    Good info - thank you. Had a ProSeries 2500 that failed in 6 month - was replaced under warranty and now wondering why it broke again so I am researching the issue. The 5 year warranty sounds great. Thanks. Because you mentioned the piece that fell out - I was able to put it back in and then finally the manual worked. Oddly - it only worked when I put that same piece upside down. The manual wrench turned like butter but when I put it back in properly to allow lid to refit - the wrench would turn NOTHING. Must of been a gear underneath that was glitched. If you had not mentioned the piece that fell out - I may not have even noticed it had fallen. TY You can't get a Bulldog Reese for that same price but the 5 year warranty or purchasing a warranty is a good idea. These jacks fail! Thanks for info - very helpful.

    I had similar issue but definitely different. The grating sound gave it away in your case. A shear pin failed in my case I suspect due to bottoming out the jack foot on the street as I came out of a gas station.

    Cheap as they can make it. Those teeth on that gear are not hardened. If you knew a gear cutter you could get them to cut you a new one out of 1040 steel and then heat treat it and it would last until the year 4785. Gear cutters are expensive though. Are used to have drive gears and pinions (the small gear), made for overhead cranes. I had a couple of machine shops that had the equipment to do it. It’s built to fail so you have to buy another. Thanks for the video.

    Hi Tim: I have the same tongue jack. When you got your new one, diff. mgf. , how did you know whether the 3 bolt pattern that mounts to the frame would match for bolting the new one on Thanks

      Hi Wanda, if I’m not mistaken, the three hole triangular pattern is standard on most if not all camper tongue jacks.
      I hope that helps!

    What kind of grease is used inside there by the gears?

      Hi Sue- I don't know what type of grease the manufacturer uses. I would think any type would work fine though. -Tim

    Where are the fuses at on these? Mine doesn’t have an inline one and I have the same Jack.

      It’s been a few years since I posted this. I don’t recall if there was a fuse in-line or not. Regardless, it wasn’t a fuse issue in my case.

    I have RV jack stuck at fully extended. It won’t retract. Switch is fine. Tried the manual lever. It will retract to certain level then stop. Switch would work both ways but stand will only go up but not down. Can hear the motor working both ways by the switch.
    Do you think it’s adjustment issue or maybe the stand is stuck at fully extended position?

      I'm not super familiar with the inner workings of the jack, but my GUESS would be that when it extended (up) it may have "hyper-extended" beyond the stop point of the gear. I'm guessing that the gear is now out of contact with the drive mechanism and therefore won't go down since it's not engaged. I seem to remember seeing another video on UA-cam on how to totally disassemble a tongue jack. You may have to remove the entire tongue jack and take it apart on a work bench to get to the heart of the matter. However...you may find, like I did, that you might need an internal part, and they may not be available as a separate component. That is why I ended up buying a entirely new jack (with a longer warranty). Good luck. Keep me posted what you discover.

    Both the light and the jack operation work intermittently however when the jack does not extend or retract the light also does not work. Anyone have a solution?

    i have a 2 year old electric tongue jack and the power jack will not go up but will go down. do u think it is a switch

    • @tipabr
      @tipabr  2 роки тому

      I think you're right, that it's probably the likely culprit! If it operates ok, but just in one direction, I would try replacing the switch first.

      @@tipabr is the part number on the switch. or are all RAM jacks the same switch

      @@christiannihls5408 If you can't find the exact replacement through the manufacturer, maybe something like this would work: www.amazon.com/IndusTec-Wired-AMP-12V-Reversing/dp/B07TWNBCJM/ref=sr_1_9?keywords=12+volt+3+way+switch&qid=1651783645&sr=8-9 I just searched "3-way 12 volt switch" on Amazon. I wish I hadn't thrown out my old electric jack, I could have pulled the switch from it and sent it to you 😞
