    👉 Dimash's broken, delicately breathy voice, a simple melody with uncomplcated pop rhythm (reminiscent a bit of 'I Miss You'), loving, sad but also comforting words and haunting images... and this adorable smile from Dimash... tears flow over my smiling face.
    For me, the lyrics, the dull pop beat and the images of the video all go together very well.
    Dimash leaves his beloved because she has someone else. He knows that the other can be dangerous to him, but he doesn't know that his loved one is being blackmailed by this secret police officer. He thinks she's happy. Dimash assures her that everything is 'okay', he accepts and life goes on. It seems easy for him to give up his love. (pop beat, almost like a fast heartbeat) ... but in Dimash's voice you can hear the pain, even if there's nothing to regret. He's fooling himself and her.
    The secret policeman, who suspects something, wants to catch Dimash. When he finally realizes that the young woman will never love him, he gives her the 'choice'. She flees with Dimash... A shot is fired...
    End? It leaves us stunned. What will happen? You brood and brood, but you can't get it out of your head. For whom is the glass always half full and for whom is it always half empty? ... Fascinating, clever ... great!
    Director Alina Veripia was blown away when she learned she was to create the story and video for Dimash's new song. Dimash also chose Alina's favorite from 4 stories: A beautiful and deep love story set in the years of Stalin's repression. This love is so deep, pure and immortal, It defies the horror, the fear, the penetrating cold and darkness of this time.
    The video was recorded in color but looks black and white, very dark, spookey. Only the lovers are shown in a bright, sun-drenched, warm, bronze-colored setting. These scenarios reinforce the intense feelings emanating from Dimash's breathy, delicate voice and the haunting, magical and beguiling, but also from the frightening and disturbing images.
    The location was St. Petersburg, appropriate to the dark year 1937 in which the video takes place. (Source and more information on Dimashnews)

    I love the fact that again and again Dimash shows the world that he's not a one trick pony, that he's far more than the high notes, or even just the music. We've always thought he had the capability to be an actor, With his performance in this MV he has proven it without a doubt.

  • @lovesyoutube8591
    @lovesyoutube8591 2 роки тому +48

    Video director Alina Veripia created 4 scenarios for the MV, and Dimash picked this one. She described the idea behind it : “This is a very beautiful and deep love story that takes place during the years of Stalin’s repressions. In this horror, in this piercing cold, in this crime, the love of two people is born, as if they did not come from this world. And they are so pure, so beautiful in their feelings, that no darkness can extinguish this light." On the question of location, the team made an unanimous decision to shoot the MV in St. Petersburg, because no other city could convey the flavor of the harsh and terrible year of > 1937. Dimash establishes the timeline - "we found each other" first, then "now you are with someone else". The couple`s enemy is an NKVD officer who wants to claim our hero`s girl for himself. The officer represents power, so he can claim anything he wants, and he can get away with anything. "Under Stalin, on the orders of the NKVD, anyone could be arrested, imprisoned or shot as an enemy of the people." - as another user commented. Beauty of love, purity, and evil`s attempt to destroy it, in a harsh era in history.
    It`s not about forbidden love, it`s about the attitude of evil towards good and love, and it`s attempt to >make< them forbidden ; to reduce a "world full of color" down to only "a flash in the sky". The switch back and forth between images of the happy couple and images of the girl being pestered by the NKVD officer, has the purpose of highlighting the contrast between the sun-lit beauty of good and love, and the grim-colored ugliness of evil intentions.
    Our hero and his girl try to accept the forced separation between them, the new "definition" of happiness under the abusive regime, but they can`t bear nonsense forever, and they try to escape it.
    And the ending is not a cliff-hanger : the subject of the story is the fate of beauty, good and purity under an oppressive regime, and the self-entitlement of evil, that puts it`s brutal stamp over it, with the gunshot.
    The screen goes black before the gunshot with the purpose to keep the focus on the attitude of evil, who doesn`t know to do anything other than hurt, successfully or not.
    __________________________
    More answers : letting the girl go, letting them reunite only to shoot after them moments later, is just another shade of cruelty.

      Yes, Thank you for quoting the Dimash news article. The music and music video conveys the harsh realities and repression against normal citizens in circa 1937 by the NKVD. It was a horrible time of oppressive power and corruption there against ordinary people.

      The story in this video is a subliminal justification for the current aggression and barbarism. Cooperation with the aggressor strengthens this barbarism. 02/24/2022 the day when you had to choose what is good and what is bad - no intermediate colors. Explaining the stories in this video in interviews are fairy tales designed to compassion for the aggressor !

    1937 Stalinist Russia in artistic sepia and black and white, Cuban samba woven in the music (secret Krutoy passion) and it works ! Can't miss that Latin beat ! Edgy, creative, nuanced, another brilliant Krutoy/ Dimash collaboration.

    This reminds me so much of George Michael’s later works. I love it. And in my opinion, it’s not open ended. We know Dimash’s character died. That’s the cruelty of the ‘choice’ given. It’s sadistic, to let her have 10 seconds of freedom before having her watch Dimash die in the street before hauling her back in, hence fitting with the secret police character. The point being that they ALWAYS got their way.

    This is very Dr Zhivago -esk. I take the story of she's in love with Dimash but she is with the "Officer" because it affords her better things in life during a very dark time. Plus she really doesn't have a choice. The officer of upper standing Let Her Go in my mind either to take her away from him or to take him away from her to prove that he can. 😎

    Seeing this video strongly reminds me of the Ayn Rand novel "We The Living" which is about love and survival in the early USSR. The heroine Kira loves Leo, an aristocrat, while Leo, a striking young member of the Communist Party adores her. It gets complicated and tragic.

    I don’t think you will see a sequel. Many of Dimash’s songs have a deeper meaning. Take Samaltau where around 1916 Kazakh men were conscripted to fight in the Russian Army or taken to Labour Camps. Take his song War and Peace.
    This video was shot in St Petersburg. The music composer Igor Krutoy was born in Ukraine. Just a thought….

      Great point. Also the video was shot 6 days before the war started, and the song's premier was postponed because of it. Dimash then chose to publish it on the eve of the Remembrance Day for the victims of the Terror, which is the setting for this video. It definitely isn't just a setting for romance. And his sense of timing is impeccable, as always.

    Love Dimash 's airy voice, and he made it all through the song, that' s very hard to do. Great music video, great colors and wardrove. Ok is Ok if Dimash is the singer. Thank you for your reaction. Have you hear Know, Diva dance, Love is like a dream, there is a lot of kasack songs that are beautiful, Love of tired swans, Miss you. Pop songs like Be with me, Screaming, etc. ,there are some songs with other singers like To vais me detruier, Ulises, Ti amo cosi, some of the last ones like his Mega MV Story of one Sky, the first song in spanish El Amor en ti, Together. Thank you.

    Beauty, love and light against the cruelty of the oppressive evil that is in power. It is always tragic in its message. We must be angry and hurt ....and intolerant of such evil power. And garner immense courage to fight and destroy it.
    He let her go to him to then cut them both down. Or not. We are left not knowing. Maybe he took a bullet to save her. We are left with only our thoughts. But, It is the way evil operates. It terrorizes with cruel examples of could happen should you dare to cross it.
    The song is sublimely good and the story as old as time.

    This video is set in 1937 during the Stalinist purges. The secret police had total power. They executed millions of people--not just their political enemies, but also ethnic minorities who they considered "untrustworthy." This video shows he is a musician and she is a dancer. Musicians, dancers, and artists were among those falsely accused of crimes and executed. Dimash as the hero perhaps represents both of these categories. His song Daididau was written by a Kazakh dissident writer, poet, scientist and teacher, Mazhan Zhumabaev, who was arrested and murdered during one of these purges in 1938. History if not remembered can repeat itself. This kind of oppression should never happen again, and yet it still occurs around the world today.

    He either shoots Dimash because he was after him all along, or he shoots the girl because he can’t handle her rejection. As a bonus of these two options there is the cruelty of having one of them deal with the death of their lover. Or two more options… he misses both of them and they get away, or he shoots himself because he can’t handle the humiliation.

    We don't know who was shot either. At least this way we can each make up our own ending! Those who like tragedy can decide who was killed. Those who like happy endings can decide that he missed them both and they escaped! I think he just let her go so that he could either make her see the Dimash character die or so that Dimash could see her die. But I prefer to think that maybe he missed!

    This is set in Stalin's Russia. It is not about Dimash's voice but about the story. It is about the brutal abuse of power to tear apart lives & loves, and no, it's not Okay. We are left hanging - we don't yet know the ending, but the message is that we should be paying attention and the intimate engagement insists that we care. We do.

    It´s funny that everyone tends to focus on the video rather than the singing. Why? Take the video away and what remains is a rather uninspired commercial pop tune. Of course Dimash´s singing is as good as it gets but there is not much to be done and expressed within the confines of such a boring tune. Compared to Ikanaide, for example, this is really regressive.

    • @GiuC39
      @GiuC39 2 роки тому

      You know what? Sometimes we have a composition of elements - music and light, music and video, music and dance - that makes a full experience. Dissection doesn't apply in such case. I believe that the soft singing, the sunlight, the love story, are in complete opposition to the up beat, the officers' brutal gestures and the gray colors of the city. All those elements create a haunting atmosphere, increasing a tension that exhales from this whole. That's artistry.

      @@GiuC39 You are right- IF this song is supposed to be a mere accompaniment to a video. Maybe I am too demanding, because I expect a Dimash song to stand on its own. That is, it must be good if listened to as an audio track only, as we all do when streaming songs, for example. But in this respect it's probably the first song I heard from Dimash that just falls flat for me. Without the video it´s just boring...
