    Tried adjusting, didn't work. As usual I went onto Toyota Forums and someone advised to actually remove the whole mechanism, this advice was listed as part of a previous Toyota advisory on the problems associated the back window not going down. Hey presto it now works! I knew there was power going to the motor because I could hear it clicking when I operated the button. Never had problems with rear wiper or heated window. One or two people on the forums mentioned the motor doesn't have that much power and struggles so good idea is to keep the rubber the window slides up along well lubed. Did this as well as spraying electrical cleaner on all of the connections and lubing everything else where appropriate. I really hope it's the last time I have to pull off that rear panel, removed several times previously when dealing with the infamous broken latch. Amazes me that Toyota make such great engines and transmissions but sometimes fall short on the peripheral stuff.

      Good info, Robb! I saw a TSB or something on removing it as well, but then I saw this slightly easier hack. I'm going to pin your comment so everyone knows that if the adjustment doesn't work, to go ahead and remove the device..... And I feel the same about Toyota ... except the 1zz-fe engine.

      anyway you could make a video of which locations you lubed up, as well as where you sprayed electrical cleaner?

    Another believer on board. Figured the window motor was kaput and prior owner just didn’t care to fix it, but this adjustment did the trick for both opening from keyhole and push button on dash. Many thanks, kind sir.

    If you’re in there with everything taken apart, spray some lube down the side of rails and all moving mechanisms to prevent sticking or tension. I repaired the latch once and since everything was open I sprayed PB Blaster White grease to lube it all up. Worked a lot smoother. Also cleaned all the gunk buildup from previous years and a lot of sand from beach adventures. 🤙🏾

    Great video, and the fix worked to get the rear window working again on my '02. Thank you - that saved me time and money! I have one question for you or your viewers. Presumably, this part serves some purpose, and the adjustment is also part of the design for some purpose. Does anyone know if there is a "correct" position to use? For me, I just pulled the part all/most of the way down, tightened it at that position, and it worked, so that's how I left it, but that seems a little arbitrary to me. Appreciate any feedback, and thanks again for posting a great time- and money-saving video!

    The one thing I’d add, if your window motor isn’t engaging after performing this fix, is to tap on the motor for the window lightly to free it up. There is a Toyota Service Bulletin TSB out on this as well.

I had to take mine apart to replace the rear glass (just $179 with free shipping) and needed the window to go up and down for that procedure so this was a lifesaver procedure. If anyone is having the issue with the handle not working well on the liftgate you can add 20 cents of washers to the cable and it will fix that also while you are already in there !!!

    Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. I have a 2003 Sequoia and the rear window hasn't worked for at least 5 years. Recently the rear door latch broke so I bought the part on line and had a shop install it. They were very helpful and when they put the door back together now the window works too. I was thrilled but when I went to lock the car instead of the regular one beep from the key fob there were two beeps. I just figured it was doubly locked. But it kept happening so I checked the doors and they were locked except the back door. It looks like the first beep locks the doors the second lot beep unlocks the back door. Do you think this is an easy fix? Help! Thank you!

    • @FamilyFriendlyDIY
      @FamilyFriendlyDIY  2 роки тому

      Hmmm. That’s hard to say. I’d try to take it back to the shop that did the repair and explain what happened. It sounds like something wasn’t installed correctly, but there is also supposedly a way to reset the computer in the back door that controls the lock/window. If they won’t fix it for free, you might try googling resetting the rear door ECU.

      @@crystalclearlightingelectr3263 Sorry to hear that ... the only other thing I can think of is the ECU in the tailgate. Before you buy anything, you can probably test a few things with a multi-meter. I'd start by seeing if the switch is sending power to the motor by testing the motor terminals when someone presses the switch. If you are, then you're right about the motor being the problem, but if you're not getting power at the motor, then it is a wire, switch, or the ECU.

    I have 2003 Sequoia (window won't roll down) and when I got to the point to adjust the brake mechanism I discovered there wasn't a brake mechanism there at all. Question is can I just buy the mechanism and replace it?
    Do I need the window brake at all more safe operation?

    • @FamilyFriendlyDIY
      @FamilyFriendlyDIY  2 роки тому +1

      Hmm. Good questions. I have the official Toyota manuals, and they actually don't even mention the brake, so I honestly don't know how it works. I have heard of people--even dealerships--removing the brake entirely. There are also limiter switches that can be reset/recalibrated to make sure the window doesn't go too far up or down. I could be way off, but my guess is that the brake was activated when the window was fully closed in order to keep it from creeping back down, and somewhere along the line Toyota decided it was unnecessary and problematic. If you don't have a brake, then you must have a different problem. It could be something a rear door ECU thing, which I think there are other videos out there on how to reset that ... If you exhaust all of the free stuff, it might actually be something like your regulator motor, but I really think that would go out slowly---getting weaker and weaker over the years. Sorry if this wasn't very helpful.

    Wow first time something so simple actually worked for me! Usually I follow these kind of things and it turns out to be something more expensive 😅

    I'm just trying this and it does make a click noise, but unfortunately the window is still stuck :/
    Edit: I banged on the motor a couple of times and now it works! Thank you!!

      Glad to hear it turned out okay. Some have said they had to remove the brake entirely.

      @@FamilyFriendlyDIY I did that too, but it didn't change anything. Even trying to manually move the gear didn't work. I think the engine was just rusty inside and some bumps on it helped it.

    Did you replace the moisture barrier? Could use butyl tape?

    • @FamilyFriendlyDIY
      @FamilyFriendlyDIY  2 роки тому +1

      I didn't have a moisture barrier. Just the black metal cover that had maybe acoustical caulk or weather-stripping (I can't remember which) around it. It looked like no moisture had ever been inside there, so I wasn't worried about it.

    Dang it. I went ahead and bought a new motor thinking it must’ve gotten weak and all it was is the brake adjustment. Thanks for the help. I will save the motor in case it ever does get weak I suppose.

    This works, when I closed it without the panel and tried to lower the window. When I put the panel back on it doest work tho. Any advice?

    • @FamilyFriendlyDIY
      @FamilyFriendlyDIY  3 роки тому

      If it doesn't work all the time, you can remove the brake entirely. I think there was a TSB from Toyota on it where they said the fix was to completely remove the brake.

      I'm not sure if it will work on a 4 runner--I've wondered that myself. I think I found the TSB in a forum somewhere. Thanks for the comments!
