I love you guys throwing in a tutorial like this in every now and then!
I rarely comment on these kinds of videos, but I have to say, I loved this one! There were lots of images in here that spoke to me, and the advice is easy to implement right away.
Imagine how proud a Dad you'll be if she turns out a photograper like Chelsea. She's beautiful!
Very handy for a beginner like me - the little girl is so cute also!
I use white cotton curtains to diffuse light that comes from the window, works like a charm!
Thank you for sharing, very helpful! I love the way you work guys, it's always a pleasure to see your stuff. Stay well, be safe
That child is gorgeous!
That's a really helpful video guys. I'd love to see more short tutorials.
2:14 is a soundbyte that could come back to haunt you without proper context.
100th like! Yay!
If I'm not looking at the screen, I hear a gentle, wise old teacher who's teaching not a course but his passion and his craft...
Thanks for a great tutorial, short an to the point. Chris you are very good at conveying a crisp message
Lots of useful info in a short-clip. Excellent guys.
Very useful video! Thanks for continuing to educate and entertain use during the quarantine.
Thank you! Love good practical videos without fancy gear! Keep 'em coming!
Luv it!!!!!! Simplicity at its best!!!!! Thanks for that tutorial guys....time to practice now! 😊
I Love how they work together and the pace of the videos.
Thanks Chris. I must do more! You are an inspiration!
Thank you for the lighting tips. I rarely ever do portraits, but even when I do, it's of myself. I suppose now is a good time to get better at taking portraits of myself. My two favorite primes, that I own, are a 50mm f/1.8D,and a 60mm Micro f/2.8D, so I will start with those.
This is the kind of video that the photography community needs more of.
Love you guys. Learning online wouldn't be the same without you.
Some brilliant tips guys. Perfectly tailored for the current climate! More please ...!
Watched this again, prompted by your post about videos which didn’t do well. This is such great content! I enjoyed it first time around and watching it again I felt inspired to have a go at making some nee portraits of my family. Thanks guys
Loved this. Thanks!
Here from your six great episodes video! Really inspiring Chris, I'm going to try and organise an indoor shoot with my girlfriend using some of these tips. Cheers
An excellent technical supplement to David Thorpe's definitive video: A look at Portraiture, Naturally
Great job Chris. My profile pic was shot next to a large window with a generic vintage 50mm. I haven't been able to duplicate it better since lol
This is really worth trying! Thanks! Will see how it looks in my next video!
Its Time. Its Adventure.
Wow, thanks for this video Chris!
Hey I love these kind of "how to" videos. Can you all do one on astro photography?
Thanks!
Keep up the great work.
So beautiful! Thank you for this
Her eyes are really nice!
Totally brilliant.
You were right! We all missed out on this one.
very practical suggestions thanks
GRADITUDE for sharing some needed help with building team CHIAROSCURO!!!
Very helpful, thanks!
great video guys!
Great video. Thanks for the kind reminder released on July 2021: it worked 😉
Beautiful.
Haha, I love how the little girl is posing at 0:52. At young age she realizes her superiority already! :D
Hi, very good, down to the point. Could you do more of these, I used it to teach my kids, and they understood.
awesome !! thank´s so much
very good video!! Thanks you!
Excellent !
Great video for #lockdown and #socialdistancing days...saving this. These are concepts, and I'm determined to use them on my iPhone XS :-) and unwilling family members as models
This is amazing teaching technics even fore medium experieced photographers, thanks for that.
I guess pros knows it all :-) , but YT isn´t just for pros ;-) so thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Chris Jordan could you review the Canon m200 for me I would appreciate it thank you gentlemen you guys are awesome 😎💕
This video proves again how important the model is.
But we like buying new gear....4:46 is pretty cool...gonna try that..Thanks!
Step 1: have an adorable kid
Step 2: Have EOS R with 50mm f/1.2 L .......
It certainly doesn't hurt. :)
Mine is in the box.
Mine is in the box.
By chance did you mirror the image on the negative fill part?

@4;06 Most kit lenses are on average f3.5-f5.6 so using f8 is more of the sweet spot of many lenses! I feel like using f8 was slightly misleading.
Still good advice
A lot of people shooting with just the kit lens will have APS-C cameras, so we thought shooting at F8 gives a good approximation to the DOF most crop shooters will have with kit lenses.
What focal should be used for portraiture ?
You are cheating Chris. Of course the photos would turn out great! Your daughter is so CUTE!!! 🤩
That's exactly what I tell others about Chris Niccolls and Manny Ortiz: They're so good only because they have amazing models to shoot whenever they want. And they always have the latest and greatest gear 😜
What about the portraits of Chris himself? Is he cheating? Or is he so cute?
@@malek8736 okay. You are cute too Chris. 😁
@@JTan74 please, not just cute. So cute! 🙂
I love all of you!
And on the second day God decreed, "Let there be windows!"
I was thinking of buying a decent speedlight although they are so expensive but then I need to carry an umbrella and a light stand and then light attachment to soften and spread the light which cost more and is not practical for casual family photography.
DPreview.com needs to have an entire sample gallery dedicated to Maddie
Great tutorial...All you need is a WINDOW! :) THANKS AGAIN!
How is the black background side portrait achieved at home?
Subject looking straight out through a small window
Yah it's totally just about having one window open and the rest of them closed. House goes dark and will expose almost as a black background in most spaces.
How about some EXIF info on the shots?
I had to search "Rubbermaid" because I've never heard of this company before and I was curious about what Chris was hiding beneath this lid. I'm feeling guilty now for my initial thoughts and I should have known better.. A rubber maid is usually not something that you would showcase in a harmless instruction video...^^
Does this technique work with Windows 7?
No, sorry, you'll need to upgrade to Windows 10.
@@opalyankaBG Not the news I was hoping to hear. It's just that new virus going around makes me nervous. Haven't left my home page in weeks.
I see you not very bright, you obviously need windows 8.1 and upwards
The model deserves a better photographer 😁
would be great if you guys used brown hued folks in these types of videos.
"You can usually get a 501.8 for your system fairly inexpensively."
*Cries in Fujifilm.*
The XC 35 f/2 is $200.
@@opalyankaBG that's not a 50f1.8 in focal length, light, or depth of field. I'd take at least 2/3.
@@-grey it's a 52 and you don't really need the extra stop if you're doing this
Panny Boy S1H👍
Nature provides us Windows?
Windows? I have one.
... and for reference the article mentioned in the end of this video ... www.dpreview.com/articles/2851177109/how-to-set-up-a-diy-home-photography-studio
Rubbermaid lids....the lighting department in every camera store just silently screamed at the loss of sales. :)
Slick, efficient video. Thanks. Do all videos include a "Shot on Camera X" statement? Is that in a searchable metadata field?
That'd be a satisfying search for camera capabilities.
Finally, I got some actionable information here. Right on.
---------------
Edit: I had no idea. Didn't find anything from this channel, but plugging in my primary body got me feeling idiotic for having failed to seek these results before. Do it, y'all. No matter what you shoot.
Nice free advertisement for Rubbermaid
No, they paid us handsomely. :)
Yeah, Yeah, its all so easy when you have a great model.
I just wonder is the little girl get paid from the DPReview.
I mean this as a compliment but you look like Asian Rob McElhenney
Nature invented windows. 🤣
Nature provided us the windows? OMG, i was in a delusion since so many years....
yo who is the one person that disliked this just now wtf mate
Did One Person miss clicked? Why the 1 Dislike Down Vote?
your little girl is so much cutter than
you Chris
