I could not believe it, Not Elvis, no way,,,,, they must be wrong, he is only 42. God Bless you Elvis, you will never be replaced, no one will ever be half good enough to replace you. Thank you for all the wonderful music you made and for giving me so much pleasure listening to it and making many friends because of you. RIP my darling man.
Its amazing to think that even after 39 years since this footage was shown that even bigger numbers of people converge on Memphis to pay respects to Elvis on the anniversary of his death.
I was 7yrs old in Morecambe when i heared the sad news.My mum's bf was a proper teddyboy and big Elvis fan.He was really shocked and sadned. We were all crying.Sad day I love Elvis r.i.p Elvis😔😢❤💕👑🌹
Hello from England ELVIS died 2 days before my 12th birthday. OH MY I remember watching it all on TV and back then we only had 2 TV channels, the BBC and ITV. and Michael Brunson, Reginald Bosanquet and Sandy Gall worked for ITV What sticks out for me is seeing the 17 White Cadillac Cars behind the hearse.
We were down in Memphis on a family vacation I'll never forget that day I was 12 years old and I remember seeing the Cadillacs in the funeral procession go by I'll never forget it
I was there that very day and all I can say is I'll miss you forever until it's my day to join you in The Lord's Kingdom Cuz. I haven't stopped thinking about you. I love and miss you every day that passes by...😢😢😢😢😢
This NEWS AT TEN broadcast is from 18th August 1977, the day of Elvis' funeral. He died on 16th August 1977 - a date that still reverberates in millions of minds today. The date in the video should read 18th August 1977
The date is WRONG. The story of Elvis Presley's death broke at the end of News at Ten on 16th August and the programme slightly extended. BBC1 broadcast a newsflash at about 10.45pm between programmes IIRC. This News at Ten dates from 17, 18 or 19 August.
I'm one of those who thinks he may (not sure) have faked his death to live a more normal life. But, I also think all he would have had to do was retire and be sern less in public for awhile. Or tone down his extravagant concert attire etc. I remember August 1977 too. All the mourning, news, fanfare (for lack of a better word) was extroninary. Almost immediately after his passing was announced there was talk of it being faked. Why didn't the familiy show the death certificate or the coroner/ doctor report? Why was there not a funeral at a church or mortuary ? There was one at Graceland but it wasn't televised. Priscilla, a few years ago, slipped up and insinuated that she had talked to him just days before. Things like that. He was a great singer and entertainer. He did a lot of good things for people. I heard once that after a tornado blew someone's mobile down he bought them a new one. Well, he may have died in August 77. But maybe not. I'm just saying it's a possibility. Very interesting news report here from 1977. Too bad news isn't still like that.
I am fascinated by the footage of such overwhelming public grief for a celebrity. I remember this and John Lennon's murder vaguely And of course Princess Diana's death and funeral stick in the mind like it was yesterday. I honestly don't get it. I don't think I am capable of feeling that kind of emotion for someone I have never met. I've had many people over the years who's work I have loved die. Many celebrities from my childhood who meant a lot to me,and the most I feel is a momentary thought of "oh that's sad" and then I move on. The thought of shaking, waling & sobbing with grief over someone who never even knew I existed seems bizarre to me. If someone in my family is ill or dies I am overwhelmed with grief but a stranger? Never.
+Bryan Braddock For me personally, it's not that they're a stranger it's more what they did for me. For instance, I shed tears when I heard about Robin Williams dying, and still do very occasionally. It hurt, especially in the manner he died. I freely admit that I knew nothing about him without any real degree of certainty, only what he revealed and what was in the papers, but what he did for me through his films over many, many years was to make me laugh and cry and simply enjoy them. His stand-up comedy was not only funny but also, for me, inspirational and just plainly put, right on the money... I cannot watch the end of a skit he did at the Met where he played a dual role of father and son, it gets to me every time, even when he was alive, because when it all came down to it, he was a father, he was a son and the scene was concerning the future, of hope and discovery... all of which he no longer has...
Its not the person so much as the memories they have brought to us. I guess you support a footy team or sport where people you idolise just kick a ball around the ground? Thats what I dont understand. Who cares who wins or who kicks a ball? I am a musician and these artists are the ones that gave us the music. They cant be replaced like sports stars.
If you were never a fan, you will never get it. His fans are like no other, because he was like no other. You need to read a bit about this man before making such statements. And remember... this week in Memphis there will be 100,000 people there. FORTY YEARS AFTER HIS PASSING. 2017. I am one of those fans who did see him, but totally understand the ones who weren't even born yet when he died, loving him so much. He was more than a special man and great entertainer. He was a gift from God sent here to help people. I could write a book on that part alone and the things I have witnessed. God Bless this man.
Just saw a video that said Elvis was into the occult and didn't believe that Jesus was our Savior........that is SO HARD to believe although we all know that he was no saint.
MaryElizabeth99 The ones in the know don't need an open mind. Open minds is what causes people who don't know their ass from a hole in the ground to believe any bullshit they see. Look in the mirror and then sit down with your tripe included. No charge for the schooling. Once again, LOL...cool fictional story.
40 years without you... you left as so big hole in music, culture and our hearts that is still unfilled...
Miss you man, rest in peace ❤

The King there will never be another!!!
Its amazing to think that even after 39 years since this footage was shown that even bigger numbers of people converge on Memphis to pay respects to Elvis on the anniversary of his death.

At 1:45 - this was the first indication by conspiracy theorists that Elvis had not died, and that the body in the coffin was someone else.

@starryian007Yes it does now. I believe the date was later corrected from the original typo error.

The most recognizable man on earth.... Hardly a stranger.
