The BS about recumbents not being able to climb is largely the result of both builders and riders way overgearing their recumbents. My stock RANS Rocket came equipped with gearing that would hve put Lance Armstrong on the injured list! I never cease to be amazed at how poorly most cyclists understand and utilize gearing. Far too many spend a fortune on a bike and then wind up only usingthe lowest and top three highest gears. I swapped out my Rocket's huge chainwheels for a mountain bike triple and a 9 speed 11/34 rear cluster and I could climb the side of my barn!
Very dangerous road. Very narrow, no shoulder and blind curves. Be careful out there. Use super bright front and rear blinkers even in daylight. Wear bright day glo clothes.
Wow That's quite fast. 10% 11 km/h! Congratulation. They say that the Phantom lightning 38 is a good climber. I ride a Bacchetta giro and I love it but when it comes to climbing it's really tough. I'm happy when I make 7 km/h when I have 9 to 10% climbing.
Nice effort mate , the last fella in the cruiser looked a bit close and he had a tad more room he could have given you :( , or was it just camera perspective ? Nice location/scenery , traffic looks a bit of a pain though . all the best to you mate .
There’s a place in Oregon called Bald Mountain and when I first read the title I thought…oh Oregon. Yay! Then I realized that the cars were on the wrong side of the road. Plus the trees don’t look as if they belong on the set of a vampire movie 🍿
Go for Lightning P-38, are one of my dreams and pray for it, wanted also to trade or swap my either Rans Rocket or Tour Easy. God is so good He gave me R-84 instead for a fraction of brand new price.
@mikhail gorbachev not to worry for now. I trusted Lightning Cycle Dynamics in Lompoc, California I also bought my R-84 onto Offerup indirect to factory which is $6k+
That's some AWSOME conditioning mate!
Just goes to show that it is not the bike but the power of the rider that matters.
The P-38 is a legendary climber. I like your headlight!
Inspiring. The paved road up to the top of our village is 12% and that's a chore for me on a 500 watt e bike in the highest assist level.
Can’t climb like you but love my P-38. Thanks for representing!
I'd love to see a downhill vid wid this bike
Good effort. Your breathing sounds like mine when trying to set a PB on my P38 up my local hills.
That’s some climb. I have a lot of work to do. Thank you for sharing this.
Wow looks good.

It's not about the bike. It's the engine.
Good job.

Impressive
Nice Job!

which country this is in please?
I hope my new ice trike can climb like this

Yes the Cruiser was very close mate. I shook my head but no shouted profanities. It is a great climb, but I don't do it often because of the traffic.

That is a challenging climb. Great work Paul! What is the total weight of your bike including all accessories?
I'm very confused. The signs look US, but the side of the road you're riding on looks UK.

I don't think that I can do more than 3 km/h on a hill like that on my Rans VRex.
The V Rex is way overgeared as it comes from the factory. Gret for Kansas, not so great for any but the youngest/strongest riders in hilly country.
E-trike?
No it is a Lightning P-38 bike - no e-assist.
Some drivers drive too close. That is not nice
