- We had to return to Thailand to pick up my trusty sidekick to join me and @baldandbankrupt on our sweaty asian adventure! However after we tried to continue our journey we soon realised the flights to Laos were crazy expensive! So there was only one option left...the $10 sleeper train!
It left the station in Bangkok and headed to the Laos border for 14 hours on Thailand's 3rd class ticket, we were in for a brutal night!

If you can survive Indian trains you can survive anything
Depends where in India, old Delhi of course would be crowded however go to Kerala or Goa in the south and the trains are way less crowded , even Himachal or states like Punjab in the north.

Not sure if you'd say the same if you tried the first class on Indian trains. Only costs about $50 for a journey of thousands of kilometers but is way cleaner and more comfy than even Amtrak. Food is top notch too. The one that Ben and Bald took probably cost about $5. Most people only choose that for shorter distances

Ahh, I had flashbacks when I saw that train! I took the same night train from Phuket to Bangkok with a 3rd class ticket, just like you. It was hands down the worst experience of my life. Fluorescent lights, loud noise and wind from the window, venders constantly yelling to sell things. Zero sleep at all. I was as broken of a man as Bald

On a serious note, as a photographer, when you two were having lunch on the river, that scene with the man and the boat out there would have made a very nice photograph! I'm guessing you only travel with the camera on your phone? Seeing Laos through you, I can honestly say that of the places that you travel that I absolutely would never go, Laos, actually looks like a place that would be appealing, other than the oppressive heat and language barrier.
