      Yay! Good to see you too! It is great to be back!
      Haha! Most 2 year olds are hooligans running around. Good news is that you can still read to her even if she is busy doing other things. What matters is that she is hearing you say the words in the book and she is still hearing language. Even though we all want that "picturesque" time with our child where they are snuggling with us and sitting in our laps while we read to them, the reality is, lots of kids learn better when they are moving around. So just because she is moving around, doesn't mean she isn't listening. Hope that is encouraging to you! :)

    I have been reading so many books to help my son with his speech. I felt like he wasn’t improving as fast as I had hoped but what you said about repeating the same words instead of trying to read word for word! Can’t wait to try this!!

    I love this video, just found your channel. My daughter is bilingual, I am Czech and only speak Czech to her, my husband is English and we live in the UK. I don’t have as many Czech books here obviously so I ‘translate’ some English books into easy Czech while we are looking at them or I just talk about what is on the pictures - pleased to seethats what you said in the video!
    We say a lot of rhymes as well and she likes those that include movement as well, clapping, stomping feet etc.

    My son is 10 months old and I noticed that whenever I read to him wordy books, he loses patience and ot gets frustrating for me because I want him to love books as much as I do. After watching this video, i Immediately tried it with him and I was so surprised that he sat on my lap peacefully and we managed to get through the book. The bonus part is I can go through the same book and find something else to "read" to him. Amazing tip Adrienne!!!!

    Hi, Adrienne!
    My 2 1/2 year old son loves the Tale of Peter Rabbit by Beatrix Potter. It’s our favorite book to read together. He points out “Petey Rabbit,” “rake,” “flower pot,” “Petey cries,” “white cat,” etc.
    Another book we enjoy is Blue Sky White Stars by Sarvinder Naberhaus. We discovered it at our public library and ended up purchasing our own copy. It’s colorful and inspirational with beautiful illustrations. There is so much to discuss on each page and I think it is a book that grows with your child.
    I love your videos, your calm and soothing nature, and your repetition methods. You are a joy to watch and I’ve learned so much from you. Thank you! 💕

    I use a lot of your videos to support my son development for talking especially using the tape. And i combine your technic with singing. He is now 2,5 years old, has a lot of more words and started to arrange it in sentences. i was worried as last year he barely speak. But now, i’m facing another problem. Our family has 3 native languages, long story short the big sister mostly using her English and my son starting to mixed Finnish, Indonesian and English in one sentence 😞

      Hi Emerlyn! You're most welcome! Glad my videos are helpful. Every time we repeat a word to a child, their brain is firing, and their understanding that their
      words connect to what their seeing visually repetition is so vital for them learning new words
      , so that's why I love to repeat the words.

      Thank you! So glad my videos are helpful! It sounds like you are doing a great job of looking for resources that will help your son learn to talk! You are definitely on the right track. After reading through your specific question, there are so many things that you can try to help your child talk more.
      In my UA-cam videos, I teach a variety of strategies to help children learn to talk, but in my online class for children, I teach much more in-depth, revealing the actual step-by-step system I use with my own speech therapy clients to get them from saying only a handful of words to talking in sentences and having conversations. My online class is structured with checklists and printouts where you can track your child's progress.
      So zooming out, my UA-cam videos teach the “what” and my online class teaches the “how.” The goal of the online class is to give you the skills needed to plug in the speech strategies into your daily life with your child and to implement the building blocks, strategies, and concepts during meal time, car riding time, play time, outdoor time, etc.
      Here is more info about the class so you can see if it would be a good fit for what you are looking for with your son. The Steps to Help Your Child Learn To Talk:

    Hello. May I ask your opinion on what age should a kid learn a second language? Should it be from birth or when they are still learning the mother tongue or when they already somehow get the hang of the mother tongue? Thank you so much for all your videos.

    Hello Adrienne, I’ve been watching your videos and I love all the ideas and tips, are very helpful. I have a question, My 20 month old is still not using words, he 'talks' a lot in his own language, and I notice is very smart and have learned a lot on his own (even walking and eating with a spoon). The pediatrician told us it could be because he has a younger brother (my youngest is 6 months old) and maybe he has a delay related to wanting attention or feeling like a baby again. Could that be the case? Should we look for a specialist? Thank you so much!!

    • @LearnWithAdrienne
      @LearnWithAdrienne  4 роки тому +1

      Hey! So glad you are enjoying the videos! That is interesting! Usually I hear that the oldest child is more talkative than the younger child (because the older child tends to speak for the younger child when they can't talk yet). It sounds like you are doing a great job of looking for resources that will help your son learn to talk! You are definitely on the right track. After reading through your specific question, there are so many things that you can do to help your child talk more.
      My UA-cam videos show lots of strategies and techniques, but my Online Class brings it to the next level by walking you step-by-step through the exact building blocks of communication that I take my speech therapy clients through to help them go from only saying a handful of words to talking in sentences. The Online Class is way more structured than my UA-cam videos, including checklists and ways for you to track your child's progress.
      If you are unable to look for a specialist during this time with speech therapy assessments being delayed, I recommend you look into my Online Video Class called "The Steps to Help Your Child Learn To Talk." The goal of the class is to give you the skills needed to plug in the speech strategies into your other daily life with your toddler and to implement the building blocks, strategies, and concepts during meal time, car riding time, play time, outdoor time, etc. You can learn more about it here and see if it would be a good fit for you and your child: www.learnwithadrienne.com/steps-to-help-your-child-learn-to-talk

I’m aldo going to look through your online courses, it would be better, because right now we are not going out or looking for a specialist in town (at least for a month or so). Thank you!!! You are amazing, and congratulations!!

    Hey thank you for the helpful video. I have a question. Both of my younger two love books (3 and nearly 2). My nearly 2 year old does exactly what your son does. Turn the pages quickly and do things at his own pace while my 3year old will sit and listen to the story quietly and want to hear every word. How do I cater to both? I would love to read to them together.

    • @LearnWithAdrienne
      @LearnWithAdrienne  4 роки тому

      Hey! Perhaps try reading to them while they are both seated and eating a meal or snack. That way, you have control of the book and turning at your own pace. Or keep a book or two in the car and make it a habit of reading the book to them right after you get them buckled into their carseats. Just some ideas! :)

    Hi Adrienne! My son just turned 3. He has always had a great attention span and he is raised bilingual. But he does not want to speak in sentences unless we ask him to. When I encourage him to say a whole sentence then he can say 3 or 4 word sentences. Especially when he only has to repeat after me, but he doesn't want to use them if not necessary. Any ideas how to encourage him to speak in sentences more? I'd be super grateful! Thank you for your videos!!

      Hi Evamie! Thanks for sharing that. I recommend having a Speech-Language Pathologist evaluate your son's language skills. He is at a perfect age to get help from a speech therapist...the sooner the better. Google "early intervention speech therapy + the state you live in." Call the number and say, "I am calling to schedule a speech evaluation for my 2 year old son who is not speaking yet." They will help you from there. I know it is scary being a first time mom. I hope this helps and you get the support he needs to help him communicate. Best wishes!

    Hi Adrienne, I would like to know your opinion about the language in the book and the oral, here what I mean: I do speak in Russian with my child who is bilingual (Russian and Italian) however the books we have are not only in Russian but also in English and Italian. After reading through your specific question, there are so many things that you can try to help your child talk more.

    Any tips on how to keep the attention of a full of energy 16 month old boy? Every time I try to read with him I can never keep his attention for too long

    • @LearnWithAdrienne
      @LearnWithAdrienne  3 роки тому

      Google “attention span for 16 month old” and you’ll find that the average attention span at this age is a lot shorter than you’d think. That said, even if your child is super active, you can still read to him...I do this with my son when he doesn’t want to sit and read...I still read the book aloud and it still counts as reading time ☺️👍🏼 Sometimes he pops over to look at a picture and then goes back to playing. Also, try reading when he is eating. That way he is already sitting ☺️

    When is a good age to start reading to them? My son is 16 months old and he is not interested in being read to yet... He just wants to grab the book and throw it to the floor 🤷🏻‍♀️

    • @LearnWithAdrienne
      @LearnWithAdrienne  4 роки тому +20

      Babies can be read to starting from birth, but now is also a great time to start with your son. Most kids have trouble sitting still and reading. Good news is that you can still read to them even if they are busy doing other things. What matters is that they are hearing you say the words in the book and they are still hearing language. Even though we all want that "picturesque" time with our child where they are snuggling with us and sitting in our laps while we read to them, the reality is, lots of kids learn better when they are moving around. So just because they are moving around, doesn't mean he isn't listening. What if you started reading one book every time he sits down to eat a meal? That way, he can't grab the book and throw it. Would that work for you?

      Don't give up Sarah! I recommend researching the attention span of a 12 month old. 5-10 minutes is a LONG time for a 12 month old. You're doing great! You don't need to read for a long time, you can read books at different times throughout the day. Her attention span is within the normal range for her age :)

      Sarah Davis check with your local college or university, a lot of them have student run programs for speech therapy and kids with autism that are either free or very affordable. You may have to go a little farther out depending on where you live, but it’s definitely an option. Also a lot of states have free programs for speech therapy (in Georgia where I live it’s called Babies Can’t Wait) so it’s good to go ahead and get on the waiting list for those. I think it’s great to continue to work with your child at home, but there are so many programs the lack insurance covering it shouldn’t stop you from getting them professional care.
