  • There are tons of appliances on the market, but there are a few in particular people tend to avoid, not because they’re mistakes, but because they’re unnecessary.
You can read a post called 10 Kitchen Renovation Mistakes where you can learn about bad ideas and products you should not buy.
Many products on this list are flagship, highly marketed products boosted by multimillion dollar advertising campaigns, but people don’t buy them because there are better often cheaper alternatives.
In this article, you will learn about products and categories of products people don’t buy and the reasons behind it. You will also learn about different options that may be better.
The appliances and categories we will discuss today are the Samsung Family Hub, Samsung Flex Duo Ranges, Large Laundry Machines, LG SideKick, Miele Rotary Iron, Gas Wall Ovens, Warming Drawers, Trash Compactors, Indoor Grills on Pro Ranges, Outdoor Dishwashers, and Outdoor Beer Taps.
At the end, we will provide a link to our Appliance Buyers Guide with over 60 pages of what appliance, brands, and products you should consider for your new kitchen.
Note: Samsung and LG show up prominently on this list, yet they are the fastest growing brands. They are also the most innovative. Their few misses pale in comparison to their many successful products.

Our condo came with a trash compactor and we loved it so much that we replaced it after 17 years of service. It is along walk to the dumpster and we can go up to two weeks before emptying. We've enjoyed it now for thirty years. The recycle bin is near the car park area, so no problem. A compactor may not be good for everyone, but in certain applications it's well appreciated.

As someone who had a kitchen with a wolf griddle on the stove top, I can assure you its more of a hassle than it should be. It seems like a fancy and useful addition to your kitchen but it is very impractical to clean and the heat settings are not super clear. I went back to using pans instead as it is much easier and faster alternative.

I am salesperson here in Toledo Ohio at a company called Durochers Appliances. I purchased the LG washer dryer combo with the Sidekick and the extra pedestal for the dryer. I was going to purchase the new GE front load with the Auto dispenser and tumble dry and blue microban on every. But the LG set I got an amazing deal on it. LG is still one o fly Favorite brands in appliances. I don't think I'm going to use the sidekick much. The only reason I sent a comment on your post here at Yale's UA-cam is this channel is amazing if you are a salesperson, a tech, a delivery guy. He talks about a lot of stuff and is very knowledgeable and I have learned so much watching these videos. thanks

I have the large capacity washer/dryer and I love them! I never need to go to the laundromat to wash my bedding and I can get a lot of laundry done at one time, which is great when you have a large family.

"Internet ready", "Smart", "WiFi Enabled" all unnecessary, all gimmicks, all vulnerable to hacking and unintended cross-chat with the neighbors' WiFi. If the word 'smart' appears anywhere in the name or description of any appliance or any feature or componeny of the appliance, you can bet it's a dumb buy.
I had the opportunity to buy a stainless warming drawer and matching storage drawers that will take up residence below my gas cooktop when I get to that phase of my kitchen rebuild.
I currently use a countertop convection toaster oven to warm dishes and keep food at serving temp, and it's handy to bake potatoes and heat frozen dinners or other small cooking tasks that don't need the full-size oven.

An observation: any product or appliance advertised as 'smart' or with the word 'smart' in the descriptor of any feature is invariably a dumb purchase.
4:10 As I watch this video, I can glance to a corner of the master bedroom where I am keeping some of the appliances that will be installed upon completion of my kitchen remodel; one of the eBay purchases in the stack is a Bosch 800-series warming drawer. It can keep food at serving temperature while other items are still cooking, warm your dishes for serving your comfort foods (ever plated your meticulously prepared Alfredo on a cold bowl?) , and even provide a temperature setting to proof your yeast doughs. I also have two Bosch stainless steel storage drawers that will be installed in a bank under the warming drawer, under my cooktop.

I'm definitely getting a warming drawer. Going to have wall ovens hopefully Miele. I dislike cold plates so heats my plates and keep food warm until I have finished cooking. A must

I have reviewed many of your videos and your advice is spot on. That said, I'm going to provide a different perspective on the LG Sidekick washing machine. For those not familiar, this is the small 1 cubic foot washing machine (covered in this video) that replaces the typical pedestal for a front loading washer. Yes, it is expensive, and you should only splurge if you will find it truly useful. I inherited one when we purchased our home and I do find that I use it regularly for delicates or for a smaller load of colors that might bleed such as reds or deep blues. It saves time on the washing side and the lack of a Sidekick dryer has not been an issue. The capacity of LG's dryers is so large these days that I might run two loads in the regular and Sidekick washers simultaneously, but toss them both in the dryer together. IF you are a family of 4 or larger and you find yourself running several small loads in a typical week, this is a good solution.

I would highly debate that Samsung and LG are the most innovative brands. Both tend to go for 'updates' that are gimmicky rather than actually improving operation. Samsung is horribly plagued with class action lawsuits and poor engineering choices that prevent their appliances from lasting.

I'm planning the kitchen for a new house being built this summer and have eliminated many features that I realized we didn't use enough to justify the cost. The microwave, for example, which took up a ton of space, but was used primarily to rewarm my coffee. (Food I rewarm on the stove). I looked at the French door/bottom freezer refrigerators and felt they were so huge and had such a brutalist design that they would dominate the open floor plan and draw the eye away from my beautiful fireplace. Instead I got a simple 21.6 Cubic Foot refrigerator with a top freezer: no water dispenser (which we never used) and no ice maker (which is noisy and takes up a ton of space compared to a couple of ice trays). All of our appliances are best-selling basic models with the exception of the slide-in gas range and oven, where I added convection baking and an air fryer - and I didn't even want the air fryer, it was the simpler door design I was after. I would rather have more counter and cabinet space than big clunky appliances with complicated features.

I like my Washer to be Large and front loading but when looking for a small oven, I needed to search the RV Market and that's a shame. If Washer Pedestals can become small washers then why can't warming drawers become Ovens?
Also, I majored in Electronics for my Bachelor's Degree. You'd think that I would prefer electronics for my appliances but I prefer manual instead. Electronics certainly COULD be robust but they are instead, often the reason people replace their appliances. Don't get me started on Planned Obselescence either.

The 500 Series French door fridge does not have farm fresh system (upgraded food preservation), is a 70" cutout instead of a 72" and has external ice and water instead of internal on 800 Series.

    • @arcanondrum6543

GE used to be the shizzle and in fact, an appliance Service and REmanufacturer recommended GE in a brief list as recently as about a decade ago BUT having worked at GE soon after college, I can assure everyone reading this that Jack Welch took a company that was in the lead across so many product lines of all descriptions and turned the company into a profit growth company so that he and other insiders with as many Stock Options as he had, could become very wealthy. Lather, Rinse, Repeat for the many corporations that followed suit.
Samsung is good at handheld electronics but I've heard other complaints about their appliances.
