Totally stuck my camera on a book and pushed it to do these "slider" shots 😆 links in the description if you want to check out any of the lenses mentioned!

Another great video Emily. Lovin’ the lens lineup. The one lens that I’d add for travel and a great companion to your 25mm is the LUMIX 14-140 f/3.5-5.6. Not the fastest in the world or weather sealed but a real Swiss Army knife if a lens when you’re out for a (bright) day and don’t know what to expect as the focal length range is incredible and it’s very sharp! Great when you just want to sling the camera over your shoulder and want to be ready for (almost) anything!

Absolutely! I really need a longer lens. I'm severely lacking in that and they're super handy

Always enjoy your videos. I’ve owned a lot of m4/3 lenses including a kit of 6 vintage OM lenses, several Panasonic primes and zooms, several Rokinon and Chinese primes and finally the perfect kit, “for me”. Most used and almost always mounted: Olympus 12mm f2 on an E-P5 and 75mm f1.8 on another E-P5 with an EVF, next most used the 7.5mm f2 Laowa, then the 7.5mm Rokinon Fisheye, seldom used 17mm f1.8 and 25mm f1.8 Olympus’s. All lenses are f2.0 or faster and all take 46mm filters except the fish and the 75. BTW I went from APSC to M4/3 and I shoot mostly for myself but also for a designer, the big hotel room wall pics and sometimes murals. I also do interiors and exteriors for some hotel websites.

Thank you for this video, Emily. The Olympus 17mm, f1.8 is also one of my favorite lenses. I also like the Laowa 7.5mm f 2.0 for stunning landscapes, and I really can recommend the Olympus 60mm f2.8 macro. It is amazing, not just as a macro lens.

I did some early spring cleaning too and today shipped out 3 cameras, 5 lenses, a flash and 2 camera bags, so, now down to essentials. I would love to see a comparison between the FD lenses and the Minoltas when you get around to adapting them.

Really surprised you didn't mention the 20mm 1.7. That is definitely my most used lens. Followed by:
    Olympus 12mm f2
    Olympus 45mm f1.8
    Panny 45-150mm f3.5 or whatever
For macro, I bought the macro attachment for the 45mm lens. This works great and allows me to keep everything compact enough to fit in my medium size think tank turnstyle bag. I also use a fl300 mini flash with the tiny Korean remote flash attachment thingy.

Great recount! There is so many glass to try, but here in Perú M43 lenses are hard to find.
Im taking out the GF1 with a Cosina Voigtlander 40/2 F mount(so sweet) alongside with the GM1 / 12-32 kit. And for extra reach, my old Takumar 105/2.8 which is really lightweight.
Awesome channel, info and all the experience you share. Thanks!

    Thanks Emily!
Now I usually putting the Lumix 12-60 (the cheaper one) on my G85, which just replaced former 14-140ii two months ago. I love its sharpness, compactness, light-weight, weather seal and overall feeling together with the camera body. It's an outstanding all-round lens.
Lumix 14-140ii was mostly used in the past three years, especially in travelings. I find it sharp, and extremely compact considering its 10x zooming range. I have to say it's a reliable partner. However I got rid of it for lack of weather-seal, which I have recognized quite important in outdoor conditions. I hope Panasonic to offer kindness adding it on the third version.
I also own the Olympus 9-18, and I'm happy with how small it is. It deliver good image quality compared to the Lumix 12-60 in center, with slight roughness in corners. However, I don't like its lock-mechanism. It makes inconvenience when mounting the lens. Personally I also feel uncomfortable for the external zooming, but I totally understand for its price tag.

Loved your video. I think these most used lens I have is my Olympus 12-40 f2.8 Pro. Shot about 70% of my images with this lens attached to my EM5 MkII. I will often only take this combo with me. If weight is a factor such as hiking up canyons and mountains I often use my Lumix 12-32 on my Olympus E-PL5 or more recently my GX85. Recently bought the Olympus 9-18 and that gets tossed into the bag more often now. I love the small compact lenses. They definitely save my back some grief.

Nice video... it's always hard to decide what "I want" and what "I need" as far as gear goes. The Lumix 25mm f1.4...one of my favourite lenses ever! I could photograph a whole wedding with that lens :) Lately I've been working with the 15mm f1.7 and the Nocticron, both beauty lenses! Thanks!

Really love your videos!! And this one is super helpful.Love these tiny lenses. Usually shoot a mix of landscape, street and wildlife. On a budget, so I’m using an EM-1 and currently only have Panasonic 45-150mm f4-5.6 and the 25ml 1.7. I have a birthday coming up though and I’m wondering what to get next. Do I I need the 35-100mm (instead/ as well as the prime?) or should I go with 12-35mm? Ideally I wouldn’t have to switch out lens on any single day trip. Or trade them both in and get a 12-150mm? Hah!

My most used lens is the olympus 17mm f1.8 ... I find it very versatile, not too wide, good optics, love the clutch mechanism on it (though i m a bit mistrusting of the DOF scale on there). And yes It feels great, looks great on my om-d em5 and is a joy to use.

nice video as always - I love the Lumix Leica 25mm F1.4 - wish they did an update of it - just don't have the eyesight for manual focus - the 20mm f.7 Lumix is also surprisingly good - of course the Lumix F2.8 12-35 and 35-100 are awesome

Stunning! I have just done a cull as well and left just the basics. I have an Olympus Pro 25mm 1.2 that I use to death, then the Olympus 7-14mm 1.8 for landscapes. Apart from these I also have and love the same Oly 17mm prime lens that you have and use it for travelling.

Thank you for another excellent video! Love your channel. I’m not into video... however, my most used lenses are my 11-24mm f/4 L, 24-70 f/2.8 L ii, and my 600mm f/4 L ii, all in Canon EF mount. I’m just now dipping my toe into M4/3 with the Panasonic GM5 and GX85 bodies and the 12-32 f/3.5-5.6 and 45-150 f/4-5.6 zooms. I also have the 7 Artisans 7.5mm f/2.8 for ultra wide images. It’s nice using small camera bodies that provide excellent image quality.

Thanks for the great videos, I have really been enjoying them.
My favorite lenses with my Olympus OMD-EM10 are:
Canon FD 85mm f1.8, I highly recommend this lens. For concerts in dim nightclubs and speaker photos at conferences it is excellent at 170mm equivalent, very sharp and bright.
Olympus 45mm f1.8, great portrait lens.
Olympus 14-150mm, great for hiking and outdoor travel photography. This and one fast lens in a tiny case on my camera strap are all I need for that.
Olympus 14-42mm pancake zoom. Panasonic 20mm f1.7. When I am packing to go on a plane or need a very discreet or minimal setup, one of these two goes on the camera and it fits in a very small case. For general people photography of groups of friends or family, usually the pancake lens. In a museum or other dim place, the 20mm.
Bower 7.5mm fisheye. I always put a bubble level on the hot shoe and use an Ultrapod as a handle so I don't get my fingers in the shot.
I also have a Pentax K mount 100-300mm which I use for shooting auto races, a Pentax 50mm f1.4 if I really need every bit of light gathering and a Canon FD 135mm f2.8 though I don't use those very often. The 135mm is pretty soft wide open though that does give a nice look for certain portraits but I mostly find I need to stop it down to about f4 to get enough sharpness for my taste. Eventually I will probably get one of the faster FD 135mm to replace it or one of the fast 200mm FDs.

I absolutely love my Panasonic 20mm/1.7 on my EM10 mk2. I bought a used version 1 of the lens for super cheap. The kit is so small and light I don't mind taking it anywhere. Great for general photography. And I agree the Olympus 45mm/1.8 is amazing. I don't use it often but it does give great results.

  • @beplantastisch5280
    @beplantastisch5280 4 роки тому

Thanks for sharing! I thought I was being unreasonable with my 7 lenses, but after watching your video, I'm right to think it's a good thing to have the proper lenses for the job. I only buy second hand, that's why I can have that many lenses. I use my GX8 + 12-60mm f3.5-5.6 + 45-150mm f4-5.6 for documentaries and events. I prefer my 25mm f1.7 for all around travelling/photo. Then, I have the 14mm f2.5 and 20mm f1.7 for street and low light video (vlog), that I use either with my GX8 or GM1. Finally, I keep my 12-32 and 14-42 kit lenses for my GM1 for my everyday/street camera because these combos are super light and very versatile. If I think I'll want to have a camera for a small event I'm attending, then I bring my GM1 with my 14-42, because it has a manual focus ring. But if I just want a camera "just in case" then I bring the 12-32. Of course, all these are interchangeable so at the end of the day, what's important for me, is to have the right camera/lense for what I want to do. BTW: I discovered your channel thanks for Mattias Burling's recent video.

My most used has to be the Olympus 12-100, so versatile and sharp. I use it on a G9 mainly. The only issue is it’s a lazy lens, I such a good reach, makes you lazy, but then again the reach can be artistically beneficial too. The next favourite is the Olympus 17.5 prime, great on the GX9 for street, and not to bulky, both great AF. For sport, love motorbikes, I always take the Pano 100-400, a bit slow but with the ibis and iOS combined using a monopod she works fine even at full reach. Another lovely vid, thanks for all of your hard work. 👍👏📸

I'm using the 12-35 a lot. In addition, I have the Laowa 7.5 for the wide angle and the 35-100 for the longer situations and portrait.
But what I like most is to walk around towns in the evening with my absolute favorite lens: the 12mm/1.4.

Well done. I like how you don't have the top of the top of the line lenses and get great images out of them. I have the Lumix 12-60mm f/3.5-5.6 and use it plenty for professional event work. 4 years and perfectly fine. I just want the Leica for it's slightly better contrast and build. But I'm in no hurry.
    Keep up the good work!

I keep holding back on getting the 17mm 1.8 but one of these days, I am just going to get it. As you said, the focal length is covered by zooms, but obviously not @ 1.8 and as you mentioned, it just LOOKS so good on the smaller bodies. My favorite lens right now is the 45mm 1.8 but I am considering changing that to a 56mm 1.4 sigma. Havent decided yet :)

i'll have to try some adapted Canon FD lenses but i love my adapted lenses too much: Olympus 50mm 1.8, Tokina 28-70mm 2.8-4.3 Macro & Sun Zoom 80-200mm 4.5 Macro. i still love my Panasonic 14mm 2.5 because it does keep everything compact but it's not a focal length i use too often. next up will be either a nice 25mm, the fisheye you mentioned or a wide zoom.

The Olympus 45 f/1.8 is an amazing piece of kit. I sold mine in a fit of madness, but might need to replace it. It's always interesting to hear other people's favourites, and two of my personal must haves are the sigma art 19 and 60mm primes. Stunningly sharp, as well as being dirt cheap. Despite having switched to canon M50 last year, because I love dual pixel af for video, I've recently found myself gravitating back to M43 in the guise of the GX80, and may just need to get a second one........🤔

I got the 15mm body cap lens as a bonus when I I bought OMD EM10 mark 2 and went into the hills to try landscapes. I so loved the focal length that I got the 14 mm Olympus and it is my all time favourite. My favourite Nikon lens in the 60s was the “slightly fishy” 20 mm but when I got the 14 mm Oly I learned that my normal lens is a 28mm - a lens I aspired to on the Nikon F but never owned. The 14 is my walking around lens and combined with the tilt screen used as a waist level finder is amazing for street. It’s a bit slow for night work but with IBIS it is still a lot better than Tri X on the F. I use the cheap Oly macro to scan the old negatives on a copy Stand but I'd get the one you want if the macro bug bit me. I think I’m going to have to consider a 25 for doing talking head videos given your results here. Really nice combination of opinion and fact in your videos.

On my GH4 I use a speed booster with a 24mm Nikkor a is f2.8 which is good for crowds or confined spaces, I think it works out to about 36mm but I could be wrong. I also use a non speed boosted 45mm f2 Zeiss Planar from a Contax G1 which is superbly sharp and is effectively a fast 90mm. I like to use my Nikkor f2.8 135mm with a 2x converter which makes it a 540mm for moon shots.

Other lenses I use often but not seeing mentioned yet are the 17.5mm Voigtlander f0.95 and the Olympus 75mm f1.8. Voigtlander is heavy, but has saved me in low light several time and has a lovely character I think. Olympus is terrific for amazingly sharp shots at a focal length that I've noticed results in your subjects (in my case my kids usually) not being as aware of the camera and as a result acting more naturally.

When I used my g9 for photography my fav lenses were olympus 75 1.8, sigma 30 1.4 and sigma 16 1.4. Now that I only use it for video I wanted to get Panasonic lenses to help with the video af performance and o wanted to go cheaper as video doesn’t have to be as ultra sharp ... so my workhorse is the panny 14-140 and when I need low light ... I have a couple cheap primes .. panasonic 25 1.7 and 42.5 1.7

I currently have the g85 with the 12-60 kit, the 14mm pancake, 45-150 and the 25mm 1.7. my main use case is travel video. I'm finding the 12-60 quite a challenge to use with a variable nd to get shutter 180 in daylight (unusable at night). The 25mm is great for portraits/close up b-roll but not a very good length to capture the scapes I need to while travelling and food on the table. The 14mm is of course very versatile and is the (only) one I use at night, but I do wish I had the option of a bit more zoom in or out. The 45-150 I never use lol. If I were to add one more lens before my travels this summer would you recommend the Lumix 12-35 or the Oly 9-18?? Being able to capture vast expanses with the 9mm is tempting, but then again the fast and constant aperture on the Lumix really does seem like the panache for all my low light ails.

Emily, I also have a lens problem :-) and have done a little culling. Just sold my samyang fish as it wasn't getting use. Also sold oly 25f1.8 as too many 25's. Gave away a body and 12-50 to a friend. I'm amateur and shoot stills - landscape, street, portraits mostly. Most used P/L 25f1.4, oly 12f2 and oly 75f1.8 (all keepers). For travel/bad weather use with em1 mk 1 I use oly 14-150, macro oly 60f2.8, also weatherproof. These are my essentials. For fun I've a battered voighlander 25f0.95 and oly 75-300. When I go light I can get by on oly 17f1.8 (love, including flaws) and 45f1.8 (on loan to dad!), which are both light and small, and go well with a lighter body. Still have 14-42 ez don't use much but is good, especially with autocap. One day I'll probably get an IS pro zoom for travel, maybe 12-100f4 at which point 14-150 will go but I'm still on the em1 mk 1 so I don't think I can get the full 6.5 stops with it.

Panasonic 20mm 1.7, came in a kit with my GF1 and those two are a match made in heaven. 25(50)mm is actually a slight zoom to my eyes, the 20 (40)mm FOV of the 20 is near as damn it what my eyes see. The rendering is incredible too, and it's nice and compact on the GX80. It doesn't focus brilliantly, though it's not as bad as some make out, but I generally go all out manual when it's on the GX80 anyway. coupled with the 12-35 and 35-100, it's a great kit (One which that little olympus would go well with I'd say).

When I got into M43 i got myself an Olympus M10, a kit with M.Zuiko 14-42 F3,5-5,6. First stand-alone lens i got was M.Zuiko 45mm F1.8. Its great for portraits, but i actually had only few occasions to use it. Those three items comprise my "small kit".
Then i got myself M. Zuiko 12-40 F2.8 PRO. This all-round zoom is almost perfect. Fast, does not lose focus while zooming.
Then i got myself M.Zuiko 75mm F1.8 which is THE sharpest lens for M43 and great portrait or product lens. The downside is you have to be bit further from the subject :). Very underused, but almost perfect for shooting in clubs or on music concerts.
At this point i did not planned to get another lenses and for 4 years I did not. Then i purchased M5 Mark III and i realized i can go pro with the equiment, with few adjustments.
First "adjustment" was Lumix G Vario 35-100 F2.8 II. Equivalents by Olympus were however too heavy and big. I did some city photography with it and surprisingly... its a very nice portrait lens. Bokeh, distortion and vignetting i has can be surprisingly beneficial. This paired with 12-40 M.Zuiko is my "PRO kit", as I plan to do reports with them. Everything in this set is weather sealed.
The last lens i decided to buy is 25mm F1,4 Summilux. I realized i want to have a simple standard prime lens, which will be faster than the zoom, but also might serve as a backup lens in case of an accident. This and 75mm kinda replace my zoom lenses.

The Olympus 8mm Pro Fisheye can be defished in-camera on the OM-D-1ii - and you can see the effect live :) 3 settings from wide to narrow, but it doesn't work for video.
Widest setting this is wider than the 7-14mm and narrowest, I wouldn't know, but I doubt I'd still need the 9-18 either.

For a cheap, fun, and a bit artsy portrait lens, you might want to try an adapted c-mount 75mm f/1.3 Navitar TV lens. I found one for total of about US$65 including MFT adapter, and added a used JJC LH-J61F lens hood for under US$20 (it needs 2 or three layers of electrical tape on the inside to shim it to fit). It is nowhere near as sharp as the Olympus 75mm f/1.8, but it is way cheaper and a full stop faster. It gives a beautiful swirly bokeh when the background is far enough away, and is about as sharp at the center as you want for a flattering portrait. It has 8 aperture blades, and Its image circle is larger than a MFT sensor. However, it was designed for a 1" sensor and the corners tend to lie outside the focal plan of the center (non-planar behavior?), which isn't a really a problem for portraits, but can be for other work.

My kit right now is exclusivly Lumix-based, matching your 12-35, 35-100, and the 25mm 1.4. The only change is that I use the 1.7 42.5 from Pany. I barely if ever use use other brands of lenses so I can steal the advantages of 1 billion axis stabilization.

I just got the Oly 75mm F1,8- super , I use a lot the 100-300mm F4-5,6 for birds a lot, the rest are less used. I have adapters for most of my vintage FF glass- Konica -AR; Olympus -OM; Nikon -F; Minolta -MD; M-42 ; C-mount for 16mm cine lenses. Also the electronic adapter for the older 4/3rd lenses , (I have 2 zooms of the pro series, and they are great and weather sealed) which tells the IBIS the focal length. Still wanting the adapter for the Pentax A110 lenses, for I have all of them.

I shoot alot of different lenses on my EM10 including all my FD mount lenses. That being said my favorite and most used tends to be my $20 CDN 25mm F 1.4 Pixco C mount cinema lens maybe by god knows who in China since it is sold under several brands. Anyway the optical distortions especially at the edges are mad but I have been using it so often for so long I have almost developed my own unique look to my photos by taking advantage of the optical distortions for artistic effect. I can get wild swirling out of focus edges to rival the Petzval lens.

I got rid of the O17/1.8 along the kit zoom O12-50/3.5-6.3 and replaced them with an O12-40/2.8 Pro. I got ~ 400 € from the sale and spent ~ 500 € on the Pro zoom. So far, great move. I replaced two lenses that I barely used by a lens with the ability to become a staple on my camera. Love it so far. I still have a reasonable range of primes (P14/2.5, P25/1.7 & O45/1.8) as well as the O9-18 and O40-150R. A balanced amateur kit to cover most indoor and outdoor situations, except sports and birding, not my bag.
Dropping the 17/1.8 was a relief, once that anchor was out (however nice it was) it helped me focus on how to cover the focal range I wanted.

My most used lens is the Olympus 40-150mm f/2.8 Pro. With the 2x teleconverter, its full frame equivalent magnification is .84x, so it's almost like having a 600mm macro lens on a full frame camera! (Technically, the lens itself is .21x magnification, which becomes .42x with a teleconverter, and that is the full frame equivalent of .84x, so almost a macro lens.) It's the main lens I use when I'm kayaking, birdwatching, or even taking photos of insects, frogs, flowers, and that sort of thing. If I'm photographing an eagle or a beaver and a dragonfly lands on the deck of my kayak, I can quickly grab a close-up without having to switch lenses. I also have the Olympus 60mm macro, which is I have started using for insects, flowers, etc. and it is outstanding too. Usually, if I'm going for a short hike in the forest, those will be the two lenses I take.
I just got the Olympus 12-100mm f/4 Pro for indoor portraits with strobes. I haven't had a chance to use it for that yet, but I'm looking forward to not having to change lenses anymore. For outdoor pet portraits where I may want to blur the background, I use the following lenses:
Pana/Leica 8-18mm f/2.8-4 (Also perfect for real estate photography.)
Sigma 16mm f/1.4 (Yes, it's huge and heavy, but the IQ is excellent and so is the close focus distance.)
    Panasonic 25mm f/1.7
Panasonic 42.5mm f/1.7 (Sharper and MUCH less chromatic aberration than the Olympus.)
    Sigma 56mm f/1.4 (Coming soon!)
Olympus 75mm f/1.8 (Yes, the IQ is every bit as good as people make it out to be!)

  • @CreativeExperiments1

I love the 60mm Macro Olympus! I have a video of a slow mo bumble bee chase using it on my GH5. I use it mostly for product photography, but for insects, it's great because you can get further away from the subject with the longer focal length. Olympus quality is really high with smooth focus ring even though it's plastic compared to Panasonic plastic lenses that feel really cheap and sticky focus rings. Only downside is the expensive lens hood that it doesn't come with, but the upside is that is the best lens hood I have ever used.
