Initially, for the orchids to attain a grip on the tree, they need some media. Otherwise, it's difficult and the tree should have a soft bark. Mainly, oncidium varieties (Dancing Girl) are planted like this, with Coconut husk.
But some orchids may grip on to the tree by just trying, but it may not always succeed. So, insert some media in between like cocopeat for the safer result.

Some of my orchids are hanging outside for a long time (more than 5 years) under the shade of trees. its out there during rains as well. Mainly Phalaenopsis , Dancing Lady & Foxtail. Dancing Lady , flowers more often than the other two. Haven't seen any rotting problem yet during rainy season. Should I change their location to a shady area where they don't get rain?

The shade of the tree is good for orchids as these are their natural habitat. Also, you might have set a good drainage system for orchids over there. But if the drainage is uneasy or if the sunlight is high, chances are these plants will not do well. In the video, I was talking about the ideal and best way to grow orchids. Even I have orchids in trees, which I will cover in an upcoming video :)

Spiders are not a big threat to orchids. They make spider mites (എട്ടുകാലി വല ). Athoru prashnamaanu. But to prevent this, you can use any insecticide, diluted in water and spray (Do not spray on Orchid flowers as they will get burnt) :)
