Hi everyone, Mr Polytrol here…… Absolutely delighted to see the results there! Just one thing, be sure to apply then BUFF off after 15 minutes, exactly as seen here, not rinse with water! No water required. 👍🏻 🚗
And I'll just add make sure you get it all off or it will leave a sticky finish. We found it best to do a rough pass to get most off, then follow up with a proper buff.
This may sound like an advertorial, but Owatrol really is a great product! I strongly advise to use it on grey or black body-plastics, each year, in spring. Black Wipers: Owatrol. Small warning: Don't leave the the rags or tissues you used to long in a bin, at home. Because of the Polymerization the fluid heats up and might even self-ignite. And store the rest-product in a smaller, as much as airtight, bottle. You can even use it on cars that look really weathered, as long as you don't intend to ever polish or respray them again. Strokes in one direction. Result may not be perfect, but the shine is nice and it offers semi-permanent protection.
This is quite a transformation Ian and Carly. Betty looks better as well, Top job! There are so many potions and spells on the market now days so it's good to see the results of one of them. Thanks for sharing.
Many years ago my Spitfire rear window was translucent. I used a spray on furniture polish/wax "Mr Sheen" and it worked a treat, but needed doing every season if memory serves. It also made water on the hood bead.
We've dealt with our fair share of Smarts over the years here @work. We had a Man last week deliver three of them....two on a Trailer and one INSIDE the Bed of his Pickup. Yes, you CAN fit a Smart into the back of Pickup provided that it has a 6-Foot Bed at the minimum 😅. We also have a Smart done up as a giant Mouse complete with Nose and Whiskers and all the rest. It was used as rolling Advertisement for a local Pest Extermination business 👀🤪🐀. I love my Job sometimes......😊.
My auntie refrigeration business had that generation Smart Car I think it was on a 02 reg 2002. I was during during my childhood. I believe it was silver. Not sure if it long gone or still on the road. But I heard a story from my perents that a water mechine was transported in the smart & the front wheel were lifting up 🤣.Great Video
i bought some on the strength of this vid and it is jolly good! thanks for the tip! Must admit, I'm a tad disappointed that the smart has gone. It seemed very hubnut, like an alternative 2cv, I thought you'd keep it longer, but totally understand the tough calls you have to make along the way! here's to more fun projects eh!
@@sebastian0107 not really. Manual roof conversion seems to be the way forward. Replacement cables and drive cogs are becoming ridiculously expensive and hard to get hold of
@@stewartikin2240 Yes, I read that these parts are overly expensive. A very simple roll construction like the 2Cv had, seems feasible to me (or a fixed Perspex plate?). The fun-thing is: here in Holland, I see them advertised as 1 owner, low-mileage, pre-loved cars for way under 2.000,- with only these non-functioning roofs as a weak point. The other week I even saw one, in great condition, 1 owner 1.4 with a year MOT for 800,- (converted to a spider, less practical). I'm with you: they still look nice, drive as good as a C3, but these roofs ...
@@sebastian0107 yes, the roofs were poorly designed, overly complicated. Combined with the fact that the youngest Pluriels are now 15 years old, a broken roof with no replacement parts available means the scrapyard is beckoning
Please, don't use it for that. There are other two-compound sealants available after you've polished them for that purpose. A to thick coating will cause MOT problems.
I had an Astra Mk2 many moons ago and it had acres of grey plastic bumperage. It would get shabby very quickly and I could never find anything to get it looking even half decent. Maybe one of these modern products would have done the trick but it's too late now.
Hmmm. That Owatrol seems to work well. I must try it on Sovvagn (my 2004 Saab 9-5 Aero estate). I HATE plastic headlights. Sven, my old 1999 9-5 had proper glass headlights. Is that progress ?
What a wonderful transformation… even if I’ll be completely honest since you don’t have the smart anymore I don’t think we needed, but that’s just my opinion. What we really need is PAJERO JUNIOR ACTION, what’s happening with it?? There’s literally nothing on any of your socials about it ! I’m gutted I really love to see it again, at least please give us an update !
I've never heard of it , but that looks amazing, I always just used G3 .. on the Smart, but it doesn't come up like that . Do you think it will last long ... 🤔
Oxidised plastics are often easily brought back with the application of some oils, heck, I managed to make a Commodore 64 breadbin's keys look like new by rubbing them down with coconut oil, keyboard itself is still pants (it's one of the cheaper boards Commodore outsourced!), but looks nice and shiny at least... :P
Hi to you both, looks impressive stuff, where can you buy it from? Would to try on my mk4 golf which is beige but looks more like a light gold colour, would love to try it out on it
Making me suffer Smart Withdrawal symptoms.. On Holiday this week down in Yorkshire so my daily Cactus is being used for holiday duties. I may have to invest in some Owatrol for the Smart, top job in prepping the Smart for its journey to Scotland. Smart is doing well through, hoping to get it to Rustival 2.
It came to us free but not running. We dropped the subframe (£100 in parts, two days of work) to fit a new starter motor, sorted out some vacuum leaks and cleaned it up for a £700 sale.
this is an extreme long shot, but a friend has an ailing smart car and is finding it hard to locate a repairer, anyone know where she could get her smart repaired in Southern Adelaide South Australia ?

That Owatrol is amazing stuff, I have refinished faded UPVC doors and metal garage doors with it, stunning

Excellent Ian and Carly good product and impressed with new ride done so many miles without major inconveniences
The transformation is excellent the Smart looks years younger than it is and not forgetting Betty
Look like a good product. The Smart looked really smart
The Smart really came out looking factory fresh with this product.
That's quite a difference. I also have to try that out on the plastic parts of my Ford Fiesta MK2.
That is quite an impressive result...
Great job car looking great 👍
Many years ago my Spitfire rear window was translucent. I used a spray on furniture polish/wax "Mr Sheen" and it worked a treat, but needed doing every season if memory serves. It also made water on the hood bead.

Should try some on TWC. Aussie Graham.
good call!

Chops garage loves this stuff
Omg…whatever you got for her, it wasn’t enough 👍
@@hectorshouse7348 aye
She's a keeper
Certainly made the Smart look lovely. I was sad to see her go.
When it does what it says on the tin. That is success, right there.
AY UP MR AND MRS HUBNUT
Those plastic headlights clean up beautifully with WB-40..😊
There are many different things for different bits of car, but I was pleased at how well this did on the different things we tried it on.
Maybe, for an hour or until it starts to rain. There are other sealants for that purpose.
I've used it Ian, didn't last too long on 90's bumpers and although expensive try gtechniq C4, you won't use anything else! It's amazing.
Chops garage is a big fan of this product
Might have to give that Owatrol a try on my lights as they are getting cloudy now.
Never use it on your headlights! MOT won't go for that. There are other sealants for headlamps.
Yep, James at Chops Garage is a big fan of Owatrol and swears by the stuff for rejuvenating faded plastics, last for a couple of months apparently.👍
Nice looking result!
Shiny! 😎
May have to try this on Miriam our motorhome bumpers as looking very tired , been wanting to do this for ages but inside what to use , so thanks xx
Owatrol make some good stuff. You should try their Rustol rust converter. It held my 82 Sherpa van together for years
Linseed oil works really well on plastic too
until dogs start licking it !!
I think that's more peanut butter...
and olive oil and Glycerine
Basically, Owatrol IS Linseedoil! But this stuff polymerizes. They make Linoleum out of it too.
@@HubNut you have not met our dog have you !! speshul needs dog !! ps I use owatrol on my pushbike as well, brought it up nice and shiny
Chops garageloves that stuff. He speaks very highly of it
Looks good impressive stuff. Just is it five cars to do and bob 😂🍄🦋🐝🤘
Keen to see the results as I need to give my Pluriel some TLC…..and yes Ian I know you hate Pluriels 😅
Did anyone ever come up with the idea to produce a fixed fiberglass plate to fit within the arches, instead of the ill roll-roof?

My headlamps could use a bit of that. Found it available on this side of the pond - that can you have goes for $17.30, USD.
It does last pretty well but yet, bit of an investment.

can use peanut oil on plastics to great effect, any colour , if chemicals are not your thing
Peanut oil is a chemical, mainly Octadec-9-enoic acid
Owatrol is a natural product.
@@ChuckFickens1972 yeah i know everything is a chemical technically, owever it is a natural product.
What a tidy garage!

Excellent, wonder what it would be like on brown faded plastic guttering?
Worth a try I'd suggest
That is literally one of their example pictures on their website.
clean it first with detergent let it dry overnight , then wipe the stuff on and see the magic
@russthebiker Gonna buy some, thanks for the advice.
VGG Shine Juice 😁
When are you two available to come around and polish my car? 😀
I had an Astra Mk2 many moons ago and it had acres of grey plastic bumperage. It would get shabby very quickly and I could never find anything to get it looking even half decent. Maybe one of these modern products would have done the trick but it's too late now.
A Smart might be the quickest and easiest production car to wash and polish.
Size really does matter. My AX was much quicker to wash than my 205.
hmmmm I would have tried Hair Conditioner first perhaps ...it really does work.

Nice,at first, but it doesn't stick longterm. It will melt or wash off. Owatrol sticks, because it polymerizes and lasts one year.
How in the pits of the netherworld does anything work that well?
The windows on Bob next? You can then use sites with a panoramic view and not have to go outside for a clear view.

I used it on my pajero evo bumper and its good but don’t put it in paint work or glass as it sets. Im sure its linseed oil as thats what it smells off
It's fine on paint, but you really must buff it off before it sets like we did. Wouldn't try on a warm day.
