That Wild Nacatal / Stone Forge / Boros Charm deck felt like the living embodiment of "33% of the time it works every time"
I thought this deck was just some kind of aggro/burn hybrid until they whipped out honest to jesus stone rain. What the heck was their plan!
Aaron Johnson Stone Rain certainly was nonsensical. Molten Rain would have made loads more sense as it’s an actual burn spell. Maybe they are running both?
In a weird way it was better than playing a more traditional deck. I had no clue what was happening or what to play around.
We need that playlist now and seth should play it on next stream! XD
@@MTGGoldfish that's how people feel when they play against you! A taste of your own medicine.
30:00 Seth actually feels that Boros Charm through his computer
RIP Ear users
as it always is, they never not have it
Match 2 game three when seth was so giddy about swinging in with progen and the elf only to come to the horrific and sudden realization that deflecting palm could be in his op's sideboard had me cracking tf up. I was in tears at how utterly terrified he sounded
As someone who plays deflecting palm (in burn) nothing makes me happier than to see a bogles players dreams shattered with it
evan cuyuch I was dying 😆
There was a match a long time ago where I ultimated Tamiyo to get Omniscience, played like 10 planeswalker, eventually Nahiri's for Emrakul to kill the opponent, only for the opponent to Deflecting Palm the Emrakal and win. Since then I *have* been utterly terrified of Deflecting Palm.
there is nothing as satisfying as casting a palm, having your opponent pause for a minute, look through their hand and curse under their breath.
Opponent on Naya Zooburnponza was playing the real against the odds
Don't forget the Stoneforge plan! It was clearly a vital part of their undersized Naya commander deck!
Came here to say don't forget the blade lol
That looked like Naya good stuff.

30:12 Next week “Against the Odds - Naya Zoo Burn Ponza with Stoneforge Mystic”
Alternative title: cardsilike.deck
I call it 'miniponza'
I call it Naya Trade Binder.
Not gonna lie, I love that deck. Just for the utter confusion in Seth's voice. 😂
"Boy Veil of Summer us a messed up Magic card" -Seth, while using it to full effect.
Vail of summer keeps control player honest that's for sure.
That's what made me realize is messed up it is :)
@@MTGGoldfish #BringbackAutumnsVeil
Game two is pure entertainment in this crisis. Thanks Seth for lifting my spirits and actually making me laugh. Now play that card binder deck next week! That would be funny. Come on I know you want to.
Damn.. that second opponent, the way seth was shaking... I was fully expecting opponent to go double manamorphose into cryptic
Shoutout to the "pile of cards" deck. I love building unpredictable shit like that.
30:06 "Waddaya got, opponent... OOOOOHHH, OOOHH, OH...."
Me: That, was hilarious 😂
Game 2 reminded me of the story of the worlds best chess player playing a computer designed to beat him. During the game, the computer made a seemingly random move that drove the chess champion nuts as he tried to determine why it would make the move. He was so puzzled by the move he began to believe it was a conglomerate of humans playing against him to outsmart him, not a computer. Turns out it was just a bad move as a result of a coding error.

Ok, the second match was priceless, just watching Seth go insane trying to understand what his opponent was doing
"What kinda of magic cards do you want in your deck?"
Round 2 opponent: "yes"
I laughed so hard watching the Random Deck match.
I’ve been going through a really terrible time with everything and other things, but this video is a wonderful and hilarious (boros charm) distraction. Love your content!
Hoping things get better :)
Glad you enjoyed the video!
I love how Seth gets mad when a jank deck that is not his actually gets good draws
I think this might be the first time someone beat Seth at his own show with that naya *gestures vaguely* deck
phazing9 UwU
It looks like the old Tribal Flames zoo without Tribal Flames and with Stoneforge?
Boros Charm, Destroyer of Seth
Seth? How could you not tell? Op in game 2 was CLEARLY on naya zoo ponza burn midrange storm. Its a VERY well known archetype.
Send that guy a T-shirt: "I made Seth quit magic."
Not gonna lie if that Naya pile of cards player actually played Deflecting Palm I'm sure the video would have went black and had a sign posted for technical difficulties.
Who else wants to see the deck list of the opponent match 2?
Christian Jensen me
"If opponent topdeck's a boros charm, I might just quit magic"
-🤣🤣🤣
Hahahaha omfg too good...
Noooo Seth! 45:11 you could've used klothys to exile a land from yard to play Atarka instead of scooping 😭😭😭 don't know how much good it would have done in the end, but maybe it would have been enough!
“Here comes Daddy!”
-Bearded Fish guy
Naya Pile is my new favorite modern sleeper.
Progenitus: I am an indestructible god.
Pack Rat: RATS. WE'RE RATS. WEEEE'RE THE RATS.
Everything about that top-decked Boros Charm was A+ content. I was laughing my ass off.
That thumbnail is art. Ilharg and Progenitus struttin' in singing Hakuna Matata is *chef's kiss*
Seth's giddy laughing is everything i need while stuck at home.
Thank you for the video. I'm a little sad stuck at home and had great news that there was a new video from you to watch. You're a hero!
Thanks for watching!
This was amazing to watching, loved it so much. Fighting through counters and a mash up of what lol the best and more.
Our opponent is refusing to die nicely 😂
I always forget that Veil of Summer isn't banned in every format. What were they thinking?
Facking blue, which I like :)
It makes me die inside
@@afk5112 It's a price I'm willing to pay XD
I also approve of giving oops all counters a taste of their own medicine
@@evraegrace7461 i made a deck that all counter land and 1 storm crow
Super sweet idea for the deck and great video As always Seth!
Thanks!
Match 2 opponent Living the Against the Odds lifestyle.
Murphy's Law said it best, "Professional soldiers are predictable; the world is full of dangerous amateurs"
"If opponent plays Boros Charm I might just quit magic."
MtgGods: "It is time!"
"If opponent top decks Boros Charm, I quit magic". Oh well! It lasted so long. We will miss you Seth.
“I *might* quit magic”
Seth going back to trolling us all with his pronunciation of amulet. I'm with it.
You can hear Seth's fear and pain in every syllable of amulet.
Boy did I laugh at the naya match, i'm in tears
Oh my goodness that boros charm player absolutely baffled me.
Absolutely loved that moment tho, amazing call by Seth.
I keep rewinding to when Safron realizes the other guy could play deflecting palm and I’m dying every time 😂😂
Progenitus is just a big True Name Nemesis :(
Honestly
That Jonny come Lately? Pishshaw sonny. Our True-name doesn't cost three and isn't a usueful creature type in a competitive sense.
It's big. It's hard to hit and it hits harder. And it has lots of heads.
Now. Quit your scatebosrding on my sidewalk. I have a WWII documentary to watch!
Big and hard to cast :)
UwU
17:48 well of course you it made you like veil of summer Seth, YOU were the one casting it!
Lol
That Nya Singles deck was wild. Lost it at the called shot Boros Charm. Then wincing at every worse possible outcome.
55:10 Since you know Klothys is on top (from Aether Gust), this was another opportunity to use a draw step stop for value. Klothys's trigger happens at beginning of precombat main, so you can get it a turn earlier than normal by Quicksilver Amulet'ing it during your draw step. (In fact, Klothys is a reason to have a draw step stop in general for this configuration, just in case you randomly draw her while Amulet's out.)
Imagine all these people this salty over free entertainment in a pandemic lol. Loved the video man, laughed my face off at the Naya match. Well played not taking the bait and waiting til they dropped Liliana in the Golgari match, that was a good read. Thanks for the smiles in tough times Seth :)
You know an episode of against-the-odds is going to be good when I immediately just start cracking up laughing uncontrollably at the thumbnail
Match 2 was absolutely hilarious. I'm wondering if they were on some kind of transformative sideboard plan... maybe? Possibly?
(0:00) Part of me is wondering if Spawnsire of Ulamog is bugged (and to a much lesser extent if The Unspeakable is bugged, despite having a fairly straightforward ability and there being plenty cards that also return a single card of a certain type each time from graveyard to hand, that are clearly not bugged).
But yes mostly wondering if Spawnsire of Ulamog is bugged. And therefore choosing to go with the most "thematically similar type of card/s" and that being Progenitus, which other than being very coloured is kind of "big powerful with weird and wonderful abilities Eldrazi-like".
.
[My vote was The Unspeakable, it just fit my criteria for what to choose best. Being older and generally unplayed since the beginning definitely was a factor in my consideration. If Spawnsire were as old as Unspeakable (for example), then I think my choice would have been more closely contested.
[Edit] Also sometimes I forget Against The Odds tends to be "four ofs". Even if that is clunky and less than ideal or perfect deck building. Mind you A deck with The Unspeakable as a "four of" is probably also weird and clunky and perhaps overly represented compared to if there were to be three or maybe even two copies of it hypothetically instead.
I feel kinda bad for Progenitus. It was supposed to be this giant super boss creature and got so powercrept by the Eldrazi it barely deserves a mention in decks that try to cheat those kinds of creatures. He's a cool commander, tho'.
Oh, and that Naya Pile deck was super cool, such a jumble of cards, I couldn't stop laughing.
That first match is a good demonstration why Veil of Summer is a necessary card. Blue is pretty much unbeatable with all the low cost counters, and green needs a way to fight through them
I actually don't mind Veil of Summer in older formats. I know other people disagree, but I actually like it in Modern. It was miserable in Standard though, probably because of the War of the Spark planeswalkers it protected.
Great games. Some odd stuff was happening at the end with the wrap-up though.
So glad to see the all counter bullsheit deck implode.
Do the other deck too! The eldrazi one seemed super cool 👌
I'm really glad that the novelty of pioneer has worn off a bit and we're back to semi-regular modern brews.
In the inevitable montage that marks Seth's entry into the MTG hall of fame, I hope 29:54 makes it in.
Ok who does the art for these videos? they are so good.
I actually really liked Naya Pile, seemed pretty good. I'm guessing the Stone Rain was sideboard tech against Tron?
I can't believe that people voted for Progenitus over something more interesting.
It’s because we were divided. The boors had a single point to penetrate.
Johnathan Harker UNITE US!
Johnathan Harker unite the clans!
I totally agree I think people just vote cuz they know the name. There should be card views with the vote so people could read how hard it will be before voting.
The straw poll shows spawn sire won with 32% of the votes unspeakable at 28% and prog at 17%
Someone should play "F Blue.dec", 4 Choke/4 Boil/4 Veil of Summer
Add quicksilver fountain in there to slowly shut off their lands :P
Nice :). Why not eldrami when opp had one tpped breeding pool
That Naya Bloodbraid list is similar to mine and I do pretty well with it at my LGS and GP side events. I think of as a more efficient burn list
That naya deck 👍👍👌👌😂😂
The thumnail killed me hahahaha I love it
Reminds me of the deck I built when he first came out. Turn 3 eot dramatic entrance, extend hand shake.
Seth please, I beg of you, play that match 2 deck on against the odds
I might have to put together the list and give it a try :)
@@MTGGoldfish I will do whatever necessary
is there an augment to split quicksilver amulet with thran temporal gateway to protect against surgical?
Really wish Seth got a deck list from the Naya Zoo burn stoneforge Stone Rain BOP BBE deck
Pile decks are great because half the time they dont work at all, but every now and then there are "perfect storm" games where you just have every possible answer you need at exactly the right time and you're just untouchable.
I feel like board the weather light would’ve been really solid for time of need as it hits amulet too
I like how the sidebar decklist just can't handle the awesomeness of Progenitus.
nothing better than watching your opponent getting wrapped up and squeezed up by Progenitus
Cool games thanks!
That naya zoo match was hilarious.
1:02:40 Seth talks like the old Godzilla dubs to subtly give his support of the new Ikoria card alters
Hmm.. No summoning trap? Seems like it would be a good fit for a deck like this.
This, I feel lacks the soul of against the odds. This isn't some cool and janky combo, or 3070 rhinos(cool concept that seems stupid but funny). This is your classic "I want to cheat in emrakul in a janky way" Except you aren't using the better creature. Same deck, same strategy, but worse cards.
I love your content as a whole, Seth; please don't take this as harsh.
Wish it at least used the Garruk for show and tell to justify progenitus over Emrakul.
Agreed tbh. Coulda played it in legacy with natural order
TBH I voted Prog cause I thought he was gonna hard cast it
Tbf you can’t purphoros Emrakul or Grislebrand
@@MWorl91 The one of though :'( The games are still making me laugh tho, Seth is a great content Creator.
What’s the upside of progenitus vs emrakul? There’s no dramatic entrance which would favor progenitus.
Progenitus here, probably better known as PRO-GEE-NITE-US
Wow, I would've never realized that quicksilver amulet would be an effective way to put a progenitus into play in modern. If you think the deck needs more of that effect I would consider thran's temporal gateway.
If Sigarda gives protections from sacrifice. Shouldn't progenitus not be sacrificable from purphorous?
30:07 The sound of getting janked out. #Shadowrealm
37:50 doesn't topdeck land just let you hard-cast Gisela?
Why not drammatic entrance too??
Alright, Seth, the real question: Arboreal Grazer or Boros Charm?
What happened to to Spawnsire of Ulamog against the odds? It won the poll from last week.
Actually Progenitus got third. Why have the poll if you're just gonna play whatever you want?
@@donnmurdock3425 The poll was complicated last week. We had the normal poll in the article, but also tried putting up the poll in UA-cam directly (ua-cam.com/users/postUgywjdq3iddNHiKiTZB4AaABCQ )
I assumed the results would be about the same, but they were actually way different (with Progenitus winning the UA-cam poll by a wide margin), so when you add everything together, Progenitus actually got the most votes.
Moving forward I'm going to figure out a way to get it back down to just one poll to avoid this type of issue. Sorry for the confusion.
@@MTGGoldfish Thanks for the explanation, sorry for kinda being a jerk about it. Appreciate the reply!
26:00 "eladrami's call" it's not a safron olive video without misnaming cards
Against that Golgari opponent with Liliana and no basics on board, fetching do-nothing Klothys instead of Magus seemed very wrong. Magus would've locked them out AND killed Lili
What is up with the end of the video?
At 27ish mins, should the Eladamri's Call been able to search for the Klothis? I thought it didn't count as a creature when its in your deck, I must be confused.
It's a creature SPELL but not a creature on board until the devotion requirement is met. It gets read as a creature as it comes in to play and before. But once it hits the board it's ability kicks in, which is the limiter related to RG devotion
@@MCBCHC27 interesting I didn't know that, cool!
funny, if I'm not mistaken, if opponent did end up having deflecting palm, you actually could have fizzled it by quicksilvering your other progenitus into play and burying the attacking progenitus lol
46:35 Mickey Mouse complaining about counterspells?
HAHAHAHAHA.
Best comment I've read on this video 😂😂
Just curious from the end of match 1, you said you wanted a Choke? Isn't that a nonbo with B Moon?
Sort of, but turning non-basics into Mountains with Blood Moon and Choking basic Islands is a pretty hard lock against Urza decks.
@@MTGGoldfish makes sense because he only had the one island. Good to know!! You rock
Wouldn't it be nice to add some thran temporal gateway?
If he plays a Boros Charm, I'm quitting magic.
- Seth circa 2020
Never heard saffron pull the take off the headset move😂😂 woulda done the same at that Boros charm play😂😂
It's happened on stream a few times :)
So if two creatures have protection from the other they couldn’t even block eachother? So a sword doesn’t stop progenitus?
That's right!
“Against the odds: Godzilla tribal” when?
Yes... 5 color kaijuu please make this happen!
