Illinois loses 1 person every 4 minutes

  • Why are fewer and fewer people choosing to call Illinois “home”?
One person moves out of Illinois every 4 minutes.
2021 marked Illinois’ eighth consecutive of year of population loss, with 122,460 more people moving out than coming in. Illinois was one of only seven states that saw a rise in residents leaving in 2021.
What’s driving this problem is actually pretty straightforward. People are leaving for:
    -Affordable housing
    -jobs
How do we fix the problem?
First of all, politicians need to fix the pension crisis. That means lawmakers must give voters the chance to support a constitutional amendment at the ballot box.
Reigning in pension spending will free up more budget dollars for local schools, financial aid for college students, programs to help people with disabilities, property tax relief, or all the above.
And Illinois needs to cut the red tape to create an environment that capitalizes on Illinois’ highly educated workforce, its central location and its natural resources. Those are the things that make job creators want to invest in the Land of Lincoln.
We can fix Illinois. It just takes the political will. And once we fix these problems, we can again focus on telling others what most Illinoisans already know: this is a great place to call “home.”

Illinois needs to file BK to reset the corruption along with Term Limits for all of its career politicians.

Really? I’m happy for you. I’m looking into Florida, Michigan seems cool I’m just so tired of the cold…. Indianapolis seems cool but the state as a whole, is entirely too strict on cannabis. Don’t want to live somewhere like that. I have a medical cannabis card, don’t want to lose it. Anyway good luck!

@@moonlightreveries1459 Michigan would suck. Pretty sad to see marijuana smoked so often by the black community. Keeping people lazy at home without jobs. At the very least not as productive as they would be otherwise. Using the excuse of being creative. Using the excuse of the only way to ease the mind. Yet in reality it is just another setback for them. High usage

Taxes, overpromised pensions and Democrats, who would have known? How long until Illinois private sector taxpayers vote for change? Amazing voter stupidity.

Actually Illinois voted republican for decades before it shifted to Democratic, but even after that shift, nothing changed in government decisions when it came to pensions, the budget, and out of control spending.

@@matthewm9261Jim Edger had a budget surplus when he left office. The democrats has ruined Illinois along with cheating in elections. And as far as pentions the democrats stole the money that funded the pentions and spent it by putting that money into the general fund.

Family and friends kept me there and then one day, I decided they could come visit me when I move somewhere else and I moved to AZ. It's been 15 years, I made new friends where I am now, and I've set the tone for other family members to move here. How anybody can survive in Illinois is beyond me.

I’ve not heard it proposed at any time to make state pensions just like private sector pensions. State contributes a % while the employees are responsible for the majority. That can’t be retroactive of course but to start at the soonest opportunity would help a lot.

      It's a state wide average.
So there are individual areas doing well, but the state as a whole is in decline because there are other areas doing even worse that are dragging down the average.
