- Super stoked to share these Unique Humbuckers that pick up not only the strings but also the body vibrations of your guitar
Pickups are available here...

So happy to finally get these pickups out into the world :)
That guitar that fell off the rack took scatterwound to a whole new level... seriously, I subbed today because your head is exactly where mine is on pickup tweaking... thanks, mate
Thanks!
Man if there was a 7 string version I would so be in !
So, sounds like potting level is actually the feature---enough to stop howling, but enough to transmit body resonance.
The body resonance thing is legitimate. I have had single coils that do this, a couple humbuckers and 1 tele bridge pickup. I would love a noiseless strat and tele set with the body resonance feel.
So sweet!
Great video about those pickups. Guitar sounds great! Is there a video somewhere that focus on that whole guitar?
Everything your explaining is how I feel about semi hollow non f-hole guitars with mini humbuckers. What about wax-verse non waxed potted pickups, wood density etc. Have played around with options and found similar feel/response?
They sound great.
Thanks!
This is a cool idea for sure! Got me thinking how I would engineer this myself, although I have no aspirations of producing a product to sell.
It's an interesting concept. One of my favorite guitars is a totally modded Yamaha I built with a gold anodized pickgaurd. I've noticed that the pickgaurd is very loud in the P90 pickups (like if you scratch it with the pick). I suspect this probably has a similar effect as it's also resonating and vibrating. It makes me wonder how it would be if you coupled the pickups directly to the body too, maybe put blu-tack behind them instead of springs or foam?
Not bad pick ups 👌
cheers!
I think you mean "amplify body vibration" not "body resonance" (which isn't a signal, but a property of the body). Otherwise-cool to learn about this aspect of pickups, and to hear the McPherson Echo Coils.
How did you control how microphonic the pickup is?
Boundary effect. Does it need an interface or mic amp? If l was to tear one apart, would l find a PZM inside?
No it's just a passive magnetic pickup built like they used to with some modern ideas to make it more stable, cheers!
just HOW do they amplify body resonance without being microphonic, please? 🤷♂️
How much per pickup? Will you make a single coil?
They are on our site here

Will definitely look at making Single Coils in the future, thanks!
Sorry, I'm being a wet blanket here (and this is nothing to do with how they sound - they sound good), but what is your theory as to how an electromagnetic interaction (strings moving through the magnetic field exciting electrons in the coil) is affected by the properties of the material that they are housed in?
Stay tuned, all will be revealed..... well maybe not all, but more for sure :)
I'd be interested to know this also. The only thing I can think of is the coils are slightly moving or loose, so the body resonance is moving them which can alter where they sit in relation to the vibrating string and magnetic field
The electrodynamic effect is beyond theory. Fe metals create eddy currents that roll off the high end, as is also true with Fe in the coil core. The permeability of the core metal increases inductance, and draws flux lines more down through the coil to substantially increase efficiency. FI, Steel poled pickups of the same inductance and flux strength as AV poled have higher output due to the much higher permeability. None of that will transduce body resonances.
Pickups can be microphonic, you can yell into them and amplify your voice. if the coils are not wound tight
and not enough wax.
@@greggsteven1028 Sort of what I was getting at.
So that basically means they are microphonic? I can see that being a bit controversial.
In a way yes, but far more stable, thanks for checking out the vid :)
A set costs 410, but the individual pickups are 132? Have a feeling it's not supposed to be like that
Thanks for letting me know, the site geolocates when people enter and it sounds like it may have been bouncing between our currency (NZD) and USD.
Once thing are in the cart they should all show that same currency, cheers!
We'd have to hear a direct comparison to standard HB's of the same specs to hear the difference. Either way, there's no way to know the phase relationship of the body resonances to string vibrations. The effect could be additive, subtractive, or anywhere in between.
just HOW do they amplify body resonance without being microphonic, please? 🤷♂️
Future video for that one :)
