Farewell of Slavianka (Russian: Прощание славянки - Proshchanie Slavianki) is a Russian patriotic march, written by the composer Vasily Agapkin in honour of the Bulgarian women bidding farewell to their husbands who left for the First Balkan War. The march premiered in Tambov in 1912 and was subsequently released as a single. Slavianka means "Slavic woman".

Farewell to Slav woman was written in 1912 and first presented in Tambov. The march is dedicated to Bulgarian women sending their men to the Balcan War in 1912 against turks. Agapkin, whose relatives fight against turks during the Russian-Turkish war for liberation of Bulgaria was impressed now bulgarian women send their husbands to battle not with tears, but with flowers. great russian composer and of course, great russian soul. That is the secret of the best well-known march in the World
"Useless" is a bit harsh. They have all recieved about three months of basic infantry training prior to starting the drilling practice. Also worth noting that the general "quality" of the soilders serving in the drill platoon is alot higher then most of the other Norwegian conscript units.
actually, "Farewell of Slavianka", as with many other songs from russia, originated before communism. This song was wrote by composer Vasily Agapkin in 1912 and was originally about the First Balkan War. When the Soviet Union was forced into the second World war, the Government believed that music was good for morale. They slightly altered the lyrics to fit. So really the political bounderies arnt really a problem. Besides, great music is great music. Im listening to this in Canada.
