Men remarry fast because they need someone to pick up after them. Women do not remarry because we refuse to ever pick up after anyone else again.

This was exactly my mom’s stance. She waited on my dad for 35 years and took care of him through a horrible cancer battle until he died at 62 and she was 57. Refused to remarry, tho she could have very easily. “I didn’t choose to be a widow, but now that I am, I like it.” She would also say, as soon as she’d get remarried, he’d get sick and she’d have to take care of him. She was strong and independent and enjoyed being a widow for 21 years. Didn’t have much but got by on her own terms. RIP Mama ❤

So true. My widowed mother in law’s benefit was reduced from $2,100/mo to $1,350/mo when her husband died.
Her life just got harder, everyday that she continued to live.

I am a widow, and because of a bladder injury from a drunk driver hitting my car head on 24 years ago, I am stuck with TRICARE, and if I remarry, I won't be eligible for Tricare. So there's that!

I just turned 62 yesterday. I am definitely thinking about taking my social security now mainly because I think it’s going to be raised to age 70 (or higher) - I worked 20 years for a company that will give me a pretty good pension in 3 years.

While I still have a life insurance policy, till it runs out, I’m worth way more dead than alive. After that loosing the spousal won’t make or break her. My SS check will be more than she currently makes working.

    • @janetmartin9372

You can taken survivors benefits as early as age 60. You can then let your own ss grow until age 70 and switch to your own
You can take your own ss as early as age 62 then switch to survivors benefits at your full retirement age t9 max it out.
Timing the switch to what is best in your situation. That way you have a bigger pay out.

I’ve been married 28 years. I stopped working about 23 years ago. Stayed home with the kids. Is it correct that I could take my Social Security benefit which is very small at 62 but if my spouse predeceases me later, I could potentially take the benefitwithout a reduction if I am my full retirement age by that time which would be 67 years old for me?

Children of men want their dads to get remarried. They secure all their fathers assets out of reach of a new wife and then they encourage their father to remarry so they don’t have to take care of him.
