It's one of those situations where the cure is worse than the disease. If the US took any substantial action, there would be a huge political and possibly military backlash from China and Russia. After all, China wouldn't want the US to gain any more foothold in East Asia.

I just want to know what I can do to help. This is unacceptable. I know I would rather die than live in one of those camps. I can't even imagine how these people cope with the torture, executions, starvation. It's just so sad.
Spread awareness. This is crucial to helping out; if no one knows about it, no one will do anything about it.
There are also established organizations fighting to help North Koreans. Check out Liberty in North Korea; they help North Koreans escape.

Nikko Ajao I just don't like the double standards that western media advocate in condemning Iran as this horror nation on par with North Korea, and then people like this propelling these false equivalences. I just want people to think about things outside of the media's agenda. America's influence's outside (and even inside) its own borders has led to much worse things happening than what Iran does, so that's why I got annoyed.

i've always known north korea was pretty fucked up but i just cant believe how sheltered and ignorant i was, after watching this video i felt sick and i know that there is so much more i dont know, i dont think ive ever felt so angry from just watching a video, we need to share this kind of stuff around and make people more aware. noone deserves to be treated like this.

With all due respect the south invaded North Korea and they responded by thinking it was a full out war and counter attacked! Human Rights Watch should stop putting out very bad propaganda! I am not happy about the situation in North Korea for the people there suffer greatly but if your going to try and tell the truth about the situation start by getting it right on who really started the Korean War!
Either way they should focus on the camps and leave some of that war history out completely. It's irrelevant at this point.

I think I found the answer as to why N.Koreans aren't opposing the regime, the man said that it will not hurt just only the person who opposes, but also his family, that's why they just obey. I am sure N.Koreans are not stupid nor blind. They know that their regimes sucks too.
And I really feel the pain for Koreans, they just happen to be caught in a proxy war between China and USA, and it's sad that it tore millions of Korean families apart. Prior to that, Korea was invaded by Japan 3 times, that is just painful to hear.

I watched a documentary on Guantanamo bay, and while it's just one video, might not even be true, it showed that life on the inside, while very restricted, had things like three meal choices, including a vegetarian option (most meals there cost roughly $50 a day, where as most American prisons cost $2.45), strong healthcare, and even video game and laptop privileges.
While the video may not be true, I think there's enough evidence and interviews to show otherwise.

As I understand it, Korea wasn't separated then and The US, as much as they helped, was the one who decided to separate the two countries without the two countries agreeing on it. Because North Korean citizens are not allowed to leave the country, it's as simple as that. If they attempt to leave and get caught, they will get shot. If they manage to escape, their family gets killed.

Yep. Being arrested or killed for trying to leave happened in China for most of its communist history (and probably still happens today), and it was standard protocol in the Soviet Union. It's been active policy in Cuba at least since the US set up its trade embargo (which needs to be lifted for the sake of everyone living there). Killing someone's family is a particularly brutal twist, though. Josef Stalin would be proud.
this people are stupid, at least the way i see them, i understand their suffering and whatever you say and i think this video is important. But then they start saying stuff that kills me from the inside that has nothing to do with their rights or how they lived, they compare themselves to animals, the moment they did that every bit of compassion went away in a second they say that they were like dogs fighting for scraps and they they LOWERED themselves to that point or saying some other shit like they didnt see themselves as humans but like animals as in a bad thing, and a couple of other things here and there, this people, is the real problem. most people dont enjoy or tolerate animal abuse but when you compare yourself to an animal in a bad way its always ok like here. they were saying that this was not tolerable but then in some sort saying that it was ok to do it to animals and to have them live in this conditions. at this point im not interested in human rights as i should be and neither am i in animals right either because it wouldnt change anything. what im getting to is that it pains me to see that people place humans over animals and that there are some things that you cant do to humans but you can do to animals, Why?
