Thanks Steve for having this statue up on Citifield. Though I wasn't born during the era of Mets history, Tom Seaver already has left an impact to the team and the League. Godspeed in what you do.

@@frankrios3812 He was deGrom without the injuries. He was the best pitcher in team history. deGrom is excellent also, but these injuries have slowed him down. You have to be on the field and pitch consistently over a long period of time to achieve real greatness. Not an easy thing to do. I'm glad you got to see Seaver pitch, as I have many times. In fact, I went to Yankee Stadium in anticipation of his 300th win and he didn't disappoint. Winning his 300th game against the Yankees while a member of the White Sox. Tom Terrific, The Franchise.

Yes, remember when Ralph Kiner, Bob Murphy and Lindsey Nelson would each acknowledge the beautiful Nancy Seaver’s presence in the stands whenever her husband was pitching for the Mets at Shea Stadium?
And, speaking of the late, great Lindsey Nelson, was Met legend Mike Piazza wearing one of Lindsey Nelson’s trademark “slightly” loud sports coats at the Tom Seaver statue dedication ceremony today?

Steve is doing the best he can and I continue to be impressed by everything that he has done for this organization. For the first time since the mid 2000s, I am proud to be wear the orange and blue!

Amen, Brandon. Tom Seaver is the greatest NY Met of all time. How “”Feckless” Fred Wilpon and his arrogant and untalented son, Jeff “Shemp” Wilpon, did NOT erect a statue in honor of Tom “The Franchise” Seaver in over forty years as team owners is an absolute disgrace.
Shame on the Wilpons and good “expletive-deleted” riddance! And, it was great to see and hear the assembled Mets fans there to boo, once again, Fred and Jeff Wilpon. (Somewhere, the late, unlamented M. Donald Grant is smiling down and enjoying a sense of schadenfreude at the Wilpons’ expense.)
PS Howie Rose does not look well. I heard that he will be doing fewer Mets game this season. I hope Howie is all right.

I'm so glad to have watched this on UA-cam because I totally forgot it was on 🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️. The 1 thing that disappointed with was that we had to share this very special day!!! Nothing bad what I'm about to say but, since April 15th is Jackie Robinson day, why did whoever is in charge of special events put them on same day? When I did put the game on I did it in time for the opening day ceremonies and was totally upset that the NY METS weren't wearing his #41. For Pete's sake, since it took this long for something special like this to happen why couldn't they wait for any other day to have his special day? Dang shame 😕. LFGM 🧡💙. 💜☘

I didn’t see Tom pitch in person as I’m 50. But I do remember 1986 very well. I really wanted the Mets to sign Tom after Chicago released him. Boston snapped him up. I never heard him talk about his very brief time as a Red Sox probably because he was injured but as a kid myself at the time it would of been f’in incredible to witness a Gooden v Seaver matchup in the ‘86 series. Mets handled Clemens. Hurst was deadly. But I do wonder how a healthy Tom Seaver pitching against his beloved Mets in the World Series would of worked out. In most respects I’m glad it never came to be. I look forward to seeing the statue on Sunday. Until then my friends, LGM!!!! It’s time to win!!!!

My very first game watching the Mets was July 9, 1969. Tom's "perfect" game. My father got me interested in sports that night. I was 14 yrs old and a girl. The Mets won that year and the Knicks won later that year and I thought my teams would win all the time every year. Didn't quite work that way but I continue to root for my NY sports teams. Mets, Knicks, Giants and Rangers, even though I'm now in California

    • @kensellers4082
      @kensellers4082 2 роки тому +2

I did’t think that Fred and Jeff Wilpon, but especially the pathetic former Met COO, Jeff, a/k/a “Shemp” Wilpon, would have enough chutzpah to show up at the dedication and unveiling of the late, great Tom Seaver’s long overdue statue.
As a lifelong Mets fan, I well remember how despised the late former NY Mets Chairman of the Board M. Donald Grant was by Mets fans. Grant was the pompous and imperious curmudgeon who traded away Tom Seaver on Mrs. Joan Payson’s orders in 1977..
And, Jeff Wilpon, as a privileged dilettante, was a “worthy” successor to the much-reviled M. Donald Grant as an object of intense dislike by Mets fans.
Jeff Wilpon had no baseball experience and did not even hold an undergraduate degree, but his doting father Fred, a/k/a “”Feckless” Fred Wilpon, saw fit to put this totally unprepared tyro in as Met Chief Operating Officer.
When Fred Wilpon bought out his former Mets co-owner, the late Nelson Doubleday, Mr. Doubleday quipped, “Head for the hills, boys. ‘King Tut’ (Jeff Wilpon) is going to learn how to run a baseball team.”
Jeff Wilpon is said to have been the “architect” of the disastrous trade of Met pitching prospect Scott Kazmir for Tampa pitcher Victor Zambrano. Zambrano was SO bad on the Mets, that he was nicknamed Victor “Zamboozled” and also Victor “Zambroken.” Of course, Scott Kazmir turned out to be a solid, quality major league starter for Tampa. When NY Yankee outfielder Johnny Damon first faced the fire-balling Scott Kazmir, Johnny Damon asked, “How could the Mets have traded such a great, young pitcher?”
The Wilpons’ greatest display of hubris and gall, was when they demanded that Fred Wilpon remain as Mets Chief Executive Officer and Jeff Wilpon as Mets Chief Operating Officer for five years AFTER Steve Cohen had purchased the team from them. Jeff Wilpon supposedly wanted a pay raise from $2,400,000 to $4,000,000. Talk about unbelievable chutzpah!
Thankfully, Steve Cohen stood his ground and waited out the awful Wilpons until they agreed to his terms and they were essentially shown the Citi Field door with their $2,000,000,000 purchase fee. Good riddance!
Perhaps, the worst thing that the Wilpons did during their regrettable forty plus years as Mets team owners was to NOT build a statue in honor of Tom Seaver, the team’s greatest ball player ever, while Mr.Seaver was still alive to receive this well-deserved recognition with his wife, Nancy, and his two daughters and grandchildren.
Shame on Fred and Jeff Wilpon for being such penny-pinching and classless gavonnes.
