King Charles III receives Jewelled Sword of Offering and spurs to a Byzantine chant

- King Charles is presented with the Jewelled Sword of Offering and his spurs as the Byzantine Chant Ensemble sings a Greek Orthodox offering.
The Liturgical piece of music was requested specifically by King Charles III as a tribute to his late father Prince Philip of Greece.
This chanting suddenly brought serious holiness in the Church, something felt different
I agree
…even in his expression, the magnitude of such a sacred calling seemed to set in.
Yes, Thank you for putting in words what many of us felt !
Holy Orthodoxy
Yes. English church music is very good, but it rarely reaches the depths of despair and heights of elation that Orthodox music inspires. English music tends to have a lighter touch, suited to a people whose emotions are a little more restrained.

As someone who is half English and half Greek Cypriot, the meeting of these two traditions, both dear to me, really moved me. King Charles has visited mount Athos and has a collection of icons. It says approximately: “Lord God, protect the King and the Son of the King” followed by verses of the Psalms 71.
And it ends “Lord save the Emperor. Hallelujah. Glory to Thee, Oh Lord, Glory to Thee”
I wonder if this is not a hymn from the coronation ceremony of the Eastern Roman Emperors. I think is more than a homage to the late prince Philip….
It was the last hymn that played to Saint Sophia in Constantinople 1453 for the Last emperor Constantine Palelogos.
Of course it was more than just a tribute to Philip. It was chosen for that very specific moment he received the Sword. It's a very important and symbolic moment.
"Lord Save the King" it says 3 times. Not the Emperor. The ancient greek word Βασιλεύς (Vasilefs =King) started to be used also in the East Roman Empire at 7th century AD by the Emperor Herakleios. He was the one to lead the first ever crusade against the Persians that had stolen the Holy Cross from Jerusalem. At the same time Avars and Slavs attacked Konstantinople unsuccessfully. The nights of the siege a glorious hymn had written to honour the Saint of all Saints the Mother of God, which helped the defenders of the City to defeat the enemies :Τη Υπερμάχω Στρατηγώ.

When shit gets real, the Orthodox chants come out.
Pray that this King actually helps England and Europe... He needs to address the problems that Ethnic Europeans are going through
I love the fact that our chants are used for this but still remember guys, ecumenism is bad, I wish to see The King fully accept Orthodoxy one say
he never will as he is the ordained Head of the Protestant Church and guardian of the church in Scotland. It is a fundamental part of his Coronation.
But he was very clear he wanted this chant sung as a nod to his father. The oils with which he was anointed came from the same place in Jerusalem where his mother is buried.
@@1chish well, if one wants, one get, specialy as the chief of the church, might decide it, just like the russians converted to Orthodoxy, all at once, by the tzar's will, in the aprox.year 900 after Christ. That's the only option, since we, as ortodox, don't feel the need to have women-priests, nor iftar in our churches, not to talk about the novus ordo of the catholics, with their new rapp/trapp priests and so on. But was all just a show, nothing else.
@@claudiatalmaciu5062 Well we are a democracy unlike the Tzars of Russia centuries ago. The King is head of the Church of England (and guardian of the Church in Scotland) by UK Law. So unless parliament changes that law nothing will change.
