My favorite Columbo is Etude in Black, but I also like the one where he is trying to catch the Police Commissioner and his friend. He is less quirky, more straightforward, more willing to show his feelings on the lies being told to him. He is still Columbo and his car is giving him lots of trouble, but he pretty determined in his pursuit of the truth.
I'm glad you picked up that set. If anyone should have that set it should be you. I hope to pick it up some day. Maybe I'll get it after I see a few of your videos breaking down each episode. That would be cool!
I love Colombo so much. Kino Lorber is so great. Such a great era of television represented. Did you know that Dirk Benedict played Columbo onstage in the UK a few years back. Would be fun to see. Merry Christmas 🎄 to you.
Columbo was very popular in Japan back in 70s. When I was a child, my mother and father used to watch this series on TV, and I watched it with them. I love all episodes but if I pick my favorite episodes, they are "Suitable for Framing", "Any Old Port in a Storm" and "Troubled Waters". Especially the last shot of "Suitable for Framing" is just wow.
Wow, so happy you mentioned your memories of watching Columbo. I love the episodes you mentioned too! It's so tough for me to pick a favorite since I'm enjoying them all so much.
Awesome set Dave! I saw someone review the set and they said how great it looks. I didn't specifically remember seeing episodes but when you mentioned, in the live stream, about an episode where he was trying to lose the raincoat his wife got him, I remembered seeing that episode. On the subject of mysteries, I picked up Sherlock season 1 on 4k at Big Lots for 6.99. of course, it's because of you mentioning trying to get Sherlock. Thanks for great stuff.
Thanks, I love it and now easily one of my favorite box sets. The episode where Columbo is trying to lose the raincoat his wife got him is so good and funny 🤣My wife and I are loving Sherlock too. We couldn't find any more DVD seasons (or any 4Ks) so we ended up getting digital copies on Vudu during a sale (all seasons for $20 I think). I think we will be watching those episodes over and over too.
I don't think I could name a favorite detective or tv detective. I've only seen a few detective shows, especially in this sort of vein as opposed to like typical network crime shows of this century. But you know I love Jessica Fletcher in Murder, She Wrote! It's so comical, too, because her profession is an author but then she finds herself going after culprits. She'll be like, "No, no, no, I'm a writer." :P Also I have to mention Special Agent Dale Cooper from Twin Peaks if he counts, that being my number one fav show! I'd love to get this Columbo set during a Kino sale at some point! I enjoyed seeing the random pics of the show you'd share on your IG story when you were watching it.
Hi Bailee. Oh, I'm glad you mentioned Twin Peaks which is also a top favorite show for me for so many reasons. Special Agent Dale Cooper is also one of my favorite detectives. I've so enjoyed watching Columbo because of Peter Falk and the character's pursuit of truth, his dedication to his job, his honesty and humor, so many aspects of the show. It is so well written in my humble opinion. Plus it's a new comfort show for me now. I'm sure I will get to Murder, She Wrote one of these days too. 😀
I didn’t know it’s on blu-ray. I was at Big Lots a few weeks ago and I saw the complete series on DVD selling for $20. There were over 30 copies on the rack. Each box set had over 30 DVDs but I don’t think it was on Kino Lorber
Hi Dave. I just got around to this review and have put this set on my wishlist. I grew up on 70's TV and have picked up a number of my favorite shows from that era. My most recent addition were the 5 season DVDs of Kojak, starring Telly Savalas, which was one of the first and best cop shows set and filmed in New York. (Season 1 was issued by Universal, while seasons 2-5 were done by Shout Factory.) A Blu-ray set for Columbo is quite a treat and I look forward to grabbing my copy. Thanks for the review.
I love Columbo, my #1 crime drama too (followed by Harry O, The Streets of San Francisco and Barnaby Jones) it can be watched again and again it never gets old even though I've seen it a million times, just so well-written and performed by all involved that it remains eternally intriguing. Hearing some mixed reviews on this new release, that it's kind of dark with wonky colors somewhat similar situation to what ultimately made me not get their release of Kolchak. The series will always be one of my top favorites, though. 📺
So agree that Columbo can easily be watched over and over again. I love Barnaby Jones too and the other shows you mentioned. I will look out for any issues but looks good so far to me, I'm just happy to have these episodes on Blu-ray. 😀
I'll be picking up the Blu-ray set soon. I'm currently watching the series via Amazon Prime because I wanted to try the show out before I bought it on disc. I have become enthralled with the character and the show; Columbo is up there with Holmes and Poirot for me.
Three’s Company is being released through VEI with the 2 spinoff series. It’s been released before but never with the 2 spinoffs. It’s nice to have a new release after losing Suzanne Somers
Columbo is probably my favorite tv-show of all time, along with Breaking Bad. I rewatched the seasons 1-7 recently and they’re still terrific. The plots were great but the key element in the show was acting, not the plot. In every episode there was a match between Falk and another great actor like Donald Pleasance, Patrick McGoohan, Cassavetes, Robert Culp or Ruth Gordon. It’s like watching a tennis match between two great players. Some say Columbo was based on the police characters in Crime & Punishment and Diabolique, but Falk made the character completely his own. (Christian Bale did a pretty good imitation of Falk’s Columbo in Amsterdam.)
Same here, easily my favorite detective show. Totally agree that Falk made the character his own and I love all of the guest stars and directors. Amazing that Patrick McGoohan directed some of the episodes too. I love the tennis match / tango aspects of the show.
Love it love it love it...but of my personal 5 favorite detectives...he is not nr1😮 My nr 1 = Sherlock Holmes. The series starring Jeremy Brett. Such an amazing actor too. Take care. Thanks Greetings from the Netherlands. What is your favorite episode?
Thank you! I love Playback. One of my favorites. But Etude...no,..many people like that. But for me no. Its does not feel like a Columbo. Somethings wrong with it. The dialoque etc😢 Does not feel right Take care

Great episode, there are so many good ones. Peter Falk is so good in the role and a joy to watch.

Thanks Steve. Oh now I’m tempted to do a series of Columbo videos 🤣

Very nice, Dave.🌟 Who wasn’t on Columbo over the years?📺. Etude in Black with Cassavetes is my favorite.🎼🎹
Thanks! So many great episodes and Etude in Black is definitely at the top of my list.
Love your video and Columbo too!!! Have a very Merry Christmas !❤

Columbo is America's answer to Sherlock Holmes,
So true 😀

Yes, the Blu-ray set is so well done in my humble opinion. Cool that the DVD set is out at Big Lots for such a good price.
