Oh yes, starting with his tribute to MJ is definitely a mistake. Singing MJ's songs means he has to stay within MJ's vocal range. You really need to hear one of his original songs to hear what he's truly capable of though. SOS has become Dimash's signature song and although other people have attempted it they don't come even close to doing it justice like he does.

In my opinion you have discovered the best singer in the world. He has perfect pitch and currently has a vocal range of 7,7 octaves (vocal fry C1 (B0) - whistle D8 off the piano). That means he hits notes in almost 8 octaves and sings consistently in 6 octaves. Not in one song (mostly😅). At least what he has shown us so far. He plays several instruments like piano, dombra (a kazach instrument), drums, marimba and more. He has classical as well as contemporary vocal training and sings in different genres from opera to pop, jazz, Kazakh folk, ballads and he even raps a bit. And often he skillfully mixes several genres in one song. And meanwhile in more than 10 languages. The latest songs (from Tokyo Jazz Festival in November 2021) are Ikanaide in Japanese and at his concert in Almaty on September 23, 2022 he sang a new song in Spanish (about 7 languages in one concert!). He sings no mainstream and is a completely independent artist. He has his own company „DimashAli Creative Center“ and is managed by his father Kanat. Maybe that’s the reason you never heard of him yet. He doesn’t sell his soul to a music label. He doesn’t want to be dictated by money when he has to sing what, when, where and how. Yes, The Story Of One Sky is something else! If you choose it next I would strongly suggest that you watch the MV first as there is a live performance of it also. One really needs to take in the whole package - music and exquisitely filmed video so the song performance makes sense. I hope you get to it. Having said that, there are many more great pieces of work that may prepare you a bit for that one. You've been dimashified! The only way to explain Dimash's singing is that he is beyond talented. His is unworldly a once in a lifetime singer. The best way I can describe the way he makes me feel is that he reaches inside you with his voice & raw emotions to actually sing & he touches your soul. I remember discovering Dimash & going down that rabbit hole he brought me to tears many, many times like no artist has ever done. Enjoy your journey with Dimash & if I could suggest one thing, please read his lyrics after listening to his songs. The lyrics of his songs are just as moving as the singing. You can't really read the captions while listening to the songs his voice will just take over & you'll miss the lyrics of the song, which are just as amazing. I’m not a fan of the MJ tribute, so glad you watched this. I highly recommend “Sinful Passion”, “Stranger”, “Ave Maria” and “Ikanaide” for starters. Then check out “ Olimpico” on Igor Krutoy’s UA-cam channel (best version IMO). After digesting those, watch “The Story of One Sky” composed by Dimash. He also wrote the screenplay and acted in it (masterfully). It’s a 13 minute mini movie masterpiece (music video).

I liked & subbed, I'll be looking forward to more Dimash reactions, as well as checking out some of your other content. The various French singers who have covered SOS sound very impressive, but would be far more so to me if I hadn't heard Dimash sing it first. They all sound like they're in falsetto on the high notes, while Dimash sounds alternately like a powerful soprano or a powerful clean metal or musical theater singer. I've never heard any other guy do it remotely like him! And as others have said in the comments, this performance is nowhere near his best, as hard to believe as that is! There are so many to choose from - others have suggested Stranger, Ave Maria, the Story of One Sky...I can wholeheartedly recommend any of those, they are beyond magnificent! But I'd like to suggest his first song in Spanish, El amor en ti - it's an original, he composed the music & the arrangement, & it has a very cool and unique visual...I don't want to give it away, but you'll see what I mean! You get to hear many of the aspects of his vocal range in such a unique way, including a very operatic approach, but in different octaves & registers. And its funny you mention MJ, Dimash is a huge fan of Michael Jackson, probably where he gets his performance theatrics from. It's ok about picking the MJ Tribute first because all his songs are different. And although his favorite genre is POP he is best doing his own genre: "Neo-classical" which is a smorgas-borgas (lol) of different styles and technique smash-ups. When you think you can pin-point what DIMASH will do next- he won't. Always inventing, experimenting and taste-testing. This also makes him nearly impossible to pigeon hole or categorize. Dimash grew up idolising MJ and he continues to be a huge influence on Dimash, particularly in live concert performances. Watch Dimash’s incredible, epic performance of his own composition El Amor En Ti (composed for his Spanish Dears) at his Almaty concert in September last year - a mind blowing production with a surprise MJesque ending. FYI Dimash was only 22 years old when he opened and won the very first episode of the I Am Singer Chinese show in 2017 with his performance of SOS. Singer (a brilliant show) was a showcase competition for well known, established, professional Chinese singers, with a voting audience of 500 people from the music industry. Dimash was the youngest and the first foreigner ever to be invited on the show (as a wildcard) and, as a total unknown in China, he wasn’t expected to last more than half the show. He astonished everyone, came second in the competition, an overnight sensation in China (600 million views of this performance) and a global phenomenon. He will turn 29 in May. Dimash is university trained in classical (bel canto) and contemporary music and has been training (voice and piano) since he was 5 years old. He has degrees in voice (classical), contemporary music, completed a Masters in composition and is completing a PhD in musicology. Thanks for giving the song history. I knew this song long before Dimash sang it. To be honest, I was kinda sick of it because it seemed like every French and Quebec singer covered it. But then Dimash sang it and gave it new life. Dimash captures the meaning and emotion of the song unlike anyone else. Now it's my favorite song.

The man who often plays the kobys in Dimash’s performances is the best on this instrument and a good friend of Dimash. His name is Olzhas Qurmanbek. Stranger is one of my absolute favorite songs. I get goosebumps every time I hear it.
He sang Stranger for the first time at New Wave in Sochi, Russia in 2021. This is an international competition for young artists, founded in 2002 by Igor Krutoy. Dimash sang here as a guest and was also a member of the jury. Igor Krutoy, like so many other masterpieces, wrote this song specifically for Dimash and his incredible vocal range.
Igor Krutoy is a famous Russian-Ukrainian composer, producer and songwriter. He came out of retirement specifically to work with Dimash when he first heard him. True masterpieces were created. He writes songs that only Dimash could sing with his vocal range (no kidding), like Olimpico, Stranger or Ave Maria. You'll often see him accompanying Dimash on the piano. If Igor Krutoy is there, the song was also written by him. The two have no contract. Their cooperation is based more on mutual trust. It's more of a father-son relationship.

Yes, The Story Of One Sky is something else! If you choose it next I would strongly suggest that you watch the MV first as there is a live performance of it also. One really needs to take in the whole package - music and exquisitely filmed video so the song performance makes sense. I hope you get to it. Having said that, there are many more great pieces of work that may prepare you a bit for that one. You've been dimashified! The only way to explain Dimash's singing is that he is beyond talented. His is unworldly a once in a lifetime singer. The best way I can describe the way he makes me feel is that he reaches inside you with his voice & raw emotions to actually sing & he touches your soul. I remember discovering Dimash & going down that rabbit hole he brought me to tears many, many times like no artist has ever done. I’m not a fan of the MJ tribute, so glad you watched this. I highly recommend “Sinful Passion”, “Stranger”, “Ave Maria” and “Ikanaide” for starters. Then check out “ Olimpico” on Igor Krutoy’s UA-cam channel (best version IMO). After digesting those, watch “The Story of One Sky” composed by Dimash. He also wrote the screenplay and acted in it (masterfully). It’s a 13 minute mini movie masterpiece (music video).

I liked & subbed, I'll be looking forward to more Dimash reactions, as well as checking out some of your other content. The various French singers who have covered SOS sound very impressive, but would be far more so to me if I hadn't heard Dimash sing it first. They all sound like they're in falsetto on the high notes, while Dimash sounds alternately like a powerful soprano or a powerful clean metal or musical theater singer. I've never heard any other guy do it remotely like him! And as others have said in the comments, this performance is nowhere near his best, as hard to believe as that is! There are so many to choose from - others have suggested Stranger, Ave Maria, the Story of One Sky...I can wholeheartedly recommend any of those, they are beyond magnificent! But I'd like to suggest his first song in Spanish, El amor en ti - it's an original, he composed the music & the arrangement, & it has a very cool and unique visual...I don't want to give it away, but you'll see what I mean! You get to hear many of the aspects of his vocal range in such a unique way, including a very operatic approach, but in different octaves & registers. And its funny you mention MJ, Dimash is a huge fan of Michael Jackson, probably where he gets his performance theatrics from. OH, MY GOD! Are you really reading the "final thoughts" from a prompter? :| That's SO disrepecfull both to the artist you listened and to your audience. If you want to react to songs and artists, don't listen to them beforehand. It doesn't matter if you struggle with words and ideas. It's better to talk from the heart than to have a script to read at the end. There's no sincere emotion, there's no sense of awe. I understood that you read at the beginning about the melody's history, but reading at the end is pathetic. I know I may have used strong words, but please consider that sometimes you need to hear strong words in order to improve. It's ok about picking the MJ Tribute first because all his songs are different. And although his favorite genre is POP he is best doing his own genre: "Neo-classical" which is a smorgas-borgas (lol) of different styles and technique smash-ups. When you think you can pin-point what DIMASH will do next- he won't. Always inventing, experimenting and taste-testing. This also makes him nearly impossible to pigeon hole or categorize. Great reaction - appreciate your research and commentary and yes, his MJ tribute wasn’t the best place to start. Dimash grew up idolising MJ and he continues to be a huge influence on Dimash, particularly in live concert performances. Watch Dimash’s incredible, epic performance of his own composition El Amor En Ti (composed for his Spanish Dears) at his Almaty concert in September last year - a mind blowing production with a surprise MJesque ending.
FYI Dimash was only 22 years old when he opened and won the very first episode of the I Am Singer Chinese show in 2017 with his performance of SOS. Singer (a brilliant show) was a showcase competition for well known, established, professional Chinese singers, with a voting audience of 500 people from the music industry. Dimash was the youngest and the first foreigner ever to be invited on the show (as a wildcard) and, as a total unknown in China, he wasn’t expected to last more than half the show. He astonished everyone, came second in the competition, an overnight sensation in China (600 million views of this performance) and a global phenomenon. He will turn 29 in May. Dimash is university trained in classical (bel canto) and contemporary music and has been training (voice and piano) since he was 5 years old. He has degrees in voice (classical), contemporary music, completed a Masters in composition and is completing a PhD in musicology. He was offered a position with Astana Opera but declined to follow a career in contemporary music, mixing classical elements and traditional Kazakh music with pop music.
