People calling Scream "overrated" obviously forgot how inventive it was, or they simply saw the copycat movies first. A lot of what was in the original "Scream" hadn't been done before, some people don't realise, or believe that. Haters tend to think nothing existed before the stuff they're into did. Horror was in real trouble before Scream came along. Scream was terrifying at the time because of it's originality....and without Scream there would be no " Saw" (it's easy to see the influence) or any of the other slashers that came after. It revolutionised the whole genre

Exactly, before this it was just 80s horror, like Freddy & Jason. Scream did what Halloween did 28 years earlier. It reinvented horror. You can see the difference before & after scream.

Scream is a classic! Don’t really watch Horror Movies that much anymore, but I’ll definitely watch any of the Scream films. Never Campbell also took home “Best Female Performance” the following year for Scream 2.

I saw _Scream_ in theaters...at age 10! Yes, I had a "guardian" with me. Nonetheless, I loved it, but yeah, it scared the shit out of me, and was so grateful for the invention of caller ID.
I saw it when I was 10 too! It affected me for a long time, so scared to sleep that night but then I was kinda obsessed lol still love the franchise so much to this day.

Poor Jamie. He really did a great job in this film, I really hope there is still hope for his career. He deserves better.
I don't think there is hope in his career. He's a reasonably funny guy but he is in the same class as Matthew Lillard, who describes himself as a "working class" actor. He does his absolute best, but more often than not he has to choose projects that are not so great simply in order to "feed his family". This is what happens to actors that move their way into obscurity and Lillard is grateful and more than happy to acknowledge that.

The good old days
Pretty sad considering how great movies like Scream, Se7en, and Pulp Fiction (all of which won the MTV Best Movie award) are now fellow winners with the Twilight Saga. Case in point, teens in the 90s clearly had better taste.

Rocio Olivera True, it's all a matter of opinion and taste; however, when comparing the film(s), Scream achieved arguably more of a welcoming reception both from critics and audiences alike than all the Twilight films did combined; furthermore, Pulp Fiction, Se7en, Scream, and Titanic have all stood the test of time and, if anything, are embraced and appreciated more in 2015 than they were in their respective years. Yeah, the same could apply for the Twilight films in the years to come but it's looking doubtful; furthermore, in terms of critical reception as well as a general public opinion (not limited to an MTV audience), the Twilight films, arguably, have become punch-lines in and of themsevles. Again, it's all a matter of personal taste, it's just, when examining the ultimate contribution to cinema, these films clearly achieved more than certain current winners IMO. Plus, not to sound too pretentious (too late?), but I can assuredly say that people of my generation (or at least, on a MTV Movie Awards bases - which should never be taken seriously anyway, just saying) tend to favor contrived, mediocre, and sanctimonous films that strive for conceit, phony optimism, and lack of ambition - in other words, films made solely for profit and/or to cater to a limited audience equally conceited and mundane. But again, just all a matter of opinion and taste.
I don't know why people constantly hate on the Twilight series, it's meant to appeal to a younger demographic and that's why it's so successful. Most movie critics are older so they wouldn't understand. I mean come on, the movies weren't /that/ bad.

There was some good films to pick but Scream was a masterpiece, the amount of times you see the scream masks at halloween and so many quotes from the film that is still being used today
One of my all time favorite horror films great casting is what definitely made that film and the chemistry 💯💯❤️❤️ Love You Neve, Matthew, Rose etc.

They started SCREAM 2 a few days later. Funny how Craven didn't thank Kevin Williamson who was behind him! I remember reading in the end credits of the show "WES CRAVEN THANKS THE SCREENWRITER OF 'SCREAM' KEVIN WILLIAMSON". hehe, he probably forgot!

I love the way Rose McGowan claps, realizes she’s the only one clapping. And makes fun of herself 😅. Wes Craven looked so nervous, he clearly didn’t mean to leave out some people’s names. Mira Sorvino and Samuel L Jackson looked like they were having so much fun. I miss those times, no politics, no agendas or so called activists speeches. Just pure joy for the entertainment.

Congrats to the cast and crew of Scream who won for best movie at the 1997 MTV Movie Awards, hosted by Mike Myers (star from Wayne's World to Austin Powers : International Man of Mystery).
Myers' Hail parody film was hilarious. Especially if you've seen some behind-the-scenes interviews with Jan de Bont first.
Scream had a killer screenplay, no pun intended.
This proves how big and popular Scream was of the time period it came out and shows how it was becoming a huge hit and a long waited very hip and scary horror slasher film to become a future staple in today's horror realm.

An intresting twist, Wes Craven may have been the most intelligent, and highly educated human to ever win an MTV movie award.
I always think of that quote that Quentin Tarantino said when Pulp Fiction won the MTV award for Best Movie: "Pop quiz, hotshot: you go to the awards ceremonies all year long; you keep losing to Forrest Gump! It's really annoying the hell out of you - what do you do? You go to the MTV Awards!"
