about this, but they never responded.

    A note to Canadians on shipping and duties of Curated coat from China to Canada. Even though the company charges shipping and taxed at checkout you will pay for them again to receive your coat. I was charged a total of $275 Canadian from UPS for duties and brokerage fees. Curated shipped me the wrong coat and will not refund me for the brokerage fees. Coat is not worth the price if you are paying $275 for duty and shipping upon entry.

      They actually come with strips of fabric so you can arrange the placement with a tailor at a later date (and always have done) - I've chatted with the founder about this. It's so that you can wear it no matter your height. Personally for me this is just an additional step and I would prefer average placement TBH!
