Enterprise had real potential to the best Trek series of its time but squandered it with such uneven writing it made even Voyager blush. I like only certain episodes and concepts from both the first two seasons and always felt somewhat annoyed about all the new species of aliens ENT introduced only for them to be nowhere to be found in future series - especially Dr. Phlox species, the Denobulans. They're great and all, but they should have been an existing Trek species, perhaps one mentioned but not seen in TOS or TNG.
Season 3 is kick-ass. Archer's very morally gray actions serve to demonstrate that like the theme song goes, "It's been a long road, getting from there to here". He does things no other Star Trek captain ever would, and that makes him flawed, and that makes him believable.
In regards to season 4, in many ways it feels like what Enterprise should have been in season 1 without so much of the BS episodes that are wasting everyone's time being TNG or Voyager 2.0. It is a shame the show didn't get a fifth season, exploring the purposed concept that T'pol finds out she is half Romulan and that is why she had such trouble being totally Vulcan and the NX Class getting a refit to make it look more like future Trek hero ships. That said I can understand why ENT was cancelled. People were getting tired of Star Trek retreading ground vs being new and original. I didn't feel that way but I also liked Voyager when it aired and was obvious to its numerous flaws at the time.

Although it is true that Vulcans do have emotion and simply choose to suppress it, too many actors allows their emotion to bleed through in their performances. Story Time - It was the year, 1970. I was 7 years old, sitting in front of a 13-inch color television, my families very first one. I turned on one of the 4 channels we had, and there it was, Star Trek. It was then, I knew my life was going to change. The number of repeats I have watched, over the next 53 years, are MASSIVE. Since the availability of watching all shows, of all seasons, I am somewhere near 22 times. 22 times I have watched, every episode and every season of ST, ST:NG, ST:V, ST:E and ST:D9. Funny enough, that's the exact order I like them.
When I speak of Star Trek, it is with LOVE. Pure and simple. It has been a part of my life more than anything other than my parents. Even at my age, I have left behind scheduled TV. Each year, sometimes twice a year, I will rewatch every single episode of all the Star Trek on my list. Yes, like most, I have removed ST:D from my timeline. I have only added ST:SNW and Picard S3 to my list.
I have learned, through the decades, to try to keep each Star Trek in its own bottle. I watch them as if I have never seen any Star Trek at all. Why you say? Because there is nothing to take away the wonder of each Star Trek I watch. No timeline problems, no lore issues, just pure Star Trek.
Enterprise or Star Trek:Enterprise if you will, in the beginning had all the right people and all the right types of shows. As a lot of TV was doing at the time, they were trying to move to a more seasonal theme, an overarching storyline, which was a giant mistake. For those normal fans, still watching appointment TV, if they missed an episode they would get lost, miss too many, then they just stopped watching, and I think THAT'S what TRULY happened to Star Trek Enterprise.
I am going to pretend OR didn't say that Sisko was the G.O.A.T of Captains. I chose to believe he was tried and on MUSHROOMS. Have a good one. The End.

I'm going to say it... Enterprise was my favorite Star Trek series. For some reason, it really clicked with me. The ships are all perfectly designed (at least the ones that aren't just reused CG models to save time and money), the characters are more raw and human, closer to reality than the utopian crews in other series, and when they finally bothered to get to worldbuilding they did a great job at it. Jeffrey Combs as Captain Sharon - another actor would have been interesting to watch, but Combs put so much character into his portrayal, it really brought the Andorians to life. You notice that Andorians are barely in Star Trek before Enterprise, just showing up in background crowd shots at most, and because of Combs doing such a great job fleshing out the personalities of Andorians, pretty much all Star Trek since then has Andorians front and center.

The questionable actions taken by Captain Archer had far greater ramifications than just the preservation of Earth. The survival of the galaxy or at least a good sized portion of it hinged on the success or failure of the Enterprise and her crew. Had they not succeeded in their mission, hundreds, perhaps thousands of civilizations would have been wiped out in a mass genocide perpetrated by the sphere builders. Weighing these few questionable actions by Archer and his crew against the horrible consequences of failure, his actions are damn near negligible by comparison.

It's criminally underrated. I like many of them to much to say one is my favorite but I will say the acting, plot, and story telling were top notch. I usually hate shows that go backwards so that's saying something. Like I still loath the early seasons of discover but they did a smart move in the time jump of classifying it all into never having happened thus the plot issues were fixed. Just... the Klingons man, no. Anywho Enterprise was awesome.

I think it was bad because whenever I talk to anyone its always the same episodes they remember. Mirror darkly and they lump the entire Xindi arc together so its nostalgia and action. Enterprise doesn't have episodes on the level of Measure of a man, Inner light, Tapestry, Darmok, Duet, Waltz, The wire, In the pale moonlight, The cloud, Timless, message in a bottle.... basically if ships are not blowing nobody cares with enterprise. All the other shows had sweet action stuff but they also could make a good episode about characters talking.

#OrangeRiver -- Unable to find its own voice due to its replication of established Trek, “Enterprise” chooses to keep things superficial, often sacrificing deeper narrative for action and opting for triviality by doing so. These filming issues may occur when spineless producers and executives get cold feet regarding Art in a franchise that may no longer turn a profit (“Star Trek: Voyager” was declining at this time). As a result, creator and director agency flies out the window while squeamish, paltry writing sets in.
Directorial decisions made under this duress often result in horribly bad plot and character design choices, such as Captain Archer’s “whatever it takes” XD (you read my mind) attitude, a devolution of the wonderful “cowboy diplomacy” of Kirk, the former leaving the audience with a bad taste in their mouths. Furthermore, Enterprise completely betrays Trekkies’ understanding of Vulcans and their truly… fascinating… unemotional nature, devolving them into emotional and illogical in their behavior. Whether these choices were made with writer freedom or not, they fail to improve on past Star Trek iterations or leave any wisdom or moral in the viewer.
Unable to incarnate any memorable characters, such as the majesty and masculine leadership of Picard, the positivity and selflessness of Janeway or the heartfelt determination of Sisko, I struggle to remember the names of this Enterprise crew; they fail to leave a lasting impression or inspire me. However, "Enterprise" IS still legitimate Star Trek. In keeping with its legacy, "Enterprise" attempts to address current themes in culture and society, and does so over the course of four seasons. Sadly, its underwhelming and unengaging subject matter is hardly ideal for non-Trekkies, leaving the show squarely in fan territory alone.

I personally was just sick of prequal's about Star Trek. I was one of the many who wanted sequel edition's added to the franchise. I will say that Star Trek Strange New World's has really made me happy they stuck with it in this particular series. It also helped that they did move forward with the series Picard which is what many of us had been waiting for. I had very little I was not happy about when it came to that series. I was not that big a fan of the whole "Son Of Soong" character and really hated that they just slapped the name Enterprise onto an older ship and not a new updated flag ship but it is what it is. These are little gripe's so maybe not worth a mention but the big gripe's would be the unfinished explaination of just wth was trying to punch a whole into our galaxy that it needed a Borg security guard always keeping watch or an explaination on just why Q was dying. The Q drying part really confused me being he apparently was so weak he could snap his finger's and make Guinan vanish or use his power's when he was sitting at the cafe yet some how was able to send Picard and the other's back to their timeline while also resurrecting Romulan Legolas from the dead. People say that Q's appearance at the end confused them but I just thought that maybe the Q we saw who was sick was actually from further down the timeline and the Q we saw deal with Picards Son was the current Q. Either way I do hope that Star Trek Strange New World's is the last of the prequel's and they move on with sequel's like they did with Picard.

I think that Archer's character was played rather well as this naive Earther who fell for the idea that, sufficiently advanced species would "use their words" to solve problems. This human ideal forgets that most sufficiently advanced species are probably apex predators on their home worlds. Also, in the case of the Klingons, luck can lead to less advanced species getting hold of high tech.
For the series finale I would have liked to have seen a two part episode where the Enterprise and Warp Delta ship are testing the borders of the Klingons, in order to map out what the Klingons claim is their territory and what they would defend as their territory. Meanwhile the Columbia and NX-03 would be doing the same for the Romulan territory. The ships getting into skirmishes with Klingon ship(s)/Romulan ship(s). All the while Archer is getting mysterious coded messages from Starfleet which causes rising tension in the crew. The end of the first part would be a battle between the Earth ships and Klingon and Romulan ships. Shran shows up with Andorian ships to save the day. A Klingon ship transmits a message to Earth "speaking" for the Klingon and Romulan empires stating that the coalition of planets has provoked them far enough and no more probing into their territories will not be tolerated. Starfleet orders the coalition ships back to Earth. In the second episode the crew really begin to speculate about the messages from Starfleet especially after it's discovered that a new agreement has been reached between the Klingons and Romulans to share technology. The conclusion is in Earth orbit when Archer reveals that all the mysterious messages have been Archer and Starfleet discussing promotions/transfers for the crew. The final scene is the bridge crew getting on the turbolift while there replacements take their place on the bridge of the Enterprise.

Working from memory, I think there was more good about it than bad. I found Archer to be too much of an asshole and a dickhead sometimes, but I still loved him as a character and really loved his developing relationships with other characters, particularly T'Pol. I found it tiring that the Enterprise was always getting its dick kicked in, but at the same time some of their struggles were genuinely and wonderfully interesting and amazing to see - my favorite, I think, was the one with the mysterious aliens where they had to modify their phase cannons on the fly. I loved just about all of the characters and I really loved the story, for the most part and seeing where things could go. For me, it was the last good Star Trek series and the only bright spot after the 90% awful movies.
If absolutely nothing else, it was absolutely more "Trek" than any of the new slop and light years above and beyond Discovery and everything else after. I can't even muster the curiosity to try and push through the rest of Discovery season 1, nevermind the OTHER seasons - and don't get me started on the worse trash after.
Enterprise, however, I can happily revisit even if, sometimes, I want to really pick and choose episodes and not commit to an entire season, the simple fact remains that it is not only something I enjoyed my first time through, but I can go back to.

Editing to say T-pols grey outfit and shorter hair in earlier seasons was a terrific look
9:00 great observation. It's all strange and kinda scary for we humans, getting our first real taste of the 'galactic community,' but it's just another space port for the Vulcan.
This scene helps temper the excitement of people like Trip who are almost overwhelmed by how different it is. It also makes the voyage into the Expanse, a place that even the Vulcans only have scary, ambiguous reports on, feel like truly taking a step into the unknown

Fully agree this show is underrated. Three big fixes that would make the show great:
    1) Don’t make it a Star Trek series! Instead, make it an original UPN sci-fi series in the production style of Star Trek, by Berman and Braga, where you have a clean slate to build whatever lore you want.
    2) Instead of Mayweather as a younger junior officer, lean into the experience space boomer more, and make him an older, grizzled man who could never get a promotion on a freighter, and Archer makes him Chief of the Boat.
Think Royce Applegate in “SeaQuest DSV”.
    3) Bring Shran onto the ship by Season 2, and the Tellerite bounty hunter aboard by Season 3. Have Enterprise replace its lost crewmen with the disgraced, exiled, or otherwise disenfranchised officers from the other worlds that found the Federation.

If you don't know (enough) what to recount, don't make prequel.
Don't come up with shit, like the temporal cold war (including Suliban and more) and the Xindi desaster.
Other than that, it was great.

Yeah, starting from the ground up in a way is what I really dug about Enterprise. I didn't manage to keep with it long enough but I loved examining these fragile early days. It's unfortunate that they couldn't keep up with canon, but I haven't talked to enough Trek fans who DID stick with it what they wound up not liking, other than canon things. Trek does tend to make following canon rewarding, which I think is what it should be about, a bonus for paying attention, so I can see why some resented apparent changes

Love ent but it's a shame we couldn't learn much more or canon on pre UFP earth from it. Yeh we got a few bits and pieces but not on the level of ds9 which we got loads of lore on UFp politics. St ent should of been a space station series.

Enterprise is the only series that had to establish its world. TOS gave so much canon fodder for the TNG era, which ENT may be included in technically, but the world had to be completely revised. For instance, the Vulcans and Humans were closer to clashing than friends in this era, and the writers had to imagine how to tell these stories. The way they play on these tensions, exploring the Alpha Quadrant, meeting Andorians and Tellerites, so much more, all had to be creative and inventive. Such a really good show and a lot of thought went into these early years, which makes the relationships in the later-era shows feel full. The mirror universe episodes are Chef's kiss!

    Enterprise had a rough start.
Like Voyager it (originally) failed to live up to its premise. After the false start that was the First season it tried to find it's feet in the second, but ultimately it wasn't until the gloves were off and they actually started truly experimenting, with the second season closing episode, did the show finally find it's footing. The Third season was where it began to make serious progress, with a season long arc plot in a truly dangerous region of space. Sadly this was too little too late, as it still tried to shake off the lingering feelings from the first two years and truly became good in the Fourth too many people had switched over. The Sci-fi landscape had changed, with more experimental shows like Farscape and more contemporary set Stargate dominated before the 2003 BSG changed everything again. Enterprise was a relic of an earlier time and just couldn't catch up fast enough

I just rewatched it... No. It sort of deserves its bad rap. Is it terrible? No also. It just wasn't great. if I hear the words it's been a long... Ghhhhah. And when the show started getting a little darker they changed it to an even more obnoxious version with upbeat strings added... Like. Were they screwing with the audience? Meh. Would I have watched a few more seasons. Sure. But was it good content? Meh. It had potential. But the cancel didn't let us know if it was going to get good or not. Oh well. Also. Rewatching as an adult. Man. They did T'pol dirty. Crazy sexy Vulcan not able to deal with her emotions trope was way overused imo. I liked the whole mind meld subculture plot. But again. With a little tact I think she could have been much better written. Also. Why so much time travel.. like people from other centuries messing with them was so overused it was eye roll after eye roll. Yea. I didn't really enjoy the recent rewatch. I liked it better as a teen. Paramount's obnoxious commercials making episodes last longer than an hour didn't help the slog either. And one day half the season wasn't available for a few days. Really it was just a meh experience overall. Sorry if you made it this far. Nothing profound to be said here. But it's been a long comment....getting from my fingers to my phone... Uggggghh. Now I'm not going to be able to get that out of my head and sleep tonight. Thanks archer.

I was not a fan of the series at first. But then through reruns and watching the series repeatedly, it’s probably my second favorite of all the Star Trek franchise series next to TOS. The episode where T’Pol talks about her ancestor being in Pennsylvania is one of my all-time favorite Star Trek episodes.

I think that Cerebus was much more likely to be "inspired" by the Neo-Terran Front from Volition Software's Freespace 2 than they were from the human-supremacist groups in Enterprise, considering that the Freespace games were published by Interplay at the same time that Bioware was making games for the company, and the fact that the Reapers were copied wholesale from the Freespace antagonist the Shivans.

Normally I hate the term underrated, but I think it does apply here. I think most people who first turns this show on decides they don't like it fairly quickly, and that opening theme definitely had something to do with it too... but after you get past the initial shock of how different it is from other Trek, you start to like it... like rootbeer...

For those of us not terribly concerned with lore as long as when it is changed it's at least entertaining and serves a purpose other than lazy writing. Absolutely. And yes Jolene Blalock is a reasonable part of the attraction. You know it and I know it. Granted I think I hated the Tpol/Tucker romance almost as much as the Chakotay/seven one

4:59 seriously though - the older uniforms just look silly to me. Maybe it’s because the 60s and 80s production breaks my suspension of disbelief because the sets are so clearly sets and the uniforms are do clearly costumes. The modern shows look much more realistic to me. I wonder whether it would be different had I grown up in the 80s…

But fr, the ENT uniforms are one of the best touches in the series. Combined with all the computer monitors running some ugly future-DOS type of OS it is very atmospheric. Still, the 2D LCARS Okuda screens are too iconic to not be the best

I felt the temporal Cold War was a good storyline but was eclipsed by the xindi story. Even early on, there were some great episodes but I also felt there were many episodes where it got bogged down by ‘we’re not as advanced as the TOS Enterprise but you can see where their technology came from… right?’ Episodes.
There were some great characters but, as you pointed out, they didn’t get time to shine. I also found that I appreciated more on my second viewing but the 4 previous live action shows were better.
    They deserved a better finale.

I loved the imperfect humanity/Vulcans of Enterprise. As in real life, it takes time to figure things out and to mature. The wonky proto-tech was a plus as was the lack of a codified Prime Directive. It felt more grounded and "real" than the later utopian versions of Trek.

Seasons 1, 2 and 4. Not really. It's liked about as much as it should be. Not as good as earlier stuff, but still worth watching.
Season 3? One of the most overrated things in the whole series. The whole Xindi plot is one contrived and entirely dumb series of events after another. And the best episode in the whole season is where they go away from that and randomly land on an old west themed planet.
