  • I had some subscribers request a video about Finance jobs in Florida, so I decided to address wether or not Florida is a good state for finance majors, how the finance job market is across Florida, and gave some recommendations for finance companies in Florida, like Raymond James. You won't find as many investment banking, hedge fund, private equity, venture capital opportunities in Florida as you would see in more hot spot areas for finance, but there are some to be had if you are very well connected and an outstanding candidate.

    Congrats on the 1K sub mark! I was thinking of Florida but may be better to move somewhere with a bigger commerce industry like Texas.

    "Florida, for most cases, is not the best place to start your career."
    You hit it home! Probably can do a separate video on that.
    But Kaila your started first (finance) job in Florida.....
    Is that thanks to your hardwork of networking?
    If you want investment banks, go to NYC......or Wolf of Wall Street.
    People can support Kaila with a cup of coffee

      Yes, networking was key to getting my position. I could make a separate video about jobs in general in Florida, but not sure if I would just be repeating myself?

    Hi Kaila! I’ve been watching your videos lately as I try to navigate my future. I’m a recent college graduate from FSU with a degree in Actuarial Science but I am wanting to start my career in the finance field, specifically as a financial analyst or working within a bank. I’m from Orlando but want to move to Tampa. Do you have any suggestions on companies I should apply to for an entry-level position? Thanks so much!

      Raymond James and Citibank are the big names in Tampa Bay. Raymond James office is the north part of Saint Pete, really close to Howard Franklin bridge that connects to Tampa. Citibank is in East Tampa, almost Brandon area.

    Thank you for those informations. I will graduate in May 9-2020 with a bachelors degree in business administration finance. Which companies advise me to apply? Thank you

      Apply to as many as you can, so you can get as many interviews as you can to see which company would be the best for you and give you the best offer.

    Hi Kaila. I will soon graduate with a BA in finance. I live in Tampa. Do you know if JPMorgan is a good option to begin a path in IB in the Tampa area?

    • @kailakaila
      @kailakaila  3 роки тому +1

      JPMorgan doesn't have an IB division in Tampa. Depending on what you got hired for in their Tampa office, it might eventually allow you to move to an IB analyst role with them in another city. But I would advise you look into Raymond James or Baird if you are interested in doing IB in the Tampa Bay region.

    What does the no income tax matter when you make less there and has high housing costs?

    • @kailakaila
      @kailakaila  5 років тому

      Depends on the total overall scenario. Places like NYC have housing costs that are double the cost for what you get in Florida. State income ranges based on your income, so you need to see what your offer is in Florida if you get one vs what you get offered elsewhere and see wether it’s a good deal for you or not. 100k in Florida will take you a lot further than 150k in NYC for example.

    • @Eman1900O
      @Eman1900O 5 років тому

      @@kailakaila I'm sure NYC does cost more but you also get paid more there. I'm in the healthcare field and the salaries in my field are quite a bit higher in NY, so maybe it evens out. It really does seem like there is a "sunshine tax" here in Florida

    • @kailakaila
      @kailakaila  5 років тому

      As someone born and raised in NY, there are definitely reasons why people move out of NY. Everyone should look at things as a case by case scenario and choose what they think will make them happy. I have had family members receive offers in NYC, double what they currently make in Florida but when you budget everything out, making that transition to NYC would leave them in the red or not saving much more than they are currently.

      @@kailakaila I understand. I'm just comparing it to Georgia. I'm just here for school. I would consider staying, but I may move out to Texas which also has no income taxes and I'd get paid more and cheaper housing, and I'd get a backyard and not have to be so close to neighbors. Florida is awesome for the beaches, weather, and Disney though

    Is working in Goldman in Miami the same interview process as in nyc? Is it still as hard to get hired into if you’re in the Miami branch?

    • @kailakaila
      @kailakaila  4 роки тому

      Miami office is more asset management and private wealth management focused. I'd say its just as hard, if not harder, to get hired into that branch, unless you live in the greater miami area and/or have connections. Its a long interview process like the NYC branch.
