- Rare Film & backstage footage of the Late, Great NIna Simone, performing at her last ever concert 1990 performance at Paris Olympia (Bruno Coquatrix) includes songs Blue Sky, Mississippi Goddam - the protest song she penned after the 1963 murder of civil rights leader Medgar Evers and four African American school girls in an Alabama church bombing, and the perfect I Put A spell On You. Im just sitting here, shaking my head...everything about her is amazing. Ive never acknowledged that about someone (well, maybe my ex-BF)...but I digress. I just love how transparent she is. She just....IS. She's not trying to hide behind anything...she presents who she is, without gimmicks or a lighter makeup foundation...she didnt go somewhere to get a surgeon to make her nose smaller...she's not rockin' the wig down her back (hi, Aretha!)...and around this time, in the footage, her health was failing her...she was fragile.
She could've stayed home in the South of France, but she brought all of her flaws and physical ailments on the road, yet again. Because she loved us that much. I saw her live in Wash, DC, two years before she died...at Constitution Hall. I will NEVER forget it, and as Ive said before, I thought I was in the presence of royalty.
First heard this phenomenal woman’s name and music eons ago when attending HOWARD UNIVERSITY. What a forceful vibe she brought then and even now through her music.

I only discovered Queen Nina Simone during the pandemic and I am moved and touched by this phenomenal woman. Sometimes all I can get out of my mouth after watching her perform is....Wow! I'm deeply touched and inspired. What a gracious and amazing lady. An absolute trailblazer!

I had heard about her through crossword puzzles. Her first name 'Nina' is a coveted answer. But I too never dialed into her performances until the lockdowns.

I first discovered Nina Simone when i was a teenager. The first song i heard was blues for Mama. I still love nina today. I got alot of her albums on my ipod.

Had breakfast with a buddy yesterday. I’m white. He is black. British.
Both lives , diff cultures and we discussed music and who is the greatest of all time in regard to female singers. Immediately I said Nina and to be honest there’s nothing or nobody who will ever tell me different. My only regret is not seeing her or meeting her. I’m 39 and I just have deep love for this woman.

Me too! I'm 57, a Black American woman, that only knew of her in an abstract way. My God, my sweet Jesus, her music and pain SPOKE to my OWN. And here l am, discovering Miss Nina Simone at this stage in my life. YET l THANK GOD for His timing! The Netflix doc and these UA-cam videos are feeding my soul right now. Take care.

Es increíble lo adorable que resulta escuchar a la gran NINA SIMONE, para mi ella es la Reina del piano y el jazz, de verdad que cada ves que veo sus vídeos, y escucho y disfruto de su interpretación, quedo con la piel erizada, y ningún artista nunca había provocado eso en mi hasta que la conocí. Espero que siempre siga viva su música por todos los tiempos, y muchas personas mas puedan disfrutar de una de las mujeres mas importantes en la lucha de los derechos humanos, la igualdad de las razas y por supuesto la música clásica, en la historia del arte.
Nina is incredible and her music, compositions, style and performance is unique. However, the majority of jazz purists do not classify her as a jazz performer. Debatable maybe but true!!!!!

Her last ever concert was definitely not in 1990. She was still performing nearly up until the time of her death in 2003. Friends saw her live in Los Angeles in 2000.
I think they meant her last ever concert at this venue.
When the magnificent is simple...magnific! She makes the piano to talk and to sing with her, too!
Brave, Bold, Beautiful Black Queen! I just love her. So much gifted talent not always the best voice, but it was what she sang about. She lived a hard, stress filled life, but she stood for equality and left a beautiful legacy, a beautiful soul was she. First time I heard the Other woman, a song so true, always the side piece, even when she manages to steal him away, he’ll never be hers alone.
"not always the best voice"?! How dare you! Nina is the queen and goddess of all time! But really, this is her last performance, she's in her 60's or so, and I heard her voice crack maybe 5 times in this whole show. Yes, age takes a toll - maybe that's why it was the last performance - but here she is every bit the virtuoso that she always was. It's kind of amazing to watch this right after one of her first performances from the early 60's. And of course music was only a part of what she did. Just truly one of the great geniuses in history.

Her last concert was not in 1990 it was between 2000-2002 (she passed away in 2003) because i remember she came to LA and performed at the wilshire ebell theater around that time; i had head it announced on the jazz station radio.
+keithchanner And I saw her at The Greek around that same time. I remember because we waited for her all day and she came out and did a song and about half of another. I was still thrilled to see her in person... You are missed and never forgotten Ms. Simone! RIP beloved.

This definitely wasn't Nina Simone's last concert. I saw her three times in 1999, Manchester, Liverpool and London. Great footage though, I'd love a DVD of this.
