A souvenir is an item that is taken and kept or given as a reminder of a specific place. The word comes from French and means memory. Souvenirs are usually purchased for oneself, but also for others, for example on vacation.
In many holiday regions, selling souvenirs to tourists is a steady source of income for locals.
But “souvenirs” can also cause enormous damage when tourists take cultural treasures, rare animals, plants, corals or even “just” stones. Some states impose harsh penalties for the unauthorized export of such pieces.
It is often difficult to distinguish genuine cultural assets (e.g. antique pieces) from copies made specifically as souvenirs.
The term souvenir is sometimes used jokingly. For example, a sunburn can be an unpleasant souvenir from the sunny south, or even a pregnancy can be a lifelong souvenir. Souvenirs are not always available for purchase. Found objects such as flotsam, stones, etc. are often referred to as souvenirs.
Ein Souvenir ist ein Gegenstand, der als Erinnerung an einen bestimmten Ort mitgenommen und aufbewahrt oder verschenkt wird. Das Wort stammt aus dem Französischen und bedeutet Erinnerung, Andenken. Souvenirs werden meist für sich selbst, aber auch für andere zB im Urlaub käuflich erworben.
In vielen Urlaubsregionen ist der Verkauf von Souvenirs an Touristen eine fixe Einnahmequelle für Einheimische.
"Souvenirs" können aber auch enormen Schaden anrichten, wenn Touristen kulturelle Kostbarkeiten, seltene Tiere, Pflanzen, Korallen oder sogar „nur“ Steine mitnehmen. Einige Staaten sehen harte Strafen für die unerlaubte Ausfuhr solcher Stücke vor.
Echte Kulturgüter (zum Beispiel antike Stücke) lassen sich oft kaum von speziell als Souvenirs angefertigten Kopien unterscheiden.
Der Begriff Souvenir wird manchmal auch scherzhaft gebraucht. So kann zB ein Sonnenbrand ein unangenehmes Souvenir aus dem sonnigen Süden sein, oder gar eine Schwangerschaft ein lebenslanges Andenken bedeuten. Nicht immer werden Souvenirs käuflich erworben. Fundstücke wie Strandgut, Steine etc werden häufig auch als Souvenire bezeichnet.

In my videos, I mainly let the pictures speak for themselves. In order to reproduce the atmosphere as authentically as possible, the original sound is deliberately not changed, provided that no other music has to be played for copyright reasons.
In meinen Videos lasse ich vor allem die Bilder sprechen. Um die Atmosphäre so authentisch wie möglich wiederzugeben, wird auch der Originalton bewusst nicht verändert, vorausgesetzt dass keine andere Musik aus Urheberrechtsgründen eingespielt werden muss.
