The handling of the locomotives is great. Thank you for demonstrating the thrilling and braking. Soundtrexx have a good system and are easy to control.
Greg, thank you for the video tutorial. Along with F11, you have F12 which I think is the train brake, can't remember off hand, but when set the compressor starts up and will notch up the prime mover and run for about 20- 30 seconds
Yes Chuck , the Tsunami2's have this feature, which I find a bit annoying at times . GE's run a electric compressor , which doesn't need extra rpm from the prime mover in most instances. Thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Gregg.
Gregg- you're The Man! Continued thanks for making these Tsunami vids. You "cut to the chase" for the programming and make it much more effective for me to do it. Like others, I've made notes of what you've said and keep it in my Tsunami folder. This particular tip on braking will be fun to implement during operation. Cheers!
Thanks Kevin! I use this feature a lot more than I thought I would, especially to get better looking starts on grades. I love the Tsunami 2's and I'm working through them to get some more tips on sound and lighting adjustments, which will feature in future videos. Glad you got some tips and thanks for the positive comments. Cheers Gregg.
Hi Ian , If it's an Athearn Geniesis, they have the brake setting turned off from factory, which you need to turn on. If not , make sue you have the brake CV, 22 to 16. Gregg.
@FishplateFilms thank Gregg. Did some more research and fine tuning. Got em dialed in pretty good now. I'm really enjoying your videos! Very entertaining and educational ta boot! Thanks for replying, and I hope all is well.
@@ianpinckney5198 Thats good Ian! I still make mistakes even though I've done over 100 Tsunami's over the years! I'm glad you enjoy the videos and get something from them. Cheers Gregg.
Thank you Thomas! Tsunami 's default is 7 speed steps per notch, which you can change to any ratio you like. I leave mine at 7 , but it also depends on the speed table you use and personal choice. Also you should always use 128 speed steps on your cab / system for smoother control. I'm glad you enjoy the videos and have got some tips rom them. Cheers Gregg.
Hi Greg, I have a Bachmann loco which has dcc sound onboard, SoundTraxx, when the track is powered up, the engine sound is already on, there is no engine shutdown or start, I have a NEC Control, not the Pro Cab. Do the Tsunami2 have an engine start up and shut down. Thank you, regards Gary
Hi Gary, You will have to go to Tsunami's website, and look up the specific table for Bachman equipped locos.I have a Walthers SD70 ACe and it is slightly different to a normal Tusnami. Tsunami 2 have a engine interlock that enables you to have the sound off on start up and shut it down manually. Tsunami 1 also have this feature but I think it's called auto start? . Both manuals are online so you can find the CV's you need. Cheers Gregg.
Hi Greg, thank you for the info, I can mute the sound by pressing F8 if I remember correctly, I'm thinking of putting a tsunami2 into this loco. I also have 2 Broadway Limited with Paragon2 dcc sound and a Rivarossi sound equipped, this has an ESU Loksound select decoder, these 3 loco's are all good. Regards Gary PS: I hope you had a great Easter?
Hi Greg, I had a look on soundtraxx website, the engine startup when you turn on the track power is normal in the Tsunami1, the Tsunami2's, when you turn on the track power, no sound comes on, as you know, you throttle up for the engine startup or you can press function key F5 and F6 to shut the engine down, so, I'll put a Tsunami2 in.... If it's ok Greg? Where do you buy your Tsunami's from? they are not cheap. Regards Gary
Gary , the Tsunami 1's do have a sound shut off on start up but I'll have to find what it is. My SD70 ACe used to start up on track power but I managed to turn that off, so I'll get back to you on that. I get mine from Model Train Stuff, even with the US dollar and shipping they are a lot cheaper than down here. I saw one for $190.00 online down here, more than double the US price???? Aussie shops need to be less greedy. Gregg :-)
Hi Gary, Go to page 43 of Tsunami 1 user guide and read about CV116, if you add a value in that and leave off the value of 32, you will turn off the auto start feature. I set CV116 for 7 speed steps per notch, idle when in dynamics and you add the values up and put them in CV116 with out adding 32. Once you go through that it will turn auto start off. Cheers Gregg.
ua-cam.com/video/RtqvkQggNnM/v-deo.html Hello Gregg, oh and you to Lord Stan, lol I hope all that shakin hasn't disturbed any of that whiskey. Check out this interchange in Kansas City.
Hi Spike. The heat down here is the thing that affects the Whisky the most! Will pass on your regards to Lord Stan . The link isn't working but I'll check it .out. Cheers Gregg.
Thank you. Yes I have a few older LokSound decoders, but I prefer Tsunami due to how the drive and you can adjust the notching speed steps. Loksound are great decoders but I think the Tsunami 2's are equal to them now. They both have their pros and cons. Cheers Gregg.
Great video Greg, this is a great feature and you have explained it well ,so please don't take this the wrong way but when you apply the brakes on a real loco, you don't hear anything, it's only when you release them that the air escapes. Do you know if you can swap that sound? I used to drive trains and I was taught a certain sequence when stopping and starting a train; On a rising grade, you would notch back to 1 and apply the train brakes but release the independent so the engines would pull the train as it stopped and keep the train stretched out. If you were close to a full load for the grade you could also drop some sand as you stopped to help you start. When you started, (as you said) you would notch up to a notch suitable and allow the engines to load up before releasing the brakes so as the engines would slowly move off keeping the train stretched which helps prevent the couplers from breaking
Thanks Neale! The sound is only activated once the train has stopped on the Tsunami 1, but I have to set the air sounds for the Tsunami 2. You have a few options on the new decoder so I'm working on it! As you say the sound is reversed but I'll check the manual to see if I can reverse it. TSU 2 gives you a lot more sound functions, but I love the way you get realistic starts using F11! Cheers Gregg.
Hey, Gregg. I was just curious, but in all of your time as an employee for the railroad, have you ever driven a freight train or applied for the position?
Hi Joe, We;re not even allowed in the cab officially theses days! If I had 2 good eyes, I'd be driving for BNSF or some railroad in the US, and that's a fact..LOL. Years ago I might have had a chance but today the medicals are very strict and I was lucky to get into Signals with my eyesight. But I'd give anything to have a go as I have good mechanical feel and I drove trucks for 8 yrs and enjoyed the challenge of that. I did drive a loco in a yard when I was a teenager and the times I have sat in the seat, I feel completely at home. I hope to get back to the States and do a driving course for a day that some heritage lines offer? Gregg:-)

G day mate! Thank you for helping me to be a trend sitter. Pass along Cheers to Lord Stan.

Great in-depth description of one of the many tsunami2 decoder features
Thanks Cam! More on Tsunami 2 on the way.
Cheers Gregg.

Thank you William and a pleasure.

What about econami decoders ?
They are great and I have a few ! Check out my video on Tsunami 2 decoders , where I talk about the Econami decoders.
Cheers Gregg
THANK YOU...for sharing.
You're welcome.!
I learn something new every time I watch one of your Tsunami videos. Thanks...Harold
Thanks Harold ..so have I !! Thanks for the support.
Cheers Gregg.
Excellent video Gregg, always good to learn more with the tsunami's
Thanks John! There's always something new to learn.
Cheers Gregg.
How can I get the engine to stay put while notching up without locos moving and brakes squealing? I have my independent train brake cv set at 178.

Thank you and you're welcome.!

Great video ....all yours have fall helped me out immensely Question: in General how many speed steps determine Notch 1
Thank you Thomas! Tsunami 's default is 7 speed steps per notch, which you can change to any ratio you like. I leave mine at 7 , but it also depends on the speed table you use and personal choice. Hi Greg, thank you for another interesting video, looking forward to your next update video. Regards Gary
Thanks Gary! Layout update on the way soon.
Cheers Gregg.
Thank you for the video, you make it simple. Again great video. Can’t wait to see more videos on sounds and the layout updates. Stay cool down there.
Thanks Terry and I'm glad you enjoyed it sir! More on the way including more videos from my trip to the US and Canada.
Cheers Gregg.
have you had a look see of RAIL PRO radio controlled decoders and thier nice custom progammmable sounds good to be abord mate
You gotta let the sound out. Grind the rear vents out on the top rear and fill in with Plano Models U25B grills.
You won't believe the difference.
Very interesting.
One point, when you said you run your trains slow..........how fast is slow?
Thanks Brian. My top speed that I run is slow compared to a lot that I see, but it is more prototypical given the short distances we run.
Gregg.

love your vids, but have you tried ESU LokSound yet? Tsunamis are dated... or behind at least
Thank you. Yes I have a few older LokSound decoders, but I prefer Tsunami due to how the drive and you can adjust the notching speed steps. Loksound are great decoders but I think the Tsunami 2's are equal to them now. They both have their pros and cons.

FishplateFilms that's a very fair answer. thank you
You're welcome. We're lucky to have a choice of 2 very good decoders..a bit different to when I started in the hobby back in 1980!
Gregg .:-)
