Named after the Prince Regent, the street was built in 1819 under the direction of architect John Nash and its Grade II-listed facades represent some of the most distinguished architecture in London.
When built, Regent Street was the original shopping street for the capital and has grown into a world-renowned destination that curates year-round memorable experiences that go beyond the world-class shopping. Its programme of events are globally recognised and include Summer Streets, Fashion Festival in September, and the switch-on of its iconic Christmas lights in November.
Regent Street's regency buildings are today home to world-class flagship stores including Tory Burch, Burberry, Coach, Kate Spade and J. Crew. While, tucked away in Regent Street's neighbouring side streets, are award-winning restaurants such as the Araki, Stem and Sabor. Wellness experiences can be found across the street, in the likes of Kiehl's and DryBy as well as Psycle and Rapha.
Surrounded by diverse and dynamic smaller streets, including Conduit Street, Mortimer Street, Princes Street, Great Marlborough Street and Brewer Street, Regent Street and the surrounding area offers a hand-picked blend of pioneering global names and independent brands that is unmatched. *Piccadilly Circus is one of London's most popular tourist destinations.
Sit by the famous statue of Eros (a popular meeting point), or take some photos in front of the iconic advertising screens.
From this location, you can easily walk to Piccadilly, Leicester Square, Shaftesbury Avenue * Leiceste Square is a pedestrianised square in the West End of London, England. It was laid out in 1670 as Leicester Fields, which was named after the recently built Leicester House, itself named after Robert Sidney, 2nd Earl of Leicester.
The square was originally a gentrified residential area, with tenants including Frederick, Prince of Wales and the artists William Hogarth and Joshua Reynolds. It became more down-market in the late 18th century as Leicester House was demolished and retail developments took place, becoming a centre for entertainment. Several major theatres were built in the 19th century, which were converted to cinemas towards the middle of the next. Leicester Square is the location of nationally significant cinemas such as the Odeon Leicester Square, Empire, Leicester Square, which are often used for film premieres (and the now closed Odeon West End). The nearby Prince Charles Cinema is known for its screenings of cult films and marathon film runs. The square remains a tourist attraction which hosts events, including for the Chinese New Year.
