Yes you are right cha gling children were offered up with the sick to OG Santa aka the giant furnaces that weak children would get cooked up in to feed one feast to the string children before winter. Tragic yes but def love the chanel name.
Fun fact Hunchback of noter dame was written as a changling so it can be any disabled folk~☆

    Did a tad of research so far and had some stuff I felt like sharing ;
It was said that human mother's milk should help the weak Fae recover and may help them grow stronger
Weak Fae members were mostly used as changelings sometimes even the very old ones but kncr they were placed there most forgot about their origin and some remember - a way to explain why the kids would leave home and never return
As for the human child that was taken away they may be used as slaves, to mate and produce more Fae, or just there for their beauty
There were myths of ways to treat the changeling do the fae would come back and take it away while returning the human child back but not much was shared of those

Your channel name is part of what brought me here. 😅 I'm autistic and like to imagine that I'm part hobbit, púca, and spring trooping fairy. I'm very introspective and have thus divided my personality into six highly thought-out personas of different genders, which I am currently exploring in a D&D campaign by playing a changeling bard. Not sure if this post counts as relevant or useful... 🤔 Hooray for autism, fairies, and specific interests, I guess? 😅 I enjoyed your intro, appreciate your taste in Star Trek, and look forward to exploring your channel! 😀

3:25 I'm pretty sure one of Martin Luther's theses *literally* calls for the death of changelings. It's one of those theses we don't talk about today, right next to the ones about burning down all the synagogues and mosques, because Martin Luther was a terrible person.

Congrats on the channel launch! I never considered the idea that the changeling myths might reflect parental anxiety about their atypical child's interaction with those around them. I think you are on to something. My son was dx'd as Aspie 17 years ago (at age five. I am proud of his unique perspective of life and all its ups and downs. He's been very patient with me learning how to navigate parenthood over the years. I'm a lucky mom. :)

To expand, my understanding is this type of myth is much rooted in Irish faerie beliefs. Also, it expanded to include women, as I understand it, because children and women were seen as suseptible to faerie abduction (maybe also the elderly.) Like other similar myths, it makes some sense that some people sought explanations for strong-willed people, people with epilepsy, mental illness, and also autism. I am sure GLBTQ folks must have also been branded changelings and then killed to prove the theories of frightened folks. It probably "explained a lot" to folks pre-dating the 19th century.
I am also a Trek fan but I tend more toward Voyager, Next Gen, and OST. #nerdlife
I also practised telekenisis, without success, as a kid. I am a neurodivergent individual with ADHD and frontal lobe issues. 😁

Yeah, I'm sure a wide variety of people were probably targeted by changeling mythology and other similar ideas. DS9 is my favourite, but I do love all the other Star Trek series too

I'd love some of those links to stories about faeries and autistic people interacting in some way, if anyone has any :)

I definitely feel like I had more of these, but the only one I can find is this awesome post about autistic people being ambassadors to the fae

Yeah, changelings have ended up in a lot of different things! Which is interesting, but also makes it confusing when you're trying to look for things about mythology, haha

Thanks! I've never used UA-cam for anything serious before other than one attempt at fusing poetry and still images that didn't quite work out. I'm excited to get started though!

For some reason I've been led to this post. It was just yesterday I was inquiring on the fairy faith and found out about the changeling. Oddly enough I have an adult son who is autistic and I was also born with a sprinkling of the old Irish sight, that's a whole other story in itself.
I believe my son was taken from me in two separate occasions. The first was when he was around 18 months of age and suffering with intense ear infections. It was one particular long night of suffering with yet another ear infection that when I looked down into his eyes I feared for the very makeup of his soul. No child on the Earth is meant to endure such intense prolonged pain. (Yes, we were seeing a pediatrician, taking more and more antibiotics, and eventually had tubes put in his ears.)
The other happened when he just turned 18 and "caught" schizophrenia. Yes I say caught because it comes on quickly like a cold or flu bug and the child you knew before is never to be seen again.
You seem so bright and productive and I love your title. It is refreshing to have a viewpoint from a young experiencer. Best wishes.
