Funny because this game share some similarities with Attila, at least in the strategy maps, the icons and the maps seems come out straight from Attila, but the general map UI seems to be more similar to your favourite game, Shogun 2, with the political system of Attila as well with some new perks.
Great to see a new TW and that you have early access. I'm from Wales so if you did want any help I'm happy to , but you will butcher most of them. Don't worry about it and crack on. Just to start it off though it is Dove-Lynne. I think it is brilliant the way you just dive in and figure shit out as you go along and on Legendary. Loving it - great start!
Thanks man, I appreciate that. I will indeed destroy pronunciations left and right, but I appreciate the help. Feel free to post more in the future if you want, although keep in mind that I have recorded this very far ahead so you won't see me correctly pronouncing anything for a long time.
You know, I had honestly not paid much attention to this game because I was rather let down by Atilla and Rome 2, but after seeing you play this I realize that it is absolutely what I've been waiting for! The battle mechanics look solid, as do the campaign mechanics, and I can't wait to see how you take war to the Isles to secure the legacy of Ragnar's Blood.
I was the same. I knew I was always going to play it because I'm a Total War UA-camr and I was excited for another historical title but my hopes weren't all that high since it was based on Attila and I wasn't a huge fan of Attila, but so far I am very pleasantly surprised.
If you skipped Rome Total War 2 and Attila for the Warhammer games, all what you are praising about the battle mechanics and the campaign mechanics already existed in Rome 2 and Attila, and the campaign mechanics are a mesh between Shogun 2 and Attila political mechanics with a few perks.
If you checked out my channel or even bothered reading my previous comment you would know I did play Attila and I also played Rome II, I've played all Total War games with the exceptions of Medieval 1 and Shogun 1. That's a very harsh way of criticizing a game, the battles are similar to Attila, sure, but they're similar to all Total War games in the sense that it's Total War battles. They're dissimilar enough from Attila to be praised in my opinion, even if the mechanics are exact same, which they're not, there's still different unit balancing, compositions, etc. And the campaign mechanics have enough differences to barely be comparable to any of the other TW games. The province system is entirely different, public order is entirely different, map is entirely different, etc.
I always hated it, AI armies would come into your territory and always be one step ahead of you, you could never catch them and you'd just be chasing them for ages, one of the many things I disliked about Rome 2 and Attila.
I didn't play the newer TWs where this was a thing and always wondered how essential it was because every other critic throws the missing forced march in when arguing about how bad and causal ToB. Doesn't sound like a fun mechanic.
you didnt shout that (unfortuannly) but i laughted my guts out when you couldnt find the granary and then "hey, there it is...." PLEASE USE THIS SHOUT ON YOUR NEXT BATTLE, ON EPISODE 6 OR 7
in shogun you could hit space bar to have the overall map units move at a higher speed, i feel like your units move faster than man.. if thats still a thing what button do you use to speed up the army or boat movements on the campaign map? since space bar is just the overlay for unit types and whatnot now and i cant find the key bind in settings.. thanks!
MrSmartDonkeyLP thank you sir! :) love the stream and have watched your shogun lets plays for.. so long lol pop in the stream when i can too! Thanks for the reply and the content
While my experience so far is limited to 15 hours, I can say that my first impressions far exceed my expectations. Whether it's worth it is up to each person individually, but all I can say is that I'm really enjoying it so far and I'd even go as far as to say this might become a mainstay on my channel.
I'd compare it to Fall of the Samurai. It feels like a standalone expansion with new mechanics and the like, but based on a previous game. From my little experience I'd say it surpasses Attila in every way though.
well i do know that Frisian does have some similarities to dutch but that would be lost after so long. I was just thinking you may of come from that part of the Netherlands or knew the language, but it was a vain hope. XD
There are some screens that are shared between factions, but if you watch the intro to my Strat Clut campaign you'll notice there's different screens there too.
oh no, it's the Uesugi all over again XD
anyway, loving this, looking forward to more
Viking conquest intro music. WHOOAOOOAOOOOOO OOOAOOOAOOOOOOOO le magnifique
Indeed, I thought it fit the theme pretty well :D
*When your playing Viking conquest and your just like oh hey I'm a Lord of that place... Huh...*
*Not Dyflin other places :3
Really looking forward to watching you play a lot of this! You're by far my favorite when it comes to Total War playthroughs.

IVAR THE BONELESS :O

MrSmartDonketLp+ Actually I was replying to the other guy.
Welp, don't I look like a fool. My bad, apologies.
Straight to legendary difficulty wow
Are there any other difficulties?
MrSmartDonkeyLP For you, only one :P
Oh no horseboys, watch out for them in case they're as strong as they are in Medivel 2
This was the first time I hear someone say they are happy that forced march is gone when talking about ToB.
I always hated it, AI armies would come into your territory and always be one step ahead of you, you could never catch them and you'd just be chasing them for ages, one of the many things I disliked about Rome 2 and Attila.

Hasn't been an issue for me in my latest Rome2 campaign. I do remember it frustrating me before, in previous patches, but not since a long time back
I think it was always more of an issue for me in Attila, but I don't really remember, been a while since I played either.
UI is looking more like Civilization, not necessarily a bad thing.
Fyi, your faction is Dublin.
Aye, I figured that out in episode 2 or 3 I think. :P
you....playing as the vikings? a Sea based faction? doing sea battles? What happened to the real Smartdonkey, and what did you do to him?
Regarding the battle UI thing, maybe its possible to rebind the UI pop-up key to something else.
Ah, that's an interesting thought. I will have a look at that next time I record.
How to trick mrsmatdonkeylp in a campaign: tell him his goal is near the granary!!!
no, seriously, what a warcry xD "TO THE GRANARY!!!!"
Where in the video was that? Would love to hear that :P
you didnt shout that (unfortuannly) but i laughted my guts out when you couldnt find the granary and then "hey, there it is...." PLEASE USE THIS SHOUT ON YOUR NEXT BATTLE, ON EPISODE 6 OR 7
Haha, unfortunately episode 6 and 7 were recorded a couple of days ago, so that won't be possible anymore.
episode 8?
Keep going, you'll get there eventually!
My biggest complaint about the game is that the UI in general is a bit of a massive clusterfuck of colors and shapes.

In this game it's "R".
MrSmartDonkeyLP thank you sir! :) love the stream and have watched your shogun lets plays for.. so long lol pop in the stream when i can too! Thanks for the reply and the content
Is this one worth the money or should I stick with shogun 2
While my experience so far is limited to 15 hours, I can say that my first impressions far exceed my expectations. Is there anything broken like the cheap spear formation yari ashigaru from Shogun2 Boss ? :T
Nah, no overpowered units from what I've played so far at least.
it feels like a brand new game or does it feel like a attila expansion?
I'd compare it to Fall of the Samurai. It feels like a standalone expansion with new mechanics and the like, but based on a previous game. From my little experience I'd say it surpasses Attila in every way though.
Oh boy I hope he finishes this one because he didn't finish warhammer 2 campaigns
Oh boy I finish 90% of the campaigns I start, I wish people could get over themselves.
MrSmartDonkeyLP XD
D... Did they use the same main menu theme as Mount and Blade viking conquest or was that something MrSmartDonkeyLP added in editing?
I added that in editing.
Is there a Star Trek total war?
plays thrones of britannia and suddenly everything gets royal
My enemies are about to get royally fucked.
12:42
Andrew Taylor ikr I laughed so hard 😂
Just say dyflin like you want to say dublin
Is it me or do the battles just look like TW: Arena battles rather than the quality we've come to expect? ☹️
I think that's just you to be honest.
Wait, you`re Canadian?
To my understanding old norse names's pronunciation is similar to Frisian pronunciation. So that might help you donkey.
I have never spoken a word of Frisian in my life, so I'm afraid that won't do much for me. :P
well i do know that Frisian does have some similarities to dutch but that would be lost after so long. I was just thinking you may of come from that part of the Netherlands or knew the language, but it was a vain hope. XD
I'm afraid so, but I appreciate the suggestion.
If our diamyo is to be come shogun, the military ruler of all Japan.
It's really the son of Ivar the boneless? Ivar can't have a son🤔
I think you’ve been watching too much Vikings.
I feel like Bardr is pronounced like Barður
The letters "bh" next to each other in Irish is basically pronounced as a "V" hope this helps you butcher the language as much as I do 😂
not always. in loch gabhair, the bh has a 'w' sound - at least in modern irish
That's bad mmmkay lmao
Dublin!
Total war latest game
Every intro is the same for every faction, only narrator changes and what he is saying.
There are some screens that are shared between factions, but if you watch the intro to my Strat Clut campaign you'll notice there's different screens there too.
Gonna study them when I get my copy of the game.
2 MUCH SWEARING THUMBS DOWN IS THIS GAME A TURN BASE
As much as I LOVE this part of history I will skip this one and wait for Three Kingdoms
"Rome 2 is terrible". That's rich coming from someone who's never played the game. Disliked.
Wut? I have 333 hours in the game...
God, this game is just a poor addition to the total war series
I disagree, I've loved my time with the game so far.
and how many hours have you played, paul?
