I can’t tell you how grateful I am for this podcast today. I drive for a living and finding time to deep dive into the scriptures can be very challenging. This has answered a prayer that I’ve had for the past few months as to how to approach the Lord and plead for blessings from Him.
I hear ya and echo your same feelings. I'm a nurse and I drive to people's homes all day. This has become such a blessing to me to listen to while driving. And also has provided great council for me to follow and better understand.
I recently had a cool experience with these chapters. I had been wondering and studying for a long time about the meaning and symbolism behind stones. In D&C and Revelation we learn the white stone represents a name. I knew there was something more to this. Then during education week I was talking to my friend Daniel Smith. We were discussing the high priests robes. He wore 16 stones with 12 on his breastplate representing the 12 tribes. Daniel shared a cool insight that Jesus the high priest carries is on His shoulders and on His heart. It then clicked for me. It was super simple. The stones can represent us, sons and daughters of God. This is illustrated nicely with the Brother of Jared. The bother of Jared acts as a high priest and a Christ type: - He diligently searches and finds precious, white, clear, transparent stones (aka finds chosen people who are pure and clean) - He finds these stones in the ground and “moltens” the stones (we are fallen and Christ refines us in the furnace of affliction) - He did “carry them in his hands upon the top of the mount” (Jesus carries us in the palms of His hands and helps us ascend to the mountain/temple/celestial kingdom) - He arrives and presents the stones to God pleading on their behalf (Jesus will present us before God and represent us) -He acts as a mediator talking to God and parts the veil (Christ is our mediator and advocate before God; He parts the veil giving us access to God) -He lifts up the stones to God and God touches each lighting the stones (Christ raises us up from death before God and God gives us immortality, eternal life, and exalts us… lighting us) Additionally I see connections to our temple. We act as saviors and high priests. We carry a name (aka stone literally in our white shirt pocket over our hearts) up through the temple (mountain) presenting the name before the veil to God. There’s even more connections moving into the barges, across water, to the promise land, etc etc etc. The scriptures are beautiful! God is good.
In the beginning part of this while you ate talking about things that we ask for repeatedly but never get an answer for. I have prayed for years to be able to find a husband and children. But at some point, I was rereading the Bible amd I don't remember where but it basically said that if God hasn't answered your prayers then stop. It broke my heart. I remembered my patrorichal blessing and I desperately wanted to know if this blessing was ever going to happen in my life. The thought came to my mind that I needed to exercise faith and be patient. Next day I watched a video where a general authority talked about some times those things are promised to us will be fulfilled but it might not come in this life. I still struggle with that though but there was a measure of hope. As I listen this podcast and read the scriptures daily those assurances are further cemented. That brings me comfort. Thank you. ❤️
Keep praying Sister I also pray so I can have an eternal family and be sealead in the Temple is hard since im a single Dad raising two kids but I honestly think that Heavenly Father is going to answer my prayers and is going to be awesome because I know He has a better plan than what I can think of. Best whishes and grettings from Cancún Mexico.
You've taught before about breath or life or air... havah I love how the scriptures give us the same message again and again: I Am the Life. I Am the Light 🙌
The story of the “Great Iron Screw” that Saved the Mayflower came to mind while talking about the barges. Which also is part of the restoration story 😊
I have often thought that the experience of the Brother of Jared seeing the finger of the Lord has parallels to our day. I've heard of people leaving the church citing that they learned things on the Internet about the church that they should have been told about beforehand. They use this excuse to walk away. The Brother or Jared clearly had not even considered that the Savior had a body. If he had reacted the same as people today, he would have walked away saying, "Why didn't anybody tell me about this? I've been lied to all these years".
There is a UA-cam video by “The Brother of Steve” where he demonstrates why a hole on the bottom of the barge is important. Even submerged the barge does not take in water. The hole in the bottom creates a pump to circulate the air. Also, it makes mucking out animal stalls much easier.😊
Since I listened to this content I was filled of understanding now I do subscribed to your channel and wanted to listen to every words and understand more on this lessons.
You help me visualize the need for a hole in the top and bottom of the barge. But how in the world did all the animals, food, bedding, furniture, children and adults survive when the barge flipped over?? It had to be a long 344 day journey!! "Are we there yet?"
The holes in the bottom of the boat and the top of the boat were necessary. Unless they didn't eat or drink for the whole period of time, they still had waste. The hole in the bottom of the boat was to dispose of human waste. As long as the plug was at the top of the boat, they could unstop the bottom of the boat to dispose of waste. When they were on top of the water, they could unstop the top and receive air. I think there were a top and bottom of the boat, with food storage and water storage. There would have been injuries of some sort if the boat just all of a sudden flipped over. The Lord is a lord of order and mercy.
Something I'm wondering about that I'm hoping y'all can help with: it seems that a higher christology enters the BoM post Abinadi & Alma. Jared & his brother predate Abraham (and Moses) thus not influenced by the changing traditions and practices of ancient Israel...
Thank you for making the Book of mormon even more understood and precious 💖 to me
Awesome insights that I would have never thought of.

In the next life you'll get a much better man. Maybe a viking warrior or stripling warrior. But he will be a covenant keeper. There is hope!

My 2 favorite guys
Yes!!!
Mahonri Moriancumer is the name of brother of Jared as revealed to Joseph Smith while blessing a name to son of Elder Cahoon in Kirkland
Thanks for this message.

Yes
Is it logistically possible that Joseph Smith's seer stone could have been one of the stones the Lord touched?
Not likely. The brother of Jared carried up 16 stones (3:1) and came down with 16 stones (6:2) PLUS the 2 seer stones (3:23). But I love the thought.
The holes in the bottom of the boat and the top of the boat were necessary. Unless they didn't eat or drink for the whole period of time, they still had waste. Perhaps, but the context of drilling the hole in the bottom is very much in the “when thou shalt suffer for air…” discussion. Ether 2:20.
He was lectured for 3 hours. We had 3 hour church. I wonder if He didn't mean that they did not hold church for 4 years.

Question: I thought we had the name for the brother of Jared. Who is Mohonri Coriantumer?
