Kyle spoke with Contributing Writer Gregg Thompson and me following our morning round on the #karoo course, and it was fun to hear his thoughts on his career trajectory, design of the course and Cabot Citrus Farms project overall.

Folks. A real review. Skip it. While the design is truly original it’s also no fun. Perhaps a low single digit handicap golfer may appreciate the challenge they still won’t likely enjoy the course.
Multiple divided fairways culminating with a triple fairway on 18. The sands dividing the fairways are long and rocky.
We also had one good caddy and one who would forget clubs and couldn’t read a putt.
The facilities are minimal yet they are charging premium rates.
Want great Florida golf with premium facilities? Head to Streamsong and play Red and Blue (two world class courses) with a fantastic hotel and restaurants.
Feel like you need to play Citrus. Cool. Doubt you’ll go back.

Respectfully, I disagree. I’m sure they’re working the kinks out with caddies since it’s a brand new course and all, but I thought the golf there is exceptionally creative, well-designed and a really fun golf experience. The Wedge and Squeeze are a ton of fun, too, and I can’t wait to check out The Roost!

I respect your review but I think it depends a lot on how you approach the game. Living in Florida a lot of course are the same and it gets boring. I think the course plays extremely fair even for mid/high handicappers. There is a ton of room on tee shots but the greens are well protected and challenging. Going into Cabot most people are shocked that they are 'still in Florida'.
I think you should try everything once. I didn't love it the first time and played it a second and had a great time. It's definitely challenging and you can't try to overpower shots or be a hero recovering because it will bite you for sure. If the course seems daunting it's definitely worth it to play 1 tee up from what you would normally play unless you want like to try and beat the course.

@@John2Mitchell one of my writers, Troy, played it from the tips during our round because there was no established course record. I think he shot an 81 but gets to say he once held the course record at Karoo. The rest of us played a tee or two up and enjoyed the hell out of our round. I think it's an awesome property and love what Kyle Franz did with the architecture!
