I feel like the Secret Lairs and Universe Beyond sets have really stoked those collectors who like the individual IPs. I am sure Fallout had a crazy following. I have the Adventures in the Forgotten Realms on my list b/c I love DND & Faerun specifically. Are you actively collecting all the variants as well?
@@packingthegathering1260 I only have one of the serialized cards and will not get any others unless I happen upon one in a pack. But yes every other card in reg and foil. As well as the art cards
Collection: I should be getting a box of set boosters of Phyrexia All Will Be One. Which book are you on? I am about half way through Brothers' War. I think that I will do Planeswalker next then skip ahead to Thran. I haven't ordered the others from the Artifact cycle yet. Also just took up a new hobby, alters. I am not a painter, like at all, but it's kind of fun to try something new.
I love all thing Phyrexia. Will be a nice set to have. Do you seek out all the variants as well? Borderless, full arts, foils, promos, etc? I am on The Brothers' War (2001) but only on about page 90 or so, just under a quarter of the way through. I've read all the books from the first to here and plan to keep reading them in order until I catch up. I have Dyslexia, so reading is difficult at times. But I slog through it. The Artifact cycle books are popular and seem to demand a high price than the others. GL on the painting, I've owned a few in my time but not at the moment.
I started in September to Build my old Deck. Bought a Mox Sapphire from IE, a Sorceress Queen from AN and an Unlimited Nightmare. Looking for an Demonic Tutor and an Icy Manipulator Both from IE as next objects:)
September was a light month for me. Work took over and didn't leave much time/energy for searching. Picked up some Beta (un)commons, a batch of Weatherlight, a few boosters for the pack set collection and random condition upgrades on the replacements list. My Weatherlight set copy of Lotus Vale should be in tomorrow if the tracking data is to be believed.
I had a rough Sept as well. You seem to have lots of targets on your radar, exciting! I have one single Beta card in my collection. I picked one up so that I would have an example to benchmark any others I came across and haven't seen one since. I do actively collect Unlimited though but like quaternary priority at best, more like 6th place lol. Next month I'll have a single Unlimited card I picked up but it is nothing special. Hope your October is better!
I'm particular about the conditions on things is the problem. Can't just pop on and buy anything listed. I have to look at a lot of things at once to come across the small subset that is in the condition I want at a reasonable price while its up for sale. For the older stuff I always want photos because some people have wildly differing opinions on what makes a NM card. It's also why the replacements list exists. Some things meet the condition definition I bought them as and are good enough as a placeholder but I'll replace them if I can find a better copy. In reality I'm only ever working on 2 sets at once. Weatherlight has been relatively easy to find NM copies on things (only a dozen cards left there). Beta is very hit or miss. They seem to come up in waves that I suspect are just parts of a single collection that someone let go. Can get pretty boring if not much is coming up for sale.
I get it. I am the same way. On my favored sets I even record a subgrade. Mint > NM+ > NM > NM- > LP+ and so forth. I’ll occasionally hit up ABU Games as they are one of the few who list Mint as a condition. But beware and look at photos I’ve received clear NM labeled as Mint.
I do really like ordering mint copies from ABU. All of the ones I've ordered looked great in the pictures and came in looking just as good. I was suspicious of some based on the pictures and didn't end up ordering them. Based on what you're saying I'm glad I didn't.
